How To Select Bass Boat Electronics ?
Also something to think about, if you are kayak angler, is power consumption on larger units. Not something I ever had to think about prior to this year but I picked up a kayak on craigslist over the winter. Larger units, with sidescan, will require a higher capacity battery that is heavier and more expensive.

Wacky Rigged Senko. Weight Or No?
A 5” Senko is 3/8 oz by itself. I’m not sure a 1/0 hook would even register a meaningful difference on the kitchen scale I used to get my baselines (measured in grams and converted to oz).

How do you transport your canoe
I have a Native Ultimate 14.5, so a canoe/kayak hybrid. My brother is a welder so I had him make up a rack I can plug into my trailer hitch that I had been using for a bike rack. I use a Malone versarail crossbar on the car. Keeps me from needing permanent crossbars on the car and gives me a wider base to tie down to. Another positive is that the sedan’s roof is low so it is very easy to get it on and off the car top. I put one side of the kayak on the hitch rack and slide it up from behind to the crossbar on the car.

HDS7 Gen3 SD card
I believe the factory recommendation is “up to 32GB”. You should be able to confirm that in the owners manual.

Dumbness, can happen to the best of us.
My brother and I spent 3 months restoring our boat before it even saw the water for the first time. Then we did this the on the water for the maiden launch... and we realized we left the lanyard at home.

Using Lowrance HDS Gen 3 on multiple transducers
Nvm, found the answer to my question. It appears you can choose the transducer you are using in the menu which would allow for the switch back and forth.

Using Lowrance HDS Gen 3 on multiple transducers
Hi All, Over the weekend, I ordered an HDS 7 Gen 3 on sale at Cabela’s. It comes with two transducers, an 83/200 for regular sonar and an LSS 2 for down imaging and structure scan. Since I have both a kayak and a bass boat (the bass boat I share ownership with my dad and brother), I was hoping I could buy a totalscan transducer in order to rig it up to both vessels. I would put the 83/200 and LSS 2 on the bass boat and use the totalscan on the yak. Since I would need a portable battery for the yak, I would just use that battery when on the bass boat as well. Does anyone know if this unit can be switched back and forth between two different transducer setups? Thanks!

Dragging zoom trick worms on the bottom?
I caught my first bass of the year, 2 days after the ice melted, by dragging a black trick worm with a 1/16oz bullet weight. Just a little guy, but you know it’s cold when the lips are scarlet!

Durable multi-use bait caster between $100-$150
Another vote for the Tat SV. I have one in each gear ratio and they are now my go-to reel to outfit to rods as I build my arsenal. On eBay I haven't paid more than $130 for one and I got my cheapest at $115.
-
Which should be my next reel?
I bought a 7.3 tatula SV at the beginning of last season. Since then I have picked up a 6.3 and 8.1 as well. They are my go-to when I need a reel to outfit to a new rod. They can be picked up brand new on eBay for $130, sometimes even as low as $115.

Best G loomis jig rod
Most people seem to favor the 7'5" rods out the NRX lineup. For 3/8 and 1/2 ounce jigs, this would fall right into the wheelhouse of the the 894c JWR. If you are mostly dragging in open water, away from cover, you could probably get away with the 893c JWR for your weight range. The 893 is regarded as one of the best rods of all time in regards to sensitivity.

High end Rods
I just posted in the sale thread that Kistler is running a 20% off everything sale right now. I used it to grab a Helium 3 which I am psyched to try out. Details on the site. I believe the Heliums are only offered in ex-fast for their MH rods. I think the KLX would be the only way to go for a true fast action.

zillion tws spool vs tatula spool
I bought one close to MSRP when they first came out. A few months later I started seeing them brand new on eBay for around $115-$130. At that price, the bait monkey made me buy one even though I didn't have rod to put it on yet (but the bait monkey took care of that problem too). They can still be found on eBay in that price range.

Thanks for this! I broke a finesse rod at the end of the season and I was able to replace it with a St. Croix Avid X while saving almost $60 in the process (online order). I subcribed to their newsletter to get an extra 10% off of the Black Friday deal. I live in the Allentown area but I'd like to make it down to the store sometime and check this place out.

Ulterra or Terrova?
I have the Terrova and I love it. But is easy to enjoy something you are used to, especially when you have no experience with something nicer. If I had gone with the Ulterra I probably wouldn't like it any more than I currently like my Terrova, but I doubt I would ever want to take a step back to the Terrova afterwards. It would be interesting to see if anyone went with the Ulterra and wished they went with the Terrova. Those cases could be a bit more telling.

NEW BOAT question?
We run a 17.5 ft glass boat with a '93 60hp Evinrude and an 80lb thrust Terrova. We have a hydrofoil on the outboard but we haven't had a problem planing out even with the max capacity of passengers (5). That is ALOT of weight between the boat, batteries, passengers, and gear... and I have to imagine the outboard has probably lost a step or two over the years. It is certainly not a speed boat but we run mostly electric only lakes. The outboard runs comfortably at about 22-25mph and can peak 30mph when pushed with only two people.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
On a day where the bite was tough, this was the ONLY fish landed. It came on a cast where my brother rainbowed his line over a branch and this little guy jumped out of the water to grab his senko as we were trying to undo the mess. Unconventional, but kept the skunk away nonetheless!

These are the culprit for more lost lures in my local lake than all others combined. At least this guy gave me satisfaction of getting him to the boat without cutting my line!

Snap vs Loop knot
Sometimes when I am fishing a jig in extremely weedy cover I use a loop knot since the tag end points back to the lure and doesn't catch so much vegetation. I have bent out heavy duty hooks without breaking the knot.
