FG Knot
I have had the same problem with light lines breaking even with the FG knot. The only leader knot I am confident tying for leaders less than 10 lbs is the improved slim beauty knot. I actually switched to the improved slim beauty even for my leaders 10 lbs and up because it is so much easier to tie than the FG. My lure knot always breaks before the leader knot anyways, and the slim beauty is only marginally bigger than the FG. Time with lines in the water won that battle for me.

Tatula SV TW........opinions?
It is still recommended by the manufacturer to only set the spool tension enough to eliminate play. It is essentially "set it an forget it" I can echo the others comments as I have also been enjoying mine. With the brakes set up correctly you can skip docks without even thumbing it. I have yet to have a backlash other than once when I got a lure caught in tree that was behind me on the cast.

Baitcaster recommendations
+1 on this. I put a Tatula SV on a first gen tatula rod as my "all purpose" setup at the beginning of the season. I have really been enjoying it! Spool tension is "set it and forget it" and if you set the brakes right you don't even have to thumb it... Even when skipping. Perfect for a starter setup IMO.

Best Spinning Reel for under $150?
I have the procyon in the 2500 size paired with the new medium light tatula elite series finesse rod. Killer setup!

Braided line
If you are set on braid, 50 lbs is a good choice to keep the line from digging into itself as the smaller diameter braids tend to do on casting reels. However, for weightless worms, fished on slack line, you may want to consider fluorcarbon. Fluoro has great slack line sensitivity where braid is pretty dead in that aspect. Braid also floats which can affect the action of a sinking worm. You don't have to worry about that with fluoro since it is a sinking line. I like 12 lb fluoro as a decent "all around" line.

Any other riders out there?
I was out that way a few years ago and made the trip up to see Mulholland highway. You guys have some great roads out there! We have some decent roads here in PA but the riding season is shorter and the winter can be pretty harsh on our roads. A great road one year could be a hazard the next. With all of our pot holes, the saying hear in PA is that the sober people swerve and the drunks are the ones who drive straight through!

Latest Catch Pics Thread
New to LM bass fishing this year, caught my PB last night! Only 3.16 lbs, but that is the best part of targeting a new species... PBs happen more frequently up till you catch that lunker. And I'm still stoked for each of them!

Couldn't agree more about learning in the dirt. When you are used to hopping over downed trees, it's pretty easy to keep your cool for the vast majority of road obstacles. I also know what you mean with the stability these things have at speed. I bought my bike with full fairings and did the euro conversion since I like the "streetfighter" look. Prior to the conversion, 100mph was achieved every time I had it out. Now that I have the full force of the wind hitting me in the chest at speed, it helps keep me a bit better behaved!

Knots, which ones to use and why
Double pitzen for line to lure (other than crankbait) because it is my strongest knot and easy to tie. Loop knot for line to crankbait to allow free range of motion for better action. Snell knot for line to hook in order to get the hookset benefits. Slim beauty to connect braid to leader because it goes through the guides easy and is much easier for me to tie than the FG knot (and my lure knot always breaks before my connection knot so it is plenty strong).

Any other riders out there?
Those bikes are awesome! I have been looking more and more into picking up something that can handle a passenger and the BMW 1200's are right at the top of the list. I love my FZ1 for riding solo, but it is definitely not built for two and you FEEL it after about 40 miles or so. Sorry to hear about your knee and back! Beautiful bike! I'm sure the Suzuki's were great machines too. Over the years my family has had a slew of Suzuki quads and we even had an RM250 dirt bike back in our motocross days. They all ran solid!

What setups to use for what?
Straight fluoro shines in slack line sensitivity. Braid has many great characteristics but this it's biggest downfall IMO.

After getting skunked for the first 6 or 7 hours of the day, my dad and my brother and I caught all these guys in about an hour before the bite shut off again. Never know what the day will turn into!

Floro on a baitcaster - want to give it another try
I have a similar setup and use 12# Tatsu. I also didn't like braid with a leader on this rig because the braid would not stay tight when reeling in slack line using worms. Then it would dig into itself on the drag and cause problems. I put some line conditioner on during my last cast of the day each time I am out and do not have any issues with memory or manageability. I have heard this is not necessary with Tatsu but when spending $35-$40 for 150yd spool, a few sprays of KVD is cheap and gives me peace of mind.

What casting rod/reel for teenage girl
I can personally vouch that the new Tatula SV casting reels are fantastic. They are very light and very difficult to backlash. The setup is also very simple as spool tension does not need to be adjusted everytime a lure is changed. It is pretty much a "set it once and done" deal. You can also set the brakes so you don't even have to thumb it when the lure hits the water. I notice you will lose slight casting distance when doing this but it would a be perfect reel to learn on. I have really been liking mine!

Any CZ fans?
CZ had a really nice .17HMR out a few years ago that I almost picked up. Ended up going with Anschutz instead because the CZ was brand new and not proven yet. After it had been out a few months I read some range reports that it was holding groups of 1/2 MOA at 100 yards. Can't go wrong with that kind of accuracy! I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up now.

How many hunters and what kind do you hunt?
I hunt north central PA for deer, small game, and varmints. I stick to family owned property that has mixed areas of cover that the deer and small game like to bed down in. But there are also valleys that open up possibilities for 500+ yard shots which is great for the varmints. I use a mix of 7mm08, .44 Magnum revolver, .22LR, or 12 gauge shotgun depending on the situation.

Braid vs fluoro, what would you use, what's your opinion/experiences
It seems like most people here favor the crazy Alberto (Albright) or FG Knot if you have the patience to learn the FG. My favorite braid to fluoro connector is not quite so popular here but I like the slim beauty. I can tie it much faster and it actually holds much better for me than the FG when I tie on light line (likely user error when trying the FG). It may not be as strong as the Albright or FG, but when I get snagged my lure knot always fails before my leader knot so it is plenty strong for me! Plus I like that it is similar to an FG in that the tag end points backward so it goes through the guides very easily when casting.

Mines pretty self explanatory - I'm a physician's assistant, I play bass guitar, and my birthday is 9-27... And the only part of that statement that is true is my birthday

Braid vs fluoro, what would you use, what's your opinion/experiences
I would think it difficult to cast a weightless senko on a rod rated up to 4 oz. I would also run heavy braid with heavy fluoro leader as that rod sounds like it has the power to snap light line pretty easily. Especially on a frogging hookset. On my "do all" rod I use 12lb clear fluoro. Though my rod is a MH rated at 1/4 to 1 oz and I rarely throw anything over 3/4 on it.

Line Color: Which Is Best, Or Does It Matter?
With fluoro or mono line, I go clear. Braid tied directly I use moss green. Braid with a leader I go with hi vis yellow braid and clear leader. If I could only use one I'd probably use a clear fluorocarbon.

Upgrading all my rods
I am really liking the tatulas as well. I have one of the original bass rods that I use as a "do everything" rod while I build up my collection. I also just picked up an elite model for finesse. They both fish above their price range, IMO. Considering you can pick up the originals for about $100, I will probably look back to them for my next rod when I pick up something beefier for fishing jigs.

bait cast reels
I'm righty and use a left handed baitcaster. I actually used to use a right handed retrieve on my spinning reel until I got my baitcaster and didn't like the idea of switching hands after the bait hits the water (due to thumbing). On the spinning setup it was easy enough to switch hands while the lure was in the air. Now that I trained my dumb hand to crank, I changed my spinning setup to left hand retrieve because I can work the bait much better with my dominant hand.
