  1. Gloomis E6X 7'4" Med Hvy 884C SWBR, rated 1/2 -2 oz. Moderate graphite rod, works great for 110 and 130 size ploppers both. 60 lb braid, cinch your drag down and boat flip every one. Long enough to cast far but moderate fast lets the fish engulf it and roll cast around cover easily. Most of the fish I catch are both hooks across the face. Good luck!
  2. This statement is laughable. Alpha works with Brad Loomis and NFC to develop their blanks, so how are they not comparable? If not superior? I don't believe Gary Loomis is involved much with G Loomis blank production anymore after the Shimano sale years ago. I'm not going to comment on the mass produced Shimano.. I guarantee they buy plenty of blanks off others, especially in their lower ranges. Apples to Oranges. I'm a huge G Loomis fan. I used to have a quite a few IMX/GLX and several E6X and GL2 rods, they are nice rods. For me personally, I found the same quality as a GLX with AA for a more reduced price. G. Loomis prices continue to escalate and for me, AA was a much better buy than my $300+ IMX/GLX rods. That being said, the new GLX series are sweet. I bought 9 rods last year alone and likely getting 1-2 more this fall so spending $400 on a new Loomis every time is out of the question. For comparison, my AA rods "smoke" all of my IMX rods that are around $75-$100 more. They would be comparable to the newer GLX series in sensitivity. But for the $$, AA is a better buy. No, they are a direct to consumer company. Great return policy if you don't like the rod though, up to you.
  3. Abu Garcia Villain 2.0 can be had for $150. I have two of their 6'10" ML spinning rods and they are perfect Ned rods.
  4. BAHAHA really? Have you ever used one? That's funny because most Alpha Angler rods use blanks from Brad Loomis or Gary's NFC. Most guys I know who own them came from Loomis rods. Myself included. I don't know anyone who's gone the other way.. As far as warranty goes, perhaps the immediate warranty or Expetitor program on paper but I guarantee you will have much better luck dealing with Alpha Angler customer service, through Jake or their GM. They will do their best to help you out, if you ever (or can) break one of their rods.
  5. I'm going to ask.. why 6 lb? Unless you're dropshotting in high pressure ultra-clear lakes out west, 8 lb would be just fine for 90% of finesse (drop shot, ned) fishing. That being said, If you have to use 6 lb I'd use Seaguar Tatsu. The other seaguar flouros are fine in 6, 8 lb also - Invizx or Blue label as another has mentioned. If you're only using for leader only, I'd just get Blue Label (25 yds) for $12 or Sunline FC Leader $10 / 50yd spool.. It honestly doesn't matter too much in those smaller sizes, all flouros handle well in that range. I'm currently using the FC leader but both work well.
  6. Wow, great find. Nice boat. I'm predicting 105 MPH with the 300 HP on there! I know a Bullet 21XD with that same motor than ran 102 MPH.
  7. Having been a die hard shimano fan, i've just bought two Revo SX reels after looking at shimanos subpar product offering this year. (New chronarch is a joke for the price.. I know same as old Curado). Just spooled them up, going to give them a go this weekend!
  8. For some reason, certain motors have more interference than others but for starters, I would do the following: - Put a 1" or so wide strip of rubber all the way around the lower unit of the TM in between the metal strap and the motor. - Make sure your trolling motor batteries do not have anything else connected to them (fishfinders, bilge pumps, etc) If you're still having trouble, set the noise rejection up from none or low to medium on your fishfinder (eagle, lowrance). Depends on the humminbird model ff, some you may not have this option. I have an eagle 480 setup on a minn kota 65 lb with no problems. Good luck.
  9. Thats interesting. This coming year will be my 3rd year fishing BFL and I think its one of the best run/organized tournaments for the entry level tournament angler. Just look at any BASS weekend series entry counts compared to BFL, they're always quite a bit less, at least in missouri! It seems more and more anglers are putting their money to FLW, for good reasons too. I'm not saying I hate BASS, I love keeping up with the elite series, but they don't have near the payouts the FLW tour does..
  10. Better try at least one of each to make sure.
  11. Exactly. If you're talking about the original 76 series than save your money, the memory is limited and it comes with a serial cable for data transfer. I don't think my computer even has one of those ports. That unit came out in '99. The 76Cx/CSx are totally different animals and much more $$ as well. I have been selling these units for 3+ years, there is no better gps unit than lowrance for fishing.
  12. check out the co-angler clinic on flw outdoors website. Very informative and helped me a lot when first getting into BFLs 2 years ago.
  13. #1 definitely - bubble gum seed. ;D
  14. I like the 480, I've gone over standing timber and picked up cedar trees plain as day around 20 or so ft. It picks up fish very well and the arches are fairly easy to identify. If you're looking for deep water brush piles, ie 50 -70 ft, I would look at the X135 or at least the X125. I'm mostly a shallow(er) water fisherman so it works fine for me. side note: I've never had a problem with it losing my settings or anything. Everytime it comes on it resumes the last setting i've had it on..
  15. Lowrance 1240A in dash flasher and a Eagle fishmark 480 on the bow.
  16. We'll get ya set up there george The merc starts up every time no probs, but lately it hasn't been wanting to idle at low rpms, believe the carb has become a bit clogged, will take into the shop for spring tune up and go from there..
  17. Where in STL? Btw, isn't there a BPS in mills?
  18. Hows yall like this redneck bass rig? Lol, found this couldn't resist. Real boat: '96 champion 186 DCX Elite w/ '00 merc 150 XR6. By far one of the smoothest riding boats on the water.
  19. Actually Map Create 6 only comes with the larger units and the bassmaster combo. It doesn't come with either the 332C or the LMS-480, both GPS/Fishfinder units. If you're looking for a fishfinder for the console, get a gps. If you're thinking about putting it up on the deck, check out either the X102C or the X135. I don't think color is necessary and the X135 is a more powerful unit (4000 watts as opposed to only 2,400). You can see a maribou crappie jig in 30 feet with a X135 ($399).
  20. They have, its called www.***.com ;D ;D If you're looking for a good thicker tube, I prefer chompers ultra tube. Excellent tube, tons of flavor! :-* When I want a thinner tube, I go to zoom.
  21. sounds like a faded out screen. Common problem for humminbird fishfinders. In one phrase - SOL. Time to look for a new one. For $299, you can get an excellent unit a Lowrance X125. Or a X135 for $399.
  22. Minn Kota Maxxum or Motorguide Tour Digital. Quieter running, more efficient, longer running motor. Two companies version of a similar concept.
  23. Yeah, don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to belittle him or anything, he's a great fisherman and a great guy from what I hear. But was just curious... I believe he's orig. from hawaii. Yeah Flyrod, admiral/general, what the hell. Haven't looked at them history books in a while! ;D
  24. Don't remember where I've heard this but want to know if there was any truth to this.. Is gary yamamoto the grandson of Gen. Yamamoto who planned/commanded the attack on pearl harbor? Any relation there?
  25. Which humminbird do you have? The more basic ones cannot turn off fish ID.
