  1. I bought a 783. Great rod. Then I bought an 843. Great rod. Then I bought an 844. Great rod. I love them all and use them every trip for everything from spinnerbaits - my favorite - to chatterbaits, crankbaits, jigs and worms. I have other rods, but enjoy the Conquests. I would suggest buying the 843, it's only 6 inches longer than a 783. A dollar bill is 6.125"
  2. "That would work if ‘harvesting fish’ and ‘catching fish’ were one and the same thing to you " Oh jeez. You know, a fish on the hook. A fish in the boat or on the bank or lipped in your hand. We could split hairs here, but I don't think too many fish around here have hairs.
  3. "You go fishing to catch fish." If all I wanted was a fish, I'd go to the fish market.
  4. "The reel was awesome. It is slightly better than the new Zillion. Is it $150 more better? As usual, probably not but it can cast further than any of the Daiwa reels I have used." Thanks for the great review. Now I need to decide what to do. My favorite reels are 2 of the Steez SV TW and 2 Metanium MGL that I put brass gears in. Do I need another reel? Sure, if it will cast farther. Decisions, decisions. I wonder, what would a 2023 Steez feature?
  5. "We will see how it performs when spring comes." Could you try it today, while I'm at lunch, so I can order a couple of Steez A2's while they have lefthanded ones in stock? And while my wife is out of the house?
  6. Still driving my '16 4Runner Trail Premium w/KDSS front suspension option. It's a great beach buggy too.
  7. I've never thrown a rod, but I've seen it done a few times. A guy I still fish with and meet for lunch weekly tossed a bass rod in and immediately dove after it. He got it. ____________________ The best story. About 40 years ago a bunch of us were on the Virginia Beach pier fishing off the end for big fish with live spot, etc. You catch small bait using a bottom rig. Then you hook the live bait onto a second medium rig, and clip that onto the anchor line of the heavy third rig that you leave out with a 6- or 8-oz sinker. Anyway, some people just use a 4500-size spinning reel to underhand cast the live spot and don't bother with the trolley line and clip. Imagine the end of the pier shoulder to shoulder on a beautiful day. Everyone working together to minimize tangles, but the fishing was slow. This old retired guy - younger than I am now - put a spot on his line and used an underhand cast to toss it out quite a ways. Yep, he threw the rod and reel out with it. You could hear the group intake of breath, but nobody laughed. He got this look on his face and we waited for his reaction. Then a woman's calm voice came from the bench behind us. "That's the second time you've done that this weekend." We all cracked up. A supervisor from Newport News Shipbuilding tied on a 3- or 4-ounce Hopkins lure with an oversized treble hook and eventually snagged the line and retrieved the guy's rig.
  8. Every spool or pic of a spool I've seen says "material from Germany", which isn't the same as made in Germany. Okay, I just now found a closeup pic of a blue box of Kovert and it says manufactured in Germany. Who knows. It's not like I don't have most of 3 1000-yard spools of Tatsu left.
  9. Oh, and my 2nd and 3rd Fenwick Elite Inshore rods are here and undamaged from Pure Fishing. I ordered them Thursday and wouldn't have been surprised to see them after Christmas. They were in individual boxes, each with the L-insert, and the two boxes were strapped together with 4 straps. I haven't tried the new 7' MF and ML-F yet, but they are downright dainty and properly scaled down compared to the first one, a 7' HF. I think I'm going to enjoy all of them a lot.
  10. I don't have my line yet, but I already have a "Welcome to the Family" email from KastKing. It's an inexpensive way for a company to build a mailing list and only get people who have proven themselves to be the kind of people who will spend a buck on fishing gear.
  11. I had repeated problems editing my cart during my last order. It would edit the cart, but when I went to checkout it hadn't changed. Exiting and signing back in worked finally.
  12. "I'm sure we have massively depleted the pure fishing inventory" Six of the 10 Fenwick Elite Inshore Spinning rods were available today when my order was confirmed at 2:45 p.m. I just pulled the site up to show my wife what I'd ordered and every single one is now marked OUT OF STOCK.
  13. "I received all of my purefishing orders." I haven't. I like the new Fenwick Elite inshore 7' HF spinning rod so much I just now ordered 2 more - a 7' medium and a 7' medium light. I was really impressed with the HF - rated 3/4 oz to 3 oz. It just feels good. I put an old Sustain 4000FE on it spooled with 10# Spyderwire Invisibraid and tied on a 2-oz bank sinker. Using a lazy two-handed sidearm cast I put it in the woods. The tape measure said 42 yards. That'll do for a half-hearted cast. Less than half-hearted. Okay, they aren't as nice as any of my Conquests, but they are still very good rods with full cork.
  14. The bait monkey has friends, so be careful. You can't win.
  15. I tried it on 4 Berkley Warpigs about 20 minutes ago and it took the price from $36 down to $13 and change. I didn't buy them, I was just checking. Buy 3 get one free and then the BELK50 code. I'm still shopping.
  16. My Tuesday orders from Pure Fishing arrived an hour ago. The original tracking info said next Tuesday for both of them, then they both changed on UPS to before 9 p.m. tonight. Noon works for me. The Fenwick Elite Inshore 7' HF spinning rod looks great and is reasonably dainty - for a 3/4 to 3 oz saltwater rod. And no leaks in the box of Gulp and Gulp Alive saltwater baits. The rod came in a box, but inside it was zip tied to a full-length L-shaped piece of high tech, high density, synthetic looking cardboard of some sort. (I know tubes can be broken in half by the freight companies, one of them broke a heavy cardboard tube into 2 separate pieces a few years ago, but did NOT break the Conquest 844C inside. The tackle shop told me that the freight companies look upon plastic pipe tubes as a real challenge to their ability to mangle things. If they get sideways on the conveyors they can break anything it appears without having to drive over them with a forklift or truck.)
  17. I'd guess they have a small crew and the folks who know how to make baits, well, they all work on making baits. Someone who doesn't know how to make baits, prints labels. Could be a part-timer or a volunteer neighbor or relative, or even a kid home from college for Christmas, etc. If the crew has to finish the bait making before they start to print a couple of hundred labels - or a thousand? - it's just going to take that much longer to pack it all up and ship it.
  18. Just what I need for the beach to cover some of the gap between my MH & H bass rods and my 9-, 10- & 11-foot surf rods, a Fenwick Elite Inshore Spinning rod, 7' H, 3/4 to 3 oz. lures. Full cork too, and half price is nice.
  19. "Can anyone say flat worms at 50% off? hahaha" I can say saltwater soft bait by the bag and jar. I never seem to have enough fresh shrimp, mullet or squid, especially when the surf is rough, and like to have some soft stuff in reserve. I can always get Fishbites at $7 or $8/bag, but this is so much better. Thanks.
  20. "It's very cringy to me when videos end that way." The ones that really irk me are the ones that ask for all the button clicking first, before they even start their content. And then they ask/remind again at the end.
  21. Fwiw, because I have one and have the specs handy. STRIKER™ Vivid 9sv With GT52HW-TM Transducer POWER INPUT 12 to 20 Vdc TYPICAL CURRENT DRAW 0.75 A MAX CURRENT DRAW 1.5 A POWER CONSUMPTION 9.0
  22. That sign is so old I googled the guy's name for the heck of it. Jeff Engel was NC State Health Director from 2009 to 2012.
  23. "Are most BR members adverse to swimbaits on a spinnerbait? I am certainly not and I have friends who aren't. I prefer 3" to 6" grubs, but use swimbaits maybe 30% of the time. And I usually fish 3/8 oz spinnerbaits. And chatterbaits, too.
  24. Magazines? I miss the days when they were free to read at the barbershop and the dentist and you could hang out and read them after you finished your business.
  25. A clicking drag? No thank you. Seriously? They put a clicker on it?
