  1. So as season approaches I’m selling off one of my 2 piece spinning rods to a buddy and purchasing a new 1 piece. Still up in the air on which one but looking at possibly the nrx 872s, legend elite 7’ medium fast, or try one of the megabass Rods. I’m looking for a more universal rod, but primarily will be throwing small tubes, weightless senko’s, maybe some flukes or ned rig. I picked up the glx 822s dsr early December I would guess which covers my drop shot, and have a glx 852c for some of the heavier finesse stuff (finesse jig, light weighted t-rigs, shakey head, neko rig. but I stumbled across a couple good deals on higher end reels. I was going to go with another stradic ci4+ as I love the one I currently have but came across a brand new sustain hgfi for the same price as the stradic and an exsence for a great price but still pretty hefty. What’s your thoughts on these two reels over the ci4+? Worth the upgrade? 20 dollars difference for the sustain, and 125-150 more for the exsence which I believe is roughly 125-200 off regular price (super hard to find in Canada to compare prices)
  2. I’m kind of looking for a more all purpose spinning set up at the moment. I’m pretty covered in the casting rods for now. Mostly I just want to try an expride lol I have a glx 822s dsr for dropshot and Ned rig, but looking for something for tubes, weightless senko’s, flukes and such.
  3. Out of curiosity, between the expride and the Megabass which do you prefer. I hear unbelievable things regarding the expride. Fishing’s like a much more expensive rod then it is.
  4. I just didn’t realize it I guess. I never had a true frog set up and when I was shopping last year I wasn’t lookin so much at the lure rating as I was for feel and opinions. When I purchased the 884c twfr I picked up multiple frogs in the 5/8-3/4oz weights. When I was struggling to get hook ups I went out and bought 4-5 different brands, in 2-3 different colours and one was the 1/2oz jackall keara. At time of purchase I noticed it was small and was thinking maybe it could help. It has quickly become my favorite frog, soft, increadibly sharp and durable. I haven’t had a single issue on the 1/2oz frogs so i never realized the lighter frogs were issues for most rods.
  5. It’s crazy to see how many people have a problem throwing a 1/2oz frog. I never thought of it before cause up until last year I always threw a 5/8 or heavier. But this year I started fishing the loomis imx pro 884 twfr (top water frog rod) rated for 3/8-3/4oz which is there lighter frog rod and it bombs those 1/2oz frogs and is perfect rod! Balance is great, still a heavy power rod so loads of back bone, light to be able to fish all day without getting tired! My favorite frog has become the 1/2oz jackal karea frog. My hook up ratio’s have gone way up since I started fishing that frog
  6. The nrx from the e6x is a huge difference. I fish the glx series and it is leagues above the e6x. I’ve handled the nrx but ever fished and they are nice and will most likely be the next rod. They are a step above the glx so miles in front of the e6x
  7. I have a dobyns Sierra, 2 different st. Croix avid x’s and 2 different loomis e6x’s and they are all very similar. I would say my loomis spinning rod is more sensitive then my avid x spinning rod ( 6’6 medium fast vs 7’ medium fast) and the casting rods are all very close. I would probably have to say my dobyns is best balanced followed by the e6x then the avid x. The e6x and avid x I would say might be slightly ever so slightly more sensitive but it’s really close.
  8. I love my 7’4” heavy fast action rod! Plenty of power to wrench the big bass from logs and slop, yet the tip is soft enough to send a small 1/2oz jackal frog further then Ive ever been able to throw any frog before. Paired with a 7.1:1 gear ratio, plenty of speed to pick up the slack when walking the frog with short motion of the handle, and to be able to really pick up the slack quick to be able to pull the fish towards before it gets buried back in where it came from!! I wouldn’t go with any slower of a reel. Was debating on trying the 8.1:1 shimano bantam mgl this season on it!
  9. I’m in the midst of filling the same thing you are in my arsenal. Right now I have a 2 piece st. Croix avid x with a nasci on it as my universal spinning set up but I would now like a good 1 piece and I’m selling the 2 piece. From the information ive gathered I’m lookin at a 7’-7’4” medium fast or extra fast action. The 7’ fast action is probably the most universal and would do better for top water and jerks, where the 7’4-7’6 medium fast or extra fast would do better for tubes, neko rigs, deeper water!
  10. I have both the reels your looking at. Bought them new near the same time. The daiwa was a little easier to set up. The curado feels more refined and a bit smoother. The curado definately casts further, the tatula is a bit better in wind. When trying to learn to skip I actually found the curado easier for whatever reason, must of just got lucky. After fishing both back and forth trying them on frogs, jigs, chatterbaits, senko’s, t-rigs I prefer the curado K a lot more over the tatula. I ended up purchasing 3 chronarch mgl’s because I enjoyed the curado so much! The loomis glx’s are awesome Rods, and own 3 of them as well! You’ll love them
  11. Awesome thanks! i can’t wait to try this rod out!!
  12. Nobody uses this rod for anything else other then dropshot?
  13. Perfect! Well I would like one more set up and figured I should get between 7’ and 7’6”. I figured the 822 dsr would take care of drop shots and hopefully ned rigs, my 852c will cover shakey heads, small soft jerkbaits and maybe try spybaits. I’m thinking the 7’-7’6” for tubes, wacky worms and such in the deeper water.
  14. The rod felt great! Don’t get me wrong just felt a little tip heavy to me. Now I was bouncing back and forth so much between Rods I could possibly be mistaken it for something else. I would like a second spinning rod to cover the remaining of my spinning tackle/techniques. And I’m debatjng between a 7’ or something a smidge longer 7’4 range. What do you like to throw on that particular rod?
  15. Thank you! Awesome! That’s what I was going start with and see how I make out and go from there.
  16. Have fished this knot personally but it’s a super easy not to tie as I’ve tied it a few times and keeps the perfect everytime and any situation. Not that the Palomar is hard just can be sometimes a pain in the wind getting the loop through.
  17. Well here it is fella’s, glx 822s dsr, shimano ci4+ 2500 with 10lbs power pro to 8lbs Seaguar leader Thank you everyone for your help! Can’t wait to try it out this spring! Now just have to figure 1 more rod to cover the remaining of the finesse unless my 852c will take care of it. Tubes, flukes, senko’s, Ned, Neko so forth
  18. Well here it is fella’s, glx 822s dsr, shimano ci4+ 2500 with 10lbs power pro to 8lbs Seaguar leader Thank you everyone for your help! Can’t wait to try it out this spring! 19. I have all mine set the same. 2 brakes on internal and between 1.5-3 on the external dial and go. The only time I touch that is when I cast on super windy days, I will just adjust the external dial up a little but inside always stays at 2.
  20. Thanks everyone. Found the glx 822 at a good price and going to look st it tomorrow morning with expectations of purchasing the rod! Hopefully it will fish the Ned rig well too cause I’d love to double down on this rod for those two techniques
  21. Quick question for you guys that fish this rod. I just picked up this rod this morning and I’m wondering What other baits/techniques have you thrown on it with good success other then the dropshot? Would love go maybe double down for a few stuff like the ned rig maybe as the rod has a nice soft tip. Would be great the double down on a few different techniques and then get 1 other finesse rod to cover the rest
  22. Thanks everyone I think I have settled on the glx 822s dsr. I’m suppose to be swinging close by the store tomorrow afternoon or Monday afternoon so I’ll most likely grab it then.
  23. Yes I have. I feel that the loomis rods are a little underrated as far as lure weight goes for each particular rod. Also find them slightly lighter and better balanced in general. I feel the st.croix blanks generally are on the stronger side and heavier compared to there ratings. So a medium from st. Croix tends to feel like a heavy medium or a lighter medium-heavy. But I also don’t fish st. Croix and only have 1 rod for myself and 3 of there rods I fish on a fairly regular
  24. For 99 dollars that’s sounds like a good price. I only throw jigs from 1/2oz and less so that wouldn’t bother me so much plus seems like most of the loomis Rods I own can throw a little more then rated for!
  25. Thanks, went out today to see if I could get my hands on them but didn’t have all the luck. I was able to handle the 6’10 medium light legend Xtreme and a 6’8 legend elite, and 7’ legend elite next too the imx pro 822 dsr, glx 892, glx 802 and glx 803. I really wish they had the glx 822 and the 6’10 legend elite cause I hated the handle on the legend Xtreme but the stick felt good, the 7’ legend elite was the right action and tip heavy a little, 6’8 felt like it would make a great little jerkbait rod. and the imx pro 822 felt great and so did the glx 802 so I imagine the glx 822 would feel great as well.
