  1. Cating to me is swim jigs and dragging football jigs along the bottom. . All other jigs are usually thrown into cover with heavier line. Speaking of dragging football jigs, most of our waters have zebra mussels. Sniper seems to hold up to that abuse a little better than most other lines. A couple years ago I tried berkley vanish around the mussels. It instantly became apparent why it was called vanish. It does not take long for your baits and any fish you hook to vanish with that line.
  2. 14 pound for casting . 18 pound for pitching into cover. I look at the line diameter more than the pound test. Sniper is a small dameter line compared to most others. It has great knot strength. it is also very durable for its size and has limited stretch. The draw back is the cost. 18 lb sniper is .0138 inches in diameter. 12 lb berkley fluorocarbon is .013 12 pound yozuri hybrid is .013 12 pound berkley big game is .014 14 lb sniper is .012 inches in diameter 10lb berkley 100% fluorocarbon is .012 10lb yozuri hybrid is .012 10lb berkley big game is .012 A lot of people overlook the diameter of some lines.
  3. I only use fluorocarbon on baitcasters. then it is sunline sniper or assasin.
  4. I have been fishing super flukes and sluggos for 30 years. they balance fine on light wire hooks. They will slowly sink. If you are using a heavy hook they are not floating. They sink like a rock. If I am fishing shallow I will use the fine wire hook. If I want to get down deeper i will use a weighted hook or a heavy hook, but you have to adjust your tackle accordingly. If I want to get 10 feet or deeper I will put it on a mojo rig. I would never use a superline hook on a medium action spinning setup. I would also not use a fine wire hook on a flipping stick with heavy line. In regards to baitcasters not being able to cast the fluke very far. I use a Diawa Tatula SV. it will sling a super fluke with a fine wire hook a long way, with 14 pound sunline sniper. Even in the wind. One other thing to consider is if you use heavier line it will affect the action of a fluke. Lastly. If your tackle is not balanced you will lose fish!!!! Really is no way around it.
  5. I buy a lot of tackle this time of year during sales. I have it organized, butI have not even attempted to count it. my storage under the boat deck is full and I probably have that much or more in storage at the house.
  6. ^^^this. size or type of bait does not matter much when there are no big fish in your area. My 2 largest bass were caught on average sized baits, but in a lake known to have big fish. one was on a super fluke, the other was on a 110 size jerkbait.
  7. i use a medium power extra fast action baitcaster for soft jerkbaits. usually filled with 14 pound fluorocarbon. I have also landed multiple 7 pound plus bass on a spinning setup with 8 pound mono or copoly. I am curious, on how you keep breaking off with 12 pound line. Bass are not strong fighters compared to other species. Possible knot issues? I am anal about constantly checking the line and the knot. I have had Fish spit the lure, but I can't recall the last big fish that broke off. Even fishing around zebra mussels, wood, or weeds.
  8. I would have to agree. Never been tazed or sprayed, but as a former electrician I was hit with 480 volts that knocked me on my butt. I also had a ceiling fan blow cayenne in my face. If I had to choose between the two, I would take the electricity.
  9. There are plenty of asian carp in the missouri river and all of its tributaries. the only thing keeping them out of the local reservoirs are the dams. I am curious on how you plan to reduce their numbers. Don't know of any current projects that have put a dent in the asian carp population.
  10. thanks to power plant lakes here in Kansas the season never ends. usually fish once a week in january and february. starting in march, the other lakes start warming. after that I spend a lot more time on the water.
  11. With a $300.00 budget I would find two Tatula sv`s on sale. I currently own 3 of them. I have diawa's, shimano's, and Lew's in my baitcaster arsenal. The Tatula sv reels are by far my favorite and most versatile.
  12. The zero sensitivity is simply not true. It is true, on a tightline braid is more sensitive than mono or fluorocarbon. On a slack or semi slack line braid has the zero sensitivity. In this instance fluoro is best, mono second, braid is a distant third. On most vertical baits. Jigs, Texas rig, wacky rig, etc. The line is often partially slack as the bait falls.
  13. Use a dime or a penny. The illustration in the user manual shows using a coin. I own several tatulas and have always used a coin.
  14. I have a neighbor that swears a kid died from multiple water mocassin bites at the local lake. He does not know who it was or when it happened. Sounds like an urban legend to me. According to the Kansas wildlife department there are no water mocassins in Kansas. May be a little off topic , but one animal that is fairly new to the area is Armadillos. Just a few years ago, If someone would have told me they live in eastern Kansas, I would have laughed at them. I have seen them multiple times in the last year.
  15. ^^ this. I have a couple live target crankbaits. they looked awesome in the store. they are great at catching fishermen. they suck at catching fish.
  16. There are a few restaraunts in KC that make a decent Boudin. In my opinion the best boudin comes from the road side stands in lousiana. Eating it from a sit down midwestern restaraunt just isn't the same..
  17. I am surprised @Catt hasn't responded to this one. I am sure he could tell you all about boudin.
  18. Tatula sv. It is my favorite baitcaster. Also probably one of the best reels for skipping baits.
  19. Talk to your local dnr. Most states do shocking surveys to determine health of the lakes. Can`t tell by a picture of the lake. There are a lot of things involved. Forage base, fishing pressure, water quality etc. Are all a big part of how big a bass can get. Here in Kansas the department of wildlife puts out a bass forecast every year based on their shocking surveys. In general it is a good indication of what is happening in each lake. Not surprisingly the lake that produces the majority of bass over 5 lbs for me, consistently ranks number 1 or 2 in the state.
  20. spinnerbaits used to be one of my go to lures. Anymore they are situational baits. Mainly a search bait in stained to murky water. Also use them in summer to slow roll along deeper weedlines. Lately I have been fishing them super shallow, during the wnter, on the local power plant lake.
  21. You posted right before I did What type of line are you using? A 4 carrier braid like power pro original is noisier than an 8 carrier braid like power pro slick 8. I prefer the original power pro. It is a little more manageable in my opinion. The minimal noise doesn't bother me. If you were using 50 pound braid on a spinning reel, that was a little overkill. I am sure it was a little noisy. Ppersonally 10 pound is a little light for my taste. The small diameter is prone to wind knots. I use 15-20 pound on my spinning reels.
  22. Side imaging, gps mapping and spotlock has simplified bass fishing a lot for me. I am not sure it has made me a better angler, but these modern electronics sure makes finding and staying on areas a lot easier.
  23. I think the type of lake determines where the fish go after a weed kill. One water supply lake I used to fish was sprayed every summer for weeds. there was no other cover in the lake. When that happened Bass would stack up on rip rap jettys and the dam. My home lake has curly pondweed that attracts bass in late spring and early summer. It dies off every year later in the summer. After that the Bass go deeper and hang out in the coontail.
