  1. while I love my Ultrex, they are ridiculously priced. Only reason It is on my new boat, is it was either power poles or the Ultrex. With my style of fishing the Ultrex made more sense. I would suggest not buying a first generation Ultrex. there has been a few issues with them. I just had a defective position sensor and broken cable replaced. when the sensor went out the motor did not know where it was, and broke the cable in the process. it was under warranty, but still put the boat out of commission for a week waiting for parts. supposedly the new sensor is more robust. couldn't run with the remote very well, because it didn't know where it was, and would just keep spinning. there was no over travel stop.
  2. That sucks, but doesn't really surprise me.
  3. actually I did. Growing up my grandfather owned a farm in southern Iowa, with seven excellent ponds. My cousin and I were the only 2 people allowed to fish them and yes the fish grew big and were not difficult to catch. I still don't believe Bass are smart. They live on instinct. they will learn what is food and what is not. they will also learn what to avoid to survive. If they didn't there would be no big fish. This is no different from any other animal. I still think Bass are magnificent creatures. That is why I spend nearly all of my free time chasing them.
  4. power trim would make the Ultrex nearly perfect. With everything they added to the ultrex and it still has the cheesy compression knob of the original power drives to adjust motor height.
  5. I own an Ultrex. It is a power assisted cable drive. depending on how you look at it. either the best or worst of both worlds. I am not calling anyone stupid for their decision. the pedal on a true power drive did not work for me. I simply could not drive it well.
  6. I must be lucky to live where I do. there are several good places to bass fish within an hour of my house. I have trouble understanding the secret hole mentality. I don't fish just one spot on any lake. the Smallest lake I fish is 400 acres. a normal day on that little lake, there are at least 3 dozen different spots I fish. if someone Is having trouble catching fish, I have no problem showing one to them and to look for similar areas around the lake. hopefully if I am having a bad day, someone will do the same.
  7. My last boat had a power drive when I bought it. After one trip and running into several trees and a dock, I put a cable drive on the boat. Some people like them, but I am used to a cable drive and drive the boat by feel. You have to constantly look at where the motor is pointed on a power drive.
  8. that little pond shocked me. Figured it was fished out, considering the location. I was standing 100 yards from the Renaissance festival. If you do want to fish it, you need the Wyandotte county fishing permit. the permit also gets you access to Wyandotte county lake. Doubt I would buy the Permit, just to fish that pond. $50.00 fine if you get caught fishing withuout it.
  9. Spent a couple hours at bonner lake or pond. right behind the Renaissance festival. while my boat was in the shop again . I Had the same situation. Ended up using a 1/16 oz head and 1/2 a zinkerz (ned rig) And cranked just fast enough to stay above the weeds. Caught 15 bass in 1 hour on that little pond. One was 15 inches, lost another nice one in the weeds.
  10. Would always rather stay on the good side of karma
  11. welcome. hope this forum helps. I have learned a lot since I joined.
  12. Fish are not intelligent. I think the sentence above says it all. A hard to access area does not get fished. chances are most the big fish from the rest of the lake have been harvested.

    welcome
  14. I broke off several nice fish in the last month for no apparent reason. it was not at the knot. I got very frustrated. so I went back to mono for now. since then have not lost any fish to breakage.
  15. I think the coldest night we had was 49 degrees, otherwise it has been 55-60 at night and 75-85 during the day here. its 83 degrees right now.
  16. Don't think I am a desk jockey. honestly don't even own a desk. I do own an 8ft. fish eagle flipping rod that hangs neatly in my garage. longer rods wear me out. i use a 7ft. medium heavy fast action rod for flipping. if I need to reach out farther, then I pitch.
  17. Love the Beetlespin. A true classic. Caught my first big bass on one, when I was 10 years old.
  18. your water temp is already down to 60 degrees? surface temp here was still 75 when I was out Monday. We are not quite in fall mode yet.
  19. You are right. One thing you have to watch out for with gulp is, if you leave the bag unsealed for a couple hours, the baits will dry up and be unusable.
  20. Supposedly berkley power baits are bio degradable. I have not personally tested this.
  21. After giving fluorocarbon an honest try this year, I have moved back to Trilene XT and Maxima ultra green, on my nonbraid baitcaters. I tried sunline fc sniper, berkley 100% flouro, and berkley vanish. I did not see any noticeable improvement in abrasion resistance. did not notice any improvement in sensitivity. if you compare it to a stretchy line like trilene XL, maybe there is a difference. most of the waters I fish are stained or have a green tint, so the supposed invisibility seemed irrelevant in my case. Quality fluorocarbon is ridiculously expensive. The main reason I am going back to mono is, I broke off several fish this year. something I rarely do with mono. some of them were at the knot, but there were also several breaks away from the knot. If it works for some of you great. In my case , breaking off multiple fish is unacceptable.
  22. 2 years ago the wacky rigged senko was my go to bait. i am not Knocking the wacky rig. i still use it occasionally. from an economical and ecological standpoint, the Ned Rig makes more sense to me in most circumstances that require finesse.
  23. This is another good reason to use the ned rig over the wacky rig. With a ned rigged zinkerz or trd you can catch a couple dozen fish on one bait. with a wacky rigged senko. You might catch 2 or 3. Plus the senko sinks.
  24. Not sure if Senko kill anymore fish than other plastics. I do seem to lose more of them, because they are so fragile.
