are soft plastics Killing Bass
I came across this old article in BASSMASTER. Then I found this video. While I never discard my plastics in the water, it made me think of how many I lose. https://www.bassmaster.com/news/dont-discard-soft-plastics-they-can-kill

Power Pole/ Talons VS. Xi5 Ipilot
yes it is. the point I was making is, it handles Like a cable steer, not a power drive. from my own experience, if the cable breaks, you are dead in the water. that is unless you want to use the remote control. then there is nothing stopping it from overtravelling, or twisting the remaining cable.

Power Pole/ Talons VS. Xi5 Ipilot
thought about doing that on my boat. I was waiting to see how well the Ultrex works on its own. everyone I talked to that has one power pole, wished they had two. after using it I would think, the Ultrex would already have to be holding position before dropping the talon/power pole. otherwise the Ultrex would fight the power pole. the Ultrex will run the motor wide open if it is having trouble reaching position. In my opinion the Ultrex is not the best option if your boat is often sitting in shallow water. it will stir the bottom up trying to hold position. I rarely sit in shallow water, so it works great for me.

Power Pole/ Talons VS. Xi5 Ipilot
I debated whether to put power poles or an ultrex on my new ranger. considering I rarely am sitting in less than 10 ft and the wind is always blowing here in Kansas, I went with the Ultrex. I have I pilot, but don't have I pilot link for the hummingbird. I don't use I pilot very often, but use spotlock constantly. when using spotlock you have to pay attention to the wind/current and position your boat accordingly. If you don't,the boat will swing around pretty quick, trying to position itself. Also if you are in trees while using spotlock, you have to pay attention to the surroundings, or you may be bouncing off of trees, while spotlock is holding position. currently my boat is in the shop because the steering cable broke on the Ultrex. waiting for parts. should be back up and running in a day or 2. sounds Like this was fairly common on the first Ultrex's. Mine was the first one Cabelas received here in KC. even with the current issue, I would still buy another Ultrex. do not want to go back to fighting the wind manually.

time of year in bass cycle
wondered how long it would take for this kind of reply. I agree somewhat. In lakes with slot limits it is encouraged to harvest bass. also if you can't revive a fish it is better to eat it than waste it, I caught a 3lb smallie a month ago that sucked a shakyhead through its gills. it was nearly bled out when I landed it. tried to revive it for 15 minutes to no avail. I took it home and ate it.

Wiper tips
Love catching wipers , but I am not very consistent at finding them. pound for pound one of the hardest fighting fish I have caught. When I have found them this time of year, they were cruising along old river beds chasing schools of shad. Usually use jigging spoons for vertical presentation, or blade baits for casting past the school and burning it back.

Z MAN baits
I was just about to ask the same question. if you are using 14 lb line with the drag tight, a decent sized fish can straighten the fine wire z-man hooks, even if they don't break.

Plastics for Ned Rig?
1/2 a zinkerz always beats a TRD in my book. the floating argument is irrelevant to me. i do not use them as a standup style jig. when I fish the ned rig, it is slowly swimming just off of the bottom. a little shake of the rod brings a used Zinkerz to life.

Anyone else kind of a jerk?
around the lakes i fish the meat fishermen are usually using live bait for catfish or panfish. Problem is most of the bass that are kept and eaten are caught incidentally by these guys. whenever I get a chance, I try to explain the benefits of releasing the predators like bass, so the panfish population does not get overpopulated and stunted.

How often do you have a false hookset?
here is one of the posts he talks about it. there are others. if you watch his videos he is pretty successful with bladed jigs

Anyone else kind of a jerk?
If I am fortunate to be catching fish and someone asks, I will try to point them in the right direction. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that the reason for this forum?

How often do you have a false hookset?
wish I could remember. I think it was a response to another post.

How often do you have a false hookset?
I used to do the same thing. after reading BlueBassers' post, I slowed down and have caught some really nice bass this year.

How often do you have a false hookset?
I agree. if you are burning the chatterbait they will hook themselves. I have had a lot of success lately in the middle of a hot summer day slow rolling them along deep weed lines. I have not felt most of the big fish bite. the blade just stopped vibrating. I actually learned this from a post here from Bluebasser86, on bladed jigs. It improved my catch rate drastically.

Can't get hookset on senko!?
could you see the fish? the reason I am asking this is, small fish will grab a senko by the tail and take off. Never getting the hook in its mouth. panfish will do the same thing. Generally a larger fish will inhale it.

Left handed carry
By the way I only shoot lefthanded. all striker fired guns are ambidextrous. If you buy a gun with a safety, make sure it has a safety on the right side of the gun. I love to shoot 1911s and single action/double action guns, but I carry a striker fired gun without a manual safety. these guns have a built in safety on the trigger, and a firing pin block, that will not allow the gun to fire unless the trigger is pulled all the way back. the manual safety is one more thing to worry about in the unfortunate event that you actually have to use it in self defense.

Which lake would you fish?
My favorite Lake is 400 acres. it has a tournament every Wednesday evening. and a lot of pressure on the weekends. can't count how many times I have fished it on Friday morning and caught some really nice fish. I just slow down and finesse that lake.

It is not always the best technique for big fish, but it is hard to beat for numbers. the beauty of the ned rig is its simplicity. a medium or medium light spinning rod. get some mushroom heads in 1/6 oz. (1/15 oz. if you buy z man heads) and a few z man TRD's, . in a pinch you can cut any stick bait in half and catch fish. do a search on the web for Ned Kehdes' blog. The bait /technique is named after him. the technique is actually called midwest finesse. Ned rig is just the bait . It is an extremely easy and productive technique. If I am introducing someone to bass fishing the ned rig is what we use.

Left handed carry
I agree go to the range and shoot as many as possible.I own several handguns, but the gun I carry is a Springfield xdm. The compact model. It has a 13 round magazine that is very compact. It also comes with a 19 round magazine for the range. It fits my hand and has a nice trigger.

Plastics for Ned Rig?
"unique quiver" does sound a little strange. What I mean is: 1/2 of a Zinkerz, gets extremely flexible after you use it awhile and any movement makes the tail dance. I often stretch a new bait a few times to make it more flexible.

How often do you have a false hookset?
depends on the situation. if I am a fishing Chatterbait around weeds, up to 50 percent are false. with a chatterbait often times fish grab it from behind, and all you feel is the blade stop thumping. if the blade stops thumping I set the hook. if there is no fish I just keep reeling. often times after the false hookset a fish will grab the bait.
