Plastics for Ned Rig?
I have not had this problem either. in my opinion Elaztech gets better the more you use it. the original Midwest finesse guys chose these baits, because they could catch upwards of 50 fish on one bait. With that being said, I do consider it a one trick pony. The ned rig is the only bait I use it on.

Plastics for Ned Rig?
You can cut nearly any Stickbait in half and catch fish on a ned rig. Problem is Zmans Elaztech has a unique quiver in the water, that the other baits do not. Plus it is much more durable than other soft plastics. You will go through a lot more baits if you use something else. I have heard of the baits melting, but have never experienced this personally. they are stored under the deck of my boat year round, but the boat sits in my garage when not on the water.

Chatterbait vs Spinnerbait
Chatterbaits are my go to bait, if i am searching for fish on weedy lakes. I don't usually use them around wood. When the blade hits wood, the hook usually rolls into the wood and snags.

spent the afternoon at Wyandotte county lake. calm and bluebird sky. was expecting to have to finesse a few bites. Shakyhead, Ned rig, and wacky worm produced nothing. started throwing a chatterbait around shallow weed beds and caught a couple dozen fish. this one was the largest 19.5 inches . 4.2 lbs.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
I fished Perry today. It was slow. Fished all the way from slough creek bridge to rock creek bridge. caught most of the fish in the slough creek arm. bladed jigs, crankbaits, and shakyheads caught a few Smallmouth and 2 largemouth on rocky channel banks and bridge causeways. caught a few largemouth in brushpiles, off of points in around 10 feet of water on a jig. nearly every point in this lake has brushpiles. No big fish today. I also caught several drum, white bass, a couple big crappie, and a couple catfish, while fishing the crankbait. crankbaits seem to catch a lot of other fish in this lake.

Triton aluminum bass boats
There are people who will tell you to only buy a certain brand , but most new bass boats are well built. Fiberglass or aluminum. if you are going to use it on big lakes, I would stay away from flat bottom boats. Ranger, and Triton aluminum hulls are designed to handle semi rough water. Trackers revolution hull is also supposed to handle rough water. Shop around for different brands to find one with the layout you like you can afford. make sure there is a reputable service center nearby.

Charging battery without unplugging trolling motor
if your charger sends a voltage spike into the circuit the fuse will not stop it. A fuse only protects from over amperage.

Water Moccosin Chases Boat in Virginia
Glad we don't have them here. Kansas supposedly, has only had one verified cottonmouth report . that is fine with me. nearly stepped on a timber rattler turkey hunting. luckily he was content just rattling instead of striking.. still was enough to make me nearly soil myself.

Charging battery without unplugging trolling motor
never thought about it until this post. always thought if you shut the trolling motor off it was good to go. I have a Minn Kota Ultrex. It was expensive. From now on I will be flipping the trolling motor breaker before charging.

What do schools of shad actually look like?
From my experience, bass are usually only around the schools of shad. when they are feeding. schools of shad roam around a lot. bass seem to hold on structure waiting to ambush the shad as they swim by. if you don't see shad jumping frantically out of the water, I would look for ambush points nearby and fish there.

Y'all ready for deer season?
archery season starts here September 11, but I don't really get too excited until the leaves start falling. I would rather fish in hot weather than hunt. Plus In my zone I can hunt through January.

Better to be a specialist or a generalist?
i used to think being a specialist was best. years ago I used jerkbaits, both soft and hard, almost exclusively. Did well in most circumstances, but came to realize often times there were better ways to catch fish. i forced myself to learn new techniques to fill the void, where jerkbaits did not work well. I don't think you have to learn every bait or technique, but it improved my catch rate to learn a few new techniques.

Monofilament vs fluorocarbon
I was big on flouro until Lately. in heavier lines it is ok, but knot failures on big fish are frustrating. where it shines in my opinion is texas rigs and jigs, it does seem to have more sensitivity than mono. the only place flourocarbon is generally discouraged is topwater, because it sinks.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Spent the day at Smithville. slow day, but managed to catch 2 decent bass pitching a havoc pit boss. Here is my take on this tough lake after fishing it several times this summer. 1: bass stay shallow in this lake. But there has to be deep water close by. Have never caught one deeper than 10 ft. 2: In summer Bass relate to wood, with a rock bottom. I have only caught them on bare rip rap in the spring. 3: Thick lay downs produce better than standing timber. 4:they are heavily fished and easily spooked. Does anybody have any input on fishing this lake?

What weight sinker do you most commonly use to Texas Rig?
I use the lightest possible for the conditions. it depends on the weed density and depth i am trying to reach. if the weeds are sparse I will use no weight to 1/4 oz. if I have to punch through a mat I will go up to 3/8 - 3/4 oz.
