  1. Very sorry for you and the family. Really long way to travel for such a tragic reason. My thoughts go with you... As Ever, Skillet
  2. RLR, It was said above and I'll say it again, so very sorry for your loss. In these kinds of situations I just don't think we have the right words to convey the range of emotions. We are never truely gone as long our friends hold us in their memories... As Ever, Skillet
  3. I would like to jump to this but don't know if I'm going to explain it right :-[. I'm all for crossing their eyes when using jigs or soft plastics. I really like to throw both of them into places that I'm thinking the whole time "Man, if you hook a fish, you'll never get him out." So not only do I try to cross their eyes, I want them looking in my direction after the hook set!! If you've got pressure on the line and line watching you can tell when a fish is headed for a jump. IMHO most of the fish are not only using their strength. They are using your pressure on them to kind of make you a fulcrum. When I know or feel this (before they get to the surface) I don't give them slack but if your rod is high you can lessen the pressure and lean into them. That way they can't use their strength AND your pressure. Sure that hope doesn't sound like a wheel barrow full of BS As Ever, Skillet BTW MY wife has the number for the Home for the Chronically Bewildered if you think it is needed!
  4. Long Mike, Don't you feel better now. I know I did! ;D As Ever, Skillet BTW You just had to go and mention Goldie, didn't you. I won't be worth killin' for days now!
  5. I have done this for years. Somewhere and time before I got married I got a really large German beer stein (about 18"tall) and when it was filled I WAS RICH ;D! After I got married I noticed that it rarely got full :'(. I don't want to come right and accuse someone of having sticky fingers, but..... As Ever, Skillet

It's always great when you finally break the evil-eye. I'm not just wonderful when it comes to guessing weight (pretty durn sorry :'() I would like to say that I don't know what ya'll are feeding those fish over there ,no matter the length, they are all healthy looking pot-bellied beauties... As Ever, Skillet
  7. I actually think there are quite a few of us around, maybe jusy not ready to cop to it ;D Maybe we just need to come out, band together and start some kind of movement (DOM UNITE). Being a minority maybe we could qualify for grants, loans who knows what all. Myself, I would like to see if we could get that guy that was on Laugh-In in the long black coat and little black fedora for a spokesperson. If any other ideas, just write. I'm going to be looking into the grants and loans part myself : As Ever, Skillet
  8. CONGRATULATIONS After all the changes that a pregnancy and the baby arriving can bring on, it is really wonderful when you can say mother and child are fine and doing OK... As Ever, Skillet
  9. WELCOME to the Forum! You sure have my well wishes for tomorrow morning.... As Ever, Skillet
  10. WELCOME to the Forum! As Ever, Skillet
  11. Great looking fish for any weight line. If not mistaken, I remember when you posted about 5 lb. fish on 4 lb. line. Maybe I just need to break down and try it but I just can't see how you can reverse your motion to back reel as fast as a decent bass can turn and head for the wild blue yonder... As Ever, Skillet BTW you are starting to look like some kind of in the pic ;D
  12. Avid, I really like that Eau de bream. Long Mike that is one of the only pluses to ageing, you get to become a DOM (dirty old man) and no one thinks twice about it ;D As Ever, Skillet

Thanks CJ. Sounded like a great color until you said pumpkin (maybe the green flakes would make a difference). I really like baby brush hogs in green pumpkin. On a day when the fish were hitting that I switched over to pumpkin to give it a try. IMHO on those days or any other I just haven't had the bite on pumpkin... As Ever, Skillet
  14. I sure hope it is a bad batch like everyone says . Have just come across a sporting goods store that carries it (according to the web site) in Memphis and had decided to give it a try. Keep us up to date on what you find out, please.... As Ever, Skillet
  15. Most folks need thoughts and prayers once in a while, sometimes it's more immediate. Hopeing they take a turn for the better... As Ever, Skillet
  16. Went to a small lake yesterday and didn't really catch anything I could stretch into "almost" a keeper ;D. I was fishing from the bank and went around a corner into a small cove and the smell was INTENSE. It was the smell of bream bedding up and spawning. About the only way I can describe it is the cleanest musky smell in the world (I sure hope someone else knows what I'm talking about or I might end up in the Nervous Hospital ) It brought back a bunch of memories of fishing all the ox-bow lakes in ARK. and MISS. with my Daddy... As Ever, Skillet
  17. Don't give up the ship yet! I was pushing 30 and most all my friends had gotten married (at least once ;D) by now. Had just about come to the idea maybe it just wasn't meant to be :-/. Don't know about you but most all my friends had tried setting me upfor dates. Mostly those were disasters to put it mildly . After all that my wife was a blind date and we will have been married for 29 years come July... As Ever, Skillet BTW the other side of the coin: A single guy don't know what happiness is until he gets married.....and then it's too late :'(
  18. Glad you had a great time! Looking forward to you "being back on the Forums" ... As Ever, Skillet
  19. That "white crud" you mentioned must be a universal thing. Years ago I bought one of those really large metal tackle boxes (opens from the middle with 3 or 4 trays on each side and deep storage in the bottom) with lures at a yard sale. Whenever I've gone back into it for some reason, it had started growing and gets worse with time ... As Ever, Skillet
  20. Hello James. WELCOME to the Forum! It is a GREAT site, and the reasons you gave for joining are pretty much the reasons most folks join for IMHO... As Ever, Skillet

Haven't seen the rootbeer color you are talking about Burley. If I'm picturing it right, it almost sounds like green pumpkin (might be the reason my wife never lets me pick paint colors )... As Ever, Skillet
  22. When I read the post, the first thing I thought of was the beer can bait (thanks RecMar8541). I would think if someone could catch a fish with it, they should bite anything ;D As Ever, Skillet
  23. Both my parents really loved fishing. They were always dyed in the wool cane pole using panfishing anglers. My Daddy worked on and retired off the river. He always figured if he could work in it, he could fish in it (weather). I really can't remember when I first went fishing. I do remember the first bass I ever caught, was so young the cane pole had to be 3X my height. My parents acted like I had caught a gar. They didn't eat bass, and if they didn't eat it, they weren't interested in it. Have always loved everything associated with fishing, from being on the water at sun rise to the characters that always hung around the old time bait shops! As Ever, Skillet
