  1. I finally got to give my spinning set-up a try (several times). I had bought a 6' MH rod for my Symetre 2500 and I went to 2 small lakes that looked like they belonged on a golf course (nice bush-hogged field around them and water that was clear of any kind of debris). Caught some pretty small ones and a couple that would go maybe 2 1/2 or 3. It was great, had a ball with the 2 with a little size on them. Had thought I would write and join in with Avid and the few other "bait caster forever" guys that had tried spinning for the first time. Yesterday I went to one of the large ponds I normally fish, over-hanging limbs and trees growing right to the water's edge and water full of downed trees, roots growing into the water and stobs and stick-ups everywhere . Only had 8 lb. line on the reel. Don't know if it was that (well, duh) or just me. I went right to the BC with 12 lb. test to get them out as quick as possible. All that to say, like a few of you said before, a time and place for both types of reels... As Ever, Skillet
  2. other, As you can see I deleted my post and I sincerely apologize if I offended your sensibilities :-[. I appreciate being included in such august company as LBH. Thanks for the compliment also, at my age they come few and far between, even if they come "thru the back door"......... I'll inflict myself on you no longer :-/ Skillet
  3. WELCOME to the forum! It would be hard to add much to what has been said already. Have a Garcia from '82 and some hard baits that I know are more than 15 yrs. old. Never bought enough soft plastics at one time to last that long ;D As Ever, Skillet
  4. I've seen where it was done with a Zoom Worm DR. (a floating worm) nail in the tail to get it to stand up off the bottom. Never talked myself into it... As Ever, Skillet

DAAYUM! I just didn't realize how good my day had gone . Thanks!! As Ever, Skillet
  6. booyah posted something along this line. If you do a search, there was some good information (really). There are quite a few of us on the forum that have been in pretty much the same situation, (and I hate to say this) with varing degrees of help with the pain and everything else that goes with the problem in the long term. I am fairly tall (6'4") and also have a long body. Because of this the doctor I had wouldn't do a fusion. The way he explained it was you basically ended up with a place in your spine that didn't bend with the rest of you. He opened me up and just removed the pieces of bone. I had to go thru it twice :-/. Thankfully I have had no major problems in a lot of years. Be sure of your Dr. and you agree with what he wants to do. Try and not put it for too long. That can create more problems. I almost ended up crippled in my right leg. Any time the have to cut into you it's da**ed serious, but sometimes......... As Ever, Skillet
  7. I was a lurker for so long it was embarassing to tell. I'm fairly long-winded myself (and can't type worth a durn, my 2 forefingers get tied in knots). I'm glad you decided to join, don't have to tell you what kind of folks we've got on here. WELCOME As Ever, Skillet
  8. I really like the jitterbug at dark or dark-thirty. Have had a lot of success with Smithwick devil's horse. As far as walking the dog baits Luhr Jensen makes a dalton special that is great. IMO it swings farther to the left and right than other lures of that type. To paraphrase someone "I've never met a top-water bait I didn't like." Even if they don't work especially well ;D... 9. Haven't used that rod or reel, so probably not much help. Get a few more specs on that rod then ask reelmech, he knows his rods (actually most all equipment). Quite a few folks on the forum use BPS reels. Someone will chime in with an opinion. I try to stay somewhere between cheaping out and breaking the bank myself. It's not easy sometimes especially when you want to upgrade. Wanted to say WELCOME to the forum. Some really great folks show up here... As Ever, Skillet
  10. WELCOME to the forum and what Alpster posted pretty much covers it.. As Ever, Skillet

WELCOME to the forum! I'll add to the confusion by saying: 1.Worms- 6" or so worms 2/0 offset worm hook 2.Creature Baits- 2/0 to 3/0 Gammi EWG hooks 3. Flukes- 4/0 Gammi EWG hooks You're going to have to try a lot of different things and then settle on what you personally like. I think almost all of our answers to almost all questions could start with the phrase "in my opinion" ;D... As Ever, Skillet
  12. I don't know if I've ever been put in a situation that black or white. Have been in situations that were a lot more (maybe shades of) grey. Black or white is a lot easier to deal with, grey sucks. There were times when I did the right (don't know if that is the best word to use) and times when I didn't. Don't know if that makes me a good guy, an a**hole or just human... As Ever, Skillet

  17. Not just the tech. stuff. The everything else page, broken fins thread, joking with each other and general BS. Almost without exception if someone goes over the line, they step up and apologize or try to make it right. As many of you know it's not anywhere near like that on a lot of sites. Thanks not only go to the folks who keep it running but the members as well ... As Ever, Skillet
  18. I started losing hair at a fairly early age and had heard that it was always tied in with the female side of the family. All the males on my father's side were either bald or pretty thin. On my mother's side all had a head full of hair right up to the end (go figure). Had to start on a course of meds that they told me would change the consistancy of my hair and nails (had long hair that I kept pulled back). After about a month my finger nails started breaking and tearing for almost no reason and noticed that every time I brushed my hair there would be more and more in the brush . Went to Sears and bought a hair cutting kit that included a set of clippers with different settings for length and now just cut my beard and hair the same length (about an 1/8 of an inch ). Was getting kind of long in the tooth to look like an over-the-hill deadhead ... As Ever, Skillet BTW There are so many folks that almost have a breakdown over baldness, if it really worked as well as they say, I think it would be front page news in every paper !!!

Glad you joined us!! WELCOME As Ever, Skillet
  20. I have been fishing ponds, small farm ponds and lakes for a long time. Would fish a wet spot in the road while dodging cars if I thought it held a fish. Like Matt 5.0 said, you would really be surprised at some of the places that have held fish. About the only thing I don't fish in a small pond is a diving crank bait (I will if I'm durned sure there is nothing to hang-up on). It kills my soul to lose an expensive bait. I have even been known to go swimming . IMO fish aren't nearly as jaded from seeing every lure in the BPS flyer go pass them... As Ever, Skillet
  21. Sorry, don't know much about tournaments. Would like to say WELCOME to you... As Ever, Skillet

  25. Squid, CONGRATULATIONS I know there are folks that think it's edible (no accounting for some folks taste), but if I'm going to eat fried fish, Crappie or Bream... As Ever, Skillet
