  1. Congratulations LBH!! I used to work 7 to 3:30 and when Day Light Savings Time hit, it was great to head for a lake or pond. Those looong sunsets were great for the top water bite. ENJOY IT!!! As Ever, Skillet
  2. Our 2nd is going to be born around April 11. The doctors says it's going to be another boy. Lord'a'mercy I never thought I'd live to hear the word Granpa, especially times 2... As Ever, Skillet BTW We've become our parents AIIIIIIIIIIEEEIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE !!!
  3. signguy, The Great White North eh. Glad you started posting and WELCOME .... As Ever, Skillet
  4. I don't think I have ever had to tune a Rapala out of the box. I got a floating jointed Rapala a while ago and just got to try it day before yesterday. Couldn't get it to run true . I've never used a split ring or Rapala knot on one before. Could this be the problem or did I just luck out and get the only bad one (if it weren't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all :'().... As Ever, Skillet
  5. Definitely on Jitterbugs and Smithwyck Rouges and Devil Horse's... As Ever, Skillet
  6. dgk55, Welcome to the forum! I still use Bionic Blades but have upgraded to a better reel. If you are just starting out their combo's are hard to beat for the money... As Ever, Skillet
  7. :-/Interesting? :-/ Interesting as in sticking your head in a lion's mouth maybe ... As Ever, Skillet
  8. If you can't actually be fishing , the next best thing is talking about it with friends (not a word to be thrown around lightly) ;D. LBH, It's just not in the cards right now, but I can't think of a better way to spend the time!! Maybe next year. I hope, I hope, I hope!! As Ever, Skillet
  9. I just bought a 5'6" M pistol-grip from BPS. While there are better rods out there (will get no argument from me) for my use and the cost, IMO you can't go wrong. As I've said before I've never had the chance to use a "high end" rod and they say ignorance is bliss. I am perfectly happy with them... As Ever, Skillet
  10. ghoti, I just wanted to add my well wishes and a Happy Birthday youngster... As Ever, Skillet
  11. squid, Great month for a birthday (mine too). HAPPY BIRTHDAY ... As Ever, Skillet
  12. SouthernJeepn06 WELCOME !! I use shorter rods 5'6" to 6'. A lot of folks like them longer (can't fight logic like that). Medium sounds OK for what you want to do. It all boils down to personal preference. Most of the Bass Pros arehaving sales now. Bionic Blades are $49 and change... As Ever, Skillet
  13. deek20002001, First off would like to say WELCOME !! There are so durned many choices when you go to a sporting section (especially when you are new and don't really know what you want or need). Don't mean to try a cop-out, but it's really hard from long distance to help. With as many guys that must be stationed with you, I think that I would try to find someone interested in bass fishing and sit him down for a serious talk. I don't know know any fisherman that would turn down the chance to expond on his ;Dwisdom ;D to a person new to the sport. Hope this helps some... As Ever, Skillet

  15. They aren't as smooth and tend to sometimes "catch". IMO it would be worth your time and money to learn a BC or Spinning set-up. After saying that, I will say that I used 33's for a number of years and really enjoyed the fishing. A lot of folks could probably say the same thing... As Ever, Skillet
  16. I'm not real sure what reels they have on their combos now. I've got a Symetre 2500 and you could go up to 10lb. on it or go to some of the different type lines that are smaller diameter. Very happy with it. If you are going to try more bass than pan fishing, you might think MH rather than M. Other than that I think you're on pretty solid ground with your thinking... As Ever I don't remember if I said this but WELCOME !!
  17. This is really like it's coming from an old fa*t (and it is). In football they get away with a lot more than they used to and I can remember when basketball was not a contact sport. I kind of figured after ESPN got into it and the money got so big it would attract these kind of folks and these kinds of incidents. I hate to say it but I think most folks probably want it this way. You can't say anymore "It's just FISHIN'"...... As Ever, Skillet

The 10" skillet I've got has really got a case of jungle rott on the outside (have no earthly idea how old it is or where it came from). I knew how bad it was if you did it the conventional way and was waiting for Spring so I could air out the house when finished. If I try it this way does it really have to get redhot (that might be a recipe for disaster even outside As Ever, Skillet
  19. Glenn and the Mods (sounds like 70's British Invasion Group), I know not everyone is going to agree with your decision on this subject. As far as I'm concerned THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANKYOU .This was one of the main reasons I joined this site! Have visited other sites where one of these "discussions" has degenerated to the point to where if I was one of the participants and fishing in a boat with the other one, I wouldn't turn my back while he had a handful of 6'+ rod and a large lure with a lot of treble hooks ;D.... justfishin, As others have said "I resemble that remark". Actually if you want to get technical, in this part of the world, it was called "The War of Northern Aggression" ;D... "FERGIT HEL*" As Ever, Skillet
  21. Don't mean to step on any toes here. He is a good fisherman and has an awful lot of fans (glad ya'll don't give out addresses). Annnnyway, I saw the incident with Zell and a few other things and IMHO his attitude needs a little adjusting ... As Ever, Skillet I guess I will never understand people. All the stuff that was thrown in Byron's direction because of his personality (I REALLY always thought he was O.K.) and then there's Gerald with his...
  22. Pendulum, With being 16, it gives you more to learn and fish. Actually, learning tips and things from folks and then trying the ones you like is part of the fun! I would also like to say WELCOME ... As Ever, Skillet
  23. Both my Momma and Daddy were dyed-in-the-wool cane pole fishermen (and fisherwomen, maybe anglers is a better term), so I don't know when I started. Really,as far back as I remember. Man, if I had the time, some of the stories I do still remember (burnt too many brain cells at one time) but as all of you "all fishermen are liars" ;D!! I do remember the first bass I ever caught. I must have been about 7 or 8 fishing with my parents (fishing with worms) for catfish. We were using cane poles and corks and the cork just went out of sight instantly, no nibble or anything. When I raised the pole, which had to be 8 or 9 feet taller than me, I couldn't get the fish to come to the top of the water. Not knowing any better, I just ran backwards up the bank pole in hand, and drug him out of the water. Thought it was the biggest fish I had ever seen !! My parents soon thru cold water on the whole situation by telling me "It's just a bass". They considered anything they didn't eat on about the same level as gar :'(... As Ever, Skillet
  24. I would have to go with the Rapala. I realize they don't have anything to do with each other but I started out with the Rogues because they were manufactured by the same people as made the Devil's Horse (IMO they are great). IMO I have a problem getting the Rogues to truly suspend (maybe 1 out of a bunch)..... As Ever, Skillet
  25. Durn, and I always thought getting a 3-duce set-up running in sync was impossible... As Ever, Skillet
