We just had our yearly bid at UPS. Seems there were a few new jobs added to the list that many folks didn't notice when filling out their bid slips. I GOT ONE OF THEM!!

I will now be working from 4am to 8am working with the kids loading the package cars. Then I go change into uniform and deliver "early AM's" (our highest priority srvice)(Like a next day air that has to be there much earlier than normal commit times).

I do this till 11am and then I have my 1 hr and 20 mins worth of breaks and then I go......

FISHING!!!!!

My partner Eric also just had his sales territory changed. Now he does the area our lake is in so I will be grabbing the boat and meeting him up at the lake around 2pm,...EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so pumped to be off the road and back inside. The hours are PERFECT!! I'm very excited.

Now that's cool. 8-) It's almost as good as my job.

ALMOST,....but I'm not complaining!!!

This also helps me out with CAST for Kids stuff because now when I have an event to travel to, I will be out by noon on that friday, making flights and reservations much easier to deal with.

Is that the big decision you pondered over for a while? Sounds like you made a great choice. Its about like my schedule.....I work 5:30a - 2p M-F  ......sure feels good to roll out at 2 and head to the lake. Once the time changes we'll really be in business.

No Scott, I have been actually throwing around the idea of a complete career change.  I'm often told that I am way too creative and have too much passion to be delivering boxes.  The problem is,...anyhting I look at going into pays about 1/2.  Just too much of a cut.  I have a few personal things in the works to try and get me on a different path eventually but this job just got alot better so I guess I'll be riding it out for at least another year and we'll see what this new position is like.

Well, I don't know,lol. My last position left me with lots of computer work that I was able to do at home. I was on ALOT this year. The other 1/2 of the job had me doing some of the most messed up, frustrating, routes. This particular center is a logistical mess and the current powers to be, have their head you know where. Also, even on the days I got to work from home, I had to be back at the facility in the evening for "turn in" so I couldn't take off fishing when I was done in the afternoon.

When I would do a route, I couldn't just crush it and get in. The center is such a mess, there is ALWAYS someone who would need help. No fishing. In the old days, I could crush a route, get in and get to the lake.

Now,...11:00 comes and I'm GONE!

Priorities,lol.

WAY TO GO!!!

For me, work is all about having quality time to enjoy life and the $$$ to support my mistake habits.

It sounds like you have found the magic formula--FANTASTIC!!!

Congratulations LBH!! I used to work 7 to 3:30 and when Day Light Savings Time hit, it was great to head for a lake or pond. Those looong sunsets were great for the top water bite. ENJOY IT!!!

Excellent Russ! You are sharp enough to do anything you want. I'm glad work stuff is allowing some more fishing time. You talked about other work options. Maybe will get some time at Fork and I will tell you about how I bailed out on my own and why I think it's the best thing to do. In the mean time, congratulations.

Russ, that is great news!  Congratulations.   Sometimes the hardest part of starting a new carreer is simply taking the plunge.  I hear you on the pay being about 1/2 of what you are making now, but in the long run, take a look at what you can do with the new job and where it can take you.  If it's further than your current carreer path, the sooner you star the sooner you;ll get there.  Not to meontion that you are in the perfect position to be able to do so now.  No wife or kids and all.  If you were in that position then the change would be much more difficult.

I WAS DONE AT ABOUT 9 EVERYMORNING AND AT THE TIME I WAS AN AVID MOUNTAIN BIKER, WE WOULD BIKE RIGHT AFTER WORK FOR ABOUT THREE HOURS. IT WAS GREAT. Oh man, talk about having the carpet pulled out from under you,....I got bumped. When I was told I could take that job, the manager running the bid said it was current. It wasn't. 3 people ahead of me had yet to submit their slips and one of them bid for that job. Nothing I can do.

Now I'm not one to count my chickens before they hatch but this was the manager RUNNING the bid that told me I was clear. Said it would be posted monday morning.

Soooo,..after a walking on air weekend,....I feel like I got punched in the gut.

What can brown do to you?
