Wal-Mart
I went yesterday to the nearest one to me and I guess they have cut it down by more than a 1/3. There wasn't a whole lot on sale except several kinds of FLW soft baits and a couple of diffreent jigs, none of which I really use. I've tried to tell my wife more than once, what is the use of spending money for something that is on sale even for a great price if you never use it. I think I hear the bait monkey screaming in pain somewhere in the background ;D. I had been planning on buying a digital scale. They had 5 or 6 Rapalas on sale for almost 1/2 off and I did pick one of those up. Had to sacrifice something to the monkey... :-/ As Ever, Skillet

What's your phobia.
Hookemdown, My wife makes dolls of different people (me for instance) and for people that contact her over the net. Several have made it into national doll magazines and they make me uncomfortable enough and ventrilquist dummies, I can break out in hives . The very worst is going into one of those doll hospitals or a store that specializes in older dolls as is. They have whole rooms full of these "dolls" that are missing an eye , arms , legs, torn dirty clothes, faces that are 1/2 broke out, missing part of their head or they are old enough where their skin looks like they have leprosy, jungle rot or something worse. It's enough to send me screaming into the night and hurt either myself or someone else trying to get away from them ! I realize I have some issues but if this ever gets out, I'm in for a lot of very long and very expensive therapy sessions. Keep these ramblings under ya'lls hats..... As Ever, Skillet

in line spinners
I remembered this last night after I logged off. I happened to meet Bill Dance at a store opening or something like that quite a number of years ago (man, it seems like I start a lot of my stories with "quite a number of years ago" ). I had several #3 Mepps in my hand when I went to shake hands with him. He saw them and said "some of the best baits for smaller lakes and ponds". I know a few people have problems with him (fishing stocked private ponds and such) but I've probably learned more from him than anyone and still think a lot about his opinions on things related to fishing... Pond Fishing
Martijw, Welcome to the board. I pretty much only get to fish small lakes or farm ponds, but I don't look at it as a bad thing. I really like it!!! I will fish pretty much fish any bait that you fish in larger lakes except crank baits. It's not that I don't like them, I just don't like swimming for them when I get hung up. I was always under the impression that if you could see the fish, they could see you and won't normally bite. That's if they don't take off like their tails on fire, leaving a nice pretty V wake where they were ... As Ever, Skillet

in line spinners
Mepps #3's were probably the first bait I used after getting away from pan-fish. I was still using Zebco 33's back then. Still use them some and still like them as much. I always used the white haired and silver blade or the buck-tail with brass blade. I picked up a #4 not too long ago and haven't gotten a chance to try it out (weather is bad and getting worse, supposed to go down to 17 tonight and then sleet, freezing rain and snow for several days :'( we're all gonna die!! just not used to this kind of stuff around Memphis). The line twist doesn't bother me as bad as them reaching out and getting hung up on anything in the water within 5' of "em. I guess it's because of them being small, but when anything with any size inhales them they go deeper than a rubber worm that's been swallowed. Even with those several problems, on light gear they are a blast... As Ever, Skillet

Jitterbugs
I sure appreciate all the input of ideas from ya'll. It was just what I was looking for. Raul, I think maybe it was one of your posts that got me to thinking about this. You said something about telling the secret and then having to kill you ! Like I said before , soul of discretion and wouldn't tell anyone :... As Ever, Skillet

Jitterbugs
I hope this is not hi-jacking a post or anything, not quite sure of the proper etiquette. If so, I apoligize to Redtail from the start . I have read somewhere (having slept since then, I don't remember where) about altering the cup on the face of a jitterbug to get a different sound. If anyone knows what I am talking about, let us know. Don't want to ruin my jitterbug so I would like to have some idea before I jump in with all 4 feet. If you are worried about it getting out, I am the soul of discretion. I promise to not tell anyone :.... As Ever, Skillet

Revlon top coat
I had written in a while ago about a wooden top water lure that had developed several small cracks in the top clear finish. Went to the cosmetic counter at the local Wal-Mart and asked the lady there about some really tough clear finger nail polish. After giving me a really funny look , she recommended Revlon Extra Life clear top coat. It worked really well! For those of us that aren't set up to do a complete refinish, I thought I would pass this along.... As Ever, Skillet

How to fish a baby brush hog?
I've only been using them for a little over a year, used jigs mostly. T rigged with 1/8 to 1/4 weight. They are the best thing since they started slicing bread ! Tried the regular Brush Hog lately and it seemed to underline the saying of "big bait big fish", big bait for me anyway relative term I guess. It seemed that I didn't get as many bites from smaller fish. They are 2 of my favorites!! PS, I throw them in the worst places I can find.... As Ever, Skillet

rod
Almost all of my fishing is done in small lakes, farm ponds or old river runs. Nine times out of ten it is always tight with over-grown weeds, trees really close to the water, low hanging limbs or all of the above. I fished 5'6" for a whole lot of years and finally stepped up to a 6' M Bionic Blade for one of my casting set ups and a 6' MH Berkely Bionix (I just got it at Wal-Mart on sale for a really good price) for a spinning rig. I got a gift certificate for X-Mas that I'm holding onto until they have a sale at Bass Pro for a 5'6" M pistol grip. I guess it's true what they say about old dogs and new tricks. From reading most of the posts and watching TV, I thought I was the only one left that fished shorter rods with pistol grips. Glad to know that is not quite the truth..... As Ever, Skillet

Anyone else have a "redneck aquarium"?
I was in a local pet store the other day and they had a peacock bass for sale $69 (Sale ??). Think I was reading where they are in the Chiclid family (not sure, I have slept since then ).... As Ever, Skillet

Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft - Questions?
Lard Bass, Because of roadwarrior and the purchase of a Symetre spinning reel here lately, I was wondering most of those questions myself. Thanks for this post.... As Ever, Skillet

Shimano Posse
A little less than a year, started off with the new Citica and then got the Symetre 2500. I posted this several days ago, but in case you didn't see it. I got my Garcia Ultra Mag 1 (1982) back from Reel Mec. He worked his magic on it and it's at least as good as new if not better. After this many years and that many hours on the water it was like putting my hand back into a well worn leather work glove... As Ever, Skillet

Basspro05, Take it from someone who has been there, done that and bought the Tshirt. You can grow older without growing up.Just ask my wife, she'll tell you . HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!

Happy customer
I got my reel back today . David (Reel Mech) did his magic on it and I'm really happy with his work, how he kept me updated and his emails while he had the reel. It is a Garcia Ultra-Mag1 (older than quite a few folks posting probably 1982). I realize it really can't compare to today's reels but it was the first real baitcaster after getting away from Zebco 33s. It has always been a great reel for me and with David's help, hopefully, it will stay that way ..... As Ever, Skillet

Anybody use a Berkley Bionix Rod?
After I logged off, I realized I wasn't quite clear on my last post of comparing a Bionic Blade M action to the Bionix MH. The Bionic Blade is a bait caster and the Bionix that I just bought (first Berkley rod) is a spinning rod. Just messing with it out in the yard, it seems really nice. I'll have to wait for any real test on the water, it's colder than a well digger's destination out there now :'(.... As Ever, Skillet

Anybody use a Berkley Bionix Rod?
I just bought a 6' MH yesterday to go with Symetry 2500. ALL the spinning rods I've had before were light or med. light. I always used spinning just for pan fish. I really wanted something heavier to try. I could be wrong about this (have been before) but the action of the Bionix MH seems to be about the same as a Bionic Blade M that I've got and I like the action well enough to be planning on getting another when they go on sale in about a month at 1/2 price... Got Tired of Lurking
Thank everyone for their warm welcomes. I really should have signed up a long time ago. Better late than never. Daniel, RW lives on the other side of the county from me and I have thought of that very same thing. Maybe I'll get an invite one of these days.

Devils Horse lure?
One of the best top water days I've ever had was with a Devil's Horse. It was an old Miss. river run down south of Memphis. The fish were so aggressive they would have probably hit anything on top. I'll stick with the theory of it being that particular lure though. I was used to seeing them in sizes from 1/4 to 1/2 but I found one at a yard sale that is 6" long counting the eyes on each end. It looks like something you could go after peacock bass with. Has anyone seen one of these, maybe a Musky lure? I know nothing of fish north of the Mason-Dixon.... As Ever, Skillet

Cracks in finish
Chris, Thanks for the input on the cracks! I don't know if that lure is made anymore. Have had mine forever. When walking the dog, this lure seems to swing wider than any other of that type. Do you happen to know if that is a co. or lure name (Dalton Special)...... As Ever, Skillet
