Dude I got a Dell
Our Gateway is probably 7 years old and we are looking right down the barrel of a 12 gauge on getting a new desktop :'(. I like to get opinions before I buy something and computer people are worse even fishermen about believing if you don't follow their advice you're gonna die and go where angels fear to tread ... HAPPY MARDI GRAS TO ALL
Water Dog, I really like to cook myself, wish I was better. I'm not an intuitive cook, have to have a receipe in front of me which I practice on forever and then maybe change a little. I think I've seen every episode of Justin's, and thought they were all great! Just now learning how great cast iron is for cooking. The nickname comes from anything but cooking (maybe we'll get into it one day, rather an embarrasing story) and I have the scar to prove it ;D... As Ever, Skillet

Broken Fin Fishing Fools
Avid, I have been following these threads since you started them (trying my damnedest to figure where to go after starting this) figuring a lot of us share more than just our passion of keeping tackle manufactures fat, happy and rich! You might remember when I wrote to you about "maybe we'll talk someday". Well, I thought I would write after your thread about meds (without getting to deep with 8,000+ folks looking on). Last Spring I had to start a regiment of drug therapy and the side effects are so bad that they won't let you start without agreeing to take anti-depresents (you have to take these drugs for at least 48 wks.). Let me say here that I was never a believer in pharmecutical (spelling) sanity! When I started this they started me on so many 'scripts at the same time, I didn't know which side effects went with which drugs. I seriously felt like I was living a Pink Floyd song "You raise the blade, you make the change. You lock the door and throw away the key. There's someone in my head and it's not me". Man that sounds strange, even to me! After getting used to what was supposed to be happening, I realized, I probably should have started something like this back when I got out of the service. Maybe it would have saved me a lot of grief over a lot of years. After saying that, I'm still not sold on someone messing with my head this way. Helps to know most folks feel pretty much the same way... As Ever, Skillet Still don't know whether to hit the POST button..........................

Spinner Bait Skirts
I changed out some skirts on several of my spinner baits with some round silicone skirts. They are the kind that have a holder about half way between the ends, so the skirt comes out around the lead head and also back along the hook. Is this one of those things that just comes down to IMO (doesn't everything ;D)? The skirts hang about 1 1/2" from the back of the hook and I notice that factory skirts are a lot shorter. Just wondering if you folks that make your own have a prefrence? As Ever, Skillet

HAPPY MARDI GRAS TO ALL
I apologize to Muddy and the rest if this is considered hi-jacking a post (the ol' saw about being easier to apologize than ask permission) :-[. Catt, I never worked the inter-costal waterway. The tow-boat I was working on at the time was one of the largest on the river, a 10,500 HP (3 3,500's) and the fastest we ever made a complete round trip was 11 or 12 days. Water Dog, New Port is all the way across the state from me and I think TN is one of the widest, especially compared to N to S. Had to be a good guy, having come from the great state of TN. Geography and everything else considered, you probably wouldn't know you were in the same state if you weren't told. I'm the only I know who signs this way, unless it's a case of "great minds thinking alike" ;D... As Ever, Skillet

HAPPY MARDI GRAS TO ALL
One of ya'll brought up "the heat and humidity", so I thought I would add this. Even in the dead of winter in St. Louis, cold enough to freeze molasses, by yhe time you got to New Orleans the weather was 180 degrees different. This was my first trip as First Mate. It was late winter one year and we were making up a tow of barges in Cairo to take south to New Orleans. It had started snowing the day or so before we got there so all the barges we had to work on had at least a foot of snow. There was an unbeleivable amount of ice in the river, you couldn't pull the barges tight enough together to get them to touch. That meant we had a loose tow all the way south and was working our collective butts off trying to pull the barges together as the ice melted. When we finally made it there, still had a lot of snow and ice on the barges and and everyone was wore out from having to put up with it all the way from Cairo. The coon-a**es I don't think had ever seen snow were having snow ball fights, making snow angels and just generally having a good time. We just stood around with our mouths hanging open. I was never more ready to turn a tow over to them, ever!!! As Ever, Skillet

Cork Sealant
I have 2 rods that are basically new and 2 that are well used and need cleaning. I think I have read here that you clean with warm water and detergent, anything better? Could I get some opinions on what to use to seal the cork on the new ones and the used ones after cleaning? Also if you use a sealant does it make them slippery or tacky? Would it be better just to forget the sealant and clean when needed or what? If you recommend the sealant, best place to purchase? As Ever, Skillet a.k.a. Terminally Bewildered

It was said by or about James Dean "live hard, die young and leave a good looking corpse". I guess I'll only qualify for 1 of those :-/. Turned 58 today , and haven't done near enough fishing ;D!!! As Ever, Skillet

Prayers Please, tragic student death
I can remember when I was younger and lost classmates to accidents. It is a gut wrenching time for the family and friends. When you are that age it is really hard to learn one of life's worst lessons, you are not invincible. My thoughts go out to you, his friends and especially his family... As Ever, Skillet

HAPPY MARDI GRAS TO ALL
I worked on the river for about 6 years. The first 3 were on the lower Miss. on the run between St.Louis and New Orleans. I caught up with the boat (for my 30 days on) many times in New Orleans. I would fly in from Memphis and catch a cab to the Carrolton Ave. area. Never had a chance to spend enough time there. A few years later my wife, youngest daughter and I visited for a long weekend (4 days). I think some of the best days were spent walking around the river front area eating po' boys or muffalattas (spelling ?), drinking rum daiquiris and listening to all the free jazz and blues. I couldn't believe how good some of the guys just playing on the street or in small alleys (with there instrument case in front of them for change) were (and I thought Memhis had a lot of good musicians) . I wish I could spend some more time there, like some of ya'll have, just to know what I have missed :-/!! As Ever, Skillet

STUN GUN ( Only a guy would do this )
I knew it had to be great when I read the part in the title "only a guy would do this". I just don't know if God gave women some kind of safety switch in their brain or what. They have no sense of adventure or couriosity and are no fun when it comes to this kind of thing. I can just see my wife sitting on the sofa, in the den, with just her under clothes on, taser in hand wondering something like that (get the picture). Ain't gonna happen never will!!! I had tears in my eyes by the time I got thru reading that. It was great!!! As Ever, Skillet

to frog or not to frog. that is the question
BASS XL, I started a thread a few days ago entitled Hollow Bodied Frogs. Do a search for it. There were quite a few folks that responded with what they used. That way you'll have some idea of what's out there. Quite a few frogs on the market now. Most of the companies have hollow mice and rats too. As much as I've been fishing in my life, I've never seen one of them walk on water ;D... As Ever, Skillet

to frog or not to frog. that is the question
I haven't seen any spinner bait looking fish living in the ponds and lakes I've been fishing lately ;D. I apologize for being an smarta** (I just couldn't stand it any longer ). Like MDangler14 said if it has the right cover, Do It. The heart stopping blow-ups would be worth it if you never caught them, but you will ... As Ever, Skillet
