Anyone else the SC Mojo Bass 68MHF Casting rod?
I had the old 6’6” MH and newer 6’8” version. Sc2 vs sc3 graphite but I liked both rods. Kinda wish I had stuck with shorter rods as that’s all I used to use but I fell into the longer rod thing and the rest is history. It’s a nice all purpose rod, has a nice tip on it, I used mine for swim jigs.

!What’s your absolutely favorite high end flipping stick ?
This makes so much sense. Outside of preference I think there’s trade offs in regards to power.

Where did the old timers go?
This site is one of the oldest bass fishing sites there is, probably the longest running bass sites. I have only been a member a few years but I’ve lurked since around 2002. I would sit in the library in high school and “do homework”, surfing fishing sites. I’ll mention them because they had significance, at least to me, and they no longer exist. But dad and I were heavy on the BPS forums and developed friendships and met some folks. I wonder what happened to a lot of the people. BFHP was a huge site that had been around since early World Wide Web. Too bad that one is gone but the web site was archaic. Have ran into a few old members from there on other forums. I think forums have changed over the years and are less popular overall. This one was always good, but it also took the place of several others, including the ones I mentioned. I almost can’t believe that the senko is not the hottest topic of conversation anymore, it was incredible the amount of questions surrounsing that lure across all forums. The only thing that is guaranteed is change.

“Budget” Spinning Full-Cork Handle Rods
I’m not sure. The casting rod I have is a 7’3” Heavy and feels like a true fast. I threw A-rigs and frogs on it last fall but threw a jig on it from time to time and thought it punched above its price point. Based on that I’d give the spinning rods a hard look if I was needing one.

“Budget” Spinning Full-Cork Handle Rods
Lightning rods are nice for $40. For $80 I’d look at Falcon EVO. I have an evo casting rod and like it a lot. For $100 the St. Croix Triumph is my favorite.

St Croix Mojo Bass 7’5 MH/F “Warhorse”
The newest mojo bass I do not have experience with yet, but I’m sure someone will chime in shortly who does. I do have experience with the Victory and Legend Tournament bass workhorse models. I had a warranty issue with a very early production victory and exchanged it for the 7’3” HXF. All very good. I really do like the LTB workhorse as a do everything rod. I was surprised at how capable it was as a finesse jig rod also, the tip is perfect. I’ve also flipped with it a bit and it seems to have plenty of power for a MH. It’s a touch tip heavy at 7’3” but a heavier reel or a “normal” reel for that matter would balance it out well. I have an SLX mgl 70 on mine and the combo feels great. It’s right up there with my favorites.

Is the Daiwa tatula CT better than the shimano cuardo K?
The K is a better made reel, and more comfortable in my hands. The Ct is an overachiever in performance and less fussy than the K. Best of both worlds is SLX mgl 70.

What exactly is going on with St. Croix?
I agree. That was a big issue with Sears. Guys bringing a ratchet in because they put a 3 foot cheater pipe on it and stripped the gears. I’m sorry that’s not right. I have beater screwdrivers and ratchets dedicated to abusive situations, if I break it because I’m practically trying to I’m not going to warranty it.

Z18 or Z19 Honest Opinions
18’ boats were the gold standard for years. I own an 19 foot ranger and have been on everything from a narrow creek to Rayburn, bull shoals to lake Murray, the Mississippi River to Sturgeon Bay. You need to pick your days and be smart. A 21’ is more comfortable in 4 footers but only a little. If it’s that rough I stay home, these days. That said if the 19 fits your budget, garage, I would get that. A little more space and I feel is the perfect all around size bass boat for most situations. Good luck in your search. The new Nitros are very nice and be proud to own one.

Suggestions for baitcaster tatula vs curado vs slx
I’ve casted husky jerks, which are tough to cast real well with them, I’ve also punched matts with a 1oz pegged weight, no issues. You are really only limited by the spool size on that reel, if you are bombing frogs, swim baits, big cranks I’d look at something else. But a 40 yard cast with light lures is quite achievable. A lot of this is preference.

Suggestions for baitcaster tatula vs curado vs slx
This is correct. The SLX mgl 70 is a special reel. It’s an effortless caster and excels at casting light lures but can handle flipping/pitching also. Can’t go wrong there, and in regards to comfort it’s the most palmable reel I’ve owned, very comfy! Lots of choices! 🐒

XPS baits
The Stik-O is my go to soft stick bait. I like the 3” for Ned’s, the 5” for t-rig and wacky and 6” for flipping. I use XPS walking baits and have some lipless too. I’ve bought a bunch of jigs and they work just fine too. I generally only buy this stuff when it’s on sale though.

I would at that price!

Some Magic of which I was unaware? Shimano Chronarch 50E
Those were some great reels, but does it come with an actual unicorn you can ride?

Suggestions for baitcaster tatula vs curado vs slx
The 150 has a dual bearing pinion gear so it will stay smoother longer with braid and heavy hook sets. The 100 is a nice reel also, I had 3 of them and wish I’d have kept them. Sounds like you found a good deal.

Suggestions for baitcaster tatula vs curado vs slx
Being a long time Shimano user and a more recent Daiwa user this is a great explanation of how these two brands perform against each other generally speaking. I have the older and newer Tatula SV and prefer the older for more general work, as well as the Fuego ct and Tatula ct. The Tatula 103SV is pretty overbraked and works fine but it’s more of a niche reel. The 150 is the best frog/A rig/flipping/punching reel I’ve ever had, I like it a lot! It’s so strong and you know it can take a beating, but its versatility like you stated, is what surprised me the most. The frame is large, but it fits my hand like a glove. I’m all about this thing.

Braid for Jig Main Line
I just believe that connection knot is just one more thing that can go wrong. I haven’t found braid to be any less abrasion resistant than mono or flouro. Mono may be the best for me around rocks, and braid of course for grass.
-
Braid for Jig Main Line
I would try straight braid, or green mono for that matter. Prove to yourself that it does or doesn’t cost you bites. I have seen flouro stick out like a sore thumb in bright sunshine, especially once it has worn in and stretched a bit.

Spinning rod bottom contact
I have never fished a St. Croix I couldn’t feel the bite with. I use 7’ m Triumph and 7’1 m mojo for my spinning rod needs. Legend tournament will be even better. You will get a Fuji reel seat and guides. My buddy bought a Trika T3 in 7’ medium that he put to work this last fall on smallies. I made some casts with it and admittedly it is very nice. Super light, balanced. Sensitive.

I am venting
Order a vessel p1 screwdriver on Amazon for $10 and give it a shot. Extractors look promising also. The other think you could do is drill a small pilot hole in the center of bit. Then get a left handed drill and carefully pull the screw out. Or, drill the head with a bit the size of the screw and twist the head of the screw off.

St. Croix BassX Action Question
I agree that the actions are the same. The triumphs are a bit softer in power in my experience, maybe a half power less.
-
Braid for Jig Main Line
For rocks and wood I use 15 lb Big Game in mean green. For vegetation I use 30lb braid. Sometimes I use both interchangeably without a hitch. I stay with the bait so slack line sensitivity is no issue. I also never fish deeper than 15 feet. I gave flouro a fair shake the last couple years, I am done trying it.

Should I get multiple rods and reel setups?
This is good advice.

Reel 'Collecting'
Other than one of my dads early 80s Shimano Bantam 10xg baitcasters and some B series Curados that I started on, none of my reels are collectibles to me. I keep one baitcaster and one spinning setup dedicated to bank fishing and kayak fishing. In my boat I keep 6-8 setups usually with some spares. I wouldn’t mind scaling it down some yet.
