  1. While we are on the topic of trailer tires, I was talking to a non-fisherman acquaintance who tows a trailer for his work frequently. He commented that you do not approach trailer tires like you do car tires and that regardless of ware or how much tread is left, it is advisable to replace them every five years. Is there any truth to this? My boat that I got in 2018 is the first boat that I have owned.
  2. This two years or so ago, I acquired a Curado 71 and a SLX DC. Prior to that, my best reels were Fuego CTs and a Lews Tournament MB. Last year, I started replacing various rods. I added a G Loomis E6X off the auction site and a ALX Zolo rod which took the place of a couple of Daiwa Aird X rods. In retrospect, I feel I should have done the rods first. They just seem to add more to the fishing experience.
  3. A soft bluegill style swim bait is in transit at the moment. I deserved a little more for Father’s Day.
  4. H2O in American Shad on a M BPS 7' Crank n' Stick with a Fuego CT 6.x and 12# Big Game. It will remain my go to square bill until I lose it because I cannot buy a back up here in California.
  5. Yeah, that is attractive. I have them wishlisted. Now I just need some place where they carry them to have enough other stuff that I want in stock to make a freight prepaid order.
  6. In addition to keeping you cooler, I find that it is less draining. When I get home from fishing, I find that I recover my energy faster if I cover up from the sun rather than using sun block lotion.
  7. Maybe it is because I still consider myself a novice, but I find his instructional content very interesting and informative. People have referenced his perpetual whining and controversy. All I have witness are his comments on Johnny Morris stuff, anti-electronics, and eating bass. What else has he done? My take is that he did not invent those controversies. They predate his YouTube channel, but they are contemporary topics of the bass fishing community. If he chooses to express himself on the topics, there is nothing wrong with it. By the same token, if people want to flame him in the comment section over his opinions, that is just fine too. It is the strength of that particular platform in my opinion.
  8. Ron Swanson: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Don't teach a man how to fish and you feed yourself. He's a grown man. Fishing isn't that hard." When I take friends out who are new to fishing, I try to help them the best I can. However, after the third or fourth time, I remind them Youtube has a tutorial on how to tie a palomar knot, hand them a spinning rod, some jig heads, and some 3 inch swimbaits.
  9. You made me curious so I went and weighed each. Caffeine Shad: 7.628 grams Super Fluke: 8.557 grams It is still possible that the Caffeine Shad is more dense. I do not have the tools to measure their volume. However, they look close to the same size to me. The Super Fluke does look slightly larger, but not much more than 12% larger. These are the next soft jerkbaits that I am going to try for the same reasons you are inquiring about. It is advertised as being heavier. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Big_Bite_Baits_Jerk_Minnow_10pk/descpage-BBBJERK.html
  10. If in doubt, eat them. Besides, have you seen the price of meat lately? I may start eating them even if there is no doubt.
  11. It's less dense so it is lighter on the spool. Also, it basically does not go bad so you never have to change out backing again.
  12. I have enough soft plastics to last a long time. I have reached the point where I question how many of them will get used. Hard baits are my issue, and where the Monkey gets me. The main problem is that it seems that I have outgrown brick and mortar stores. While they are still good for some terminal tackle, my taste have expanded past the mainstream manufacturers like Strike King and Rapala. When I stop by them to buy something like Gammy EWGs, I always look through the aisles for an impulse buy, but it never happens anymore where I walk out of their with anything tackle related that I did not stop in to buy.
  13. The Daiwa DX XH is rated for 3-10 oz. lures. The R2S S-Waiver 168 weighs 1 5/8 oz. You do not have any problem loading up the rod with it? I have also read that their are lure rating accuracy questions about the Daiwa DX like the OP mentioned and would like more clarity. The price point on the rod is very attractive for me especially if I get it on sale. I will not get hurt too bad if I decide this big swimbait thing is for the birds.
  14. This use to happen to me sometimes when I put too much tension on the line while spooling. I would also go with this being part of the spool process to a certain degree as well. My line anchor of choice is a particular cyclone fence at a nearby park that faces an open field.
  15. The whopper plopper was what I caught 90% of topwater bass on three or four years ago even though I threw all the regulars along with it. I still catch them with ploppers, but the numbers seem to have fallen in line with all the other top water lures.
  16. There is a mild debate about how long of a leader assuming that a leader should be used. Most people fall in the category of "as long as you can without the connection knot entering the spool". Others use leaders as long as 20'+.
  17. Either a fluke, Jerkbait, or small swimbait, which there is always one of the three tied on for me.
  18. Another complaint I have with the hook keeper on my Lews is that the lure is further off the shaft so it effectively takes up more space on the deck because trebles dangle more freely than if the lure were snug against the rod.
  19. So you’re basically saying I probably will not be that happy trying to multipurpose this rod for swim baits and deep cranks?
  20. In your opinion, can the heavy throw a 6XD even though it is officially rated for 2-8 ounces?
  21. Would you happen to have the MH version? The published lure ratings for the MH is 1-6 oz. While I want to dip my toe into SB, I am not sure that I want to dedicate a setup strictly for it. I was wondering what your thoughts on this rod being multipurposed as a deep cranking rod as well as for swim baits. That way I can dabble in both.
  22. I switch out my mono reels 2-3 times a season. Other than that, I use braid with a leader. I figure I lose less than a foot each time I put on a new leader so there is a greater than 0% chance those reels will never get changed out again while I am alive. If I recall correctly, the last braid reel I changed out was because I wanted to put it on another rod for a different technique. The time before that, it was because I wanted to test the visibility of neon green vs. high-vis yellow. We will see though. The Monkey might catch my eye with some new and improved line I can not resist.
  23. Even with a FG knot 40#/15# is a decent size knot to wind into the spool. With that said, I regularly wind 30#/20# into the spools of my baitcasters. I never put 100% into my casts though. I take a golf swing mentality and probably use 70% or less on every cast. Have you considered a different reel?

Any names? The only meaningful penalty for something like this is public shaming.
