  1. I had never fished jigs before last Sunday either. So I fished one over some rockpiles. They weren't real rough, but they scratched all the paint off the bottom. And, I only fished it for about 10 minutes. Is this common, or did I get cheap jigs?
  2. What if they only want plastics. The search baits aren't gonna find them. I assume that unless I happen to get a gut feeling to throw a plastic, that I will not find them. Also, how do you match conditions to baits? i.e. what water conditions to throw a spinner/buzzer/crank, and when to go natural or bright.
  3. I have heard lots about search baits. But, I am unsure how to use them. Most of my success has been in farmlike ponds. So, I will sooner or later find them using plastics and the occasional spinner/buzzer. Well, now that I have a working boat, I am starting to fish larger lakes and rivers. How should I use a search bait, and what should I use? I hear people saying, if the fish won't bite the fast bait, slow down use plastics. But, I hear you cannot search practically with plastics. What do I do when the crank or buzz bite is not on? Basically give me the basics on search baits. BTW, if it helps, I do have a fishfinder, and it should be installed before my next fishing trip (Sunday) . All these questions from someone who is actually planning to fish tourneys next year. :-/
  4. You cannot put it into gear with the muffs. The motor has to be run under load or it will rev higher than safe.
  5. For the interior coating, you want something flexible. The boat flexes, and sooner or later it will crack with herculiner. We are pleased with TUFF COAT from BPS or cabelas.
  6. My 1974 15 foot aluminum Lund has a similar shade of goshawful yellow. Here is a pic from about a year before we got it. When we got it, it had been sitting under some sappy trees that dropped leaves sticks etc. in it. We built a new trailer from scratch, gutted it, and right now it has a new deck and foam and consoles are mostly built and are waiting for installation. Also has a 1971 50 horse Johnson hanging on the back. What color do you think we should paint it? The interior is gonna be a gray, as that is the color of the TUFF COAT we put over the deck. We figured it looked better having the same color all through the interior.
  7. Doing it in the can full of water is fine, and safer than the muffs. You cannot put it into gear on the muffs, you can with the can. It will blow some water out, just make sure you are not anywhere the water will hurt something. Also, run it with the cover off. The exhaust may accumulate in the can, and by taking the cover off, it will be able to get cleaner air, than trying to reburn exhaust.
  8. I know I pushed the 4 hp deluxe a lot, almost any old Johnnyrude will be a motor to swear by. There are many on ebay right now, and you could get an old running one, then in the winter when you aren't fishing you could work on restoring it cosmetically. With an old 50's seahorse you will be getting lots of complements on the lake.
  9. I am not sure why yall hate 30 mph winds. Last fishing trip we had them and we were in a 12 foot vee with 4 hp. The waves were higher than our freeboard, so we would ride a wave up, then take one over the bow on the way down, then riding the next one up. Try loading it on a trailer, that has no guide ons, with a 35 mph tailwind. That is a different story though. But, I have never hated a fishing trip. I only get to go once every 2 months or so, so I make the best of each one. Haven't caught anything since October. Rain, wind, etc etc. Doesn't fase me. Were it to, I wouldn't have been fishing since July.
  10. Go with the aluminum without a doubt. If you have ever searched for a boat restoration project ( I have ) you will see how fiberglass deteriorates. Plus, it is heavier. And working with fiberglass is a duck. And, the wood inside it can rot. Stick with the aluminum.
  11. I wouldn't get a B&S motor. That is just a lawnmower engine mounted on a lower unit. It is real noisy, and the water will magnify noise. Also, it is a one banger. You are going to want two cylinders. Other wise, it is gonna have a lot of vibration. Once you drive a two banger, you won't want to go back to a one. My four horse eats almost nothing in the way of gas. Since we got it at Christmas, we have run it WOT for about 7 hours and used 3 gal of fuel. You can get a good used Johnnyrude 4 or 5 for a reasonable price. I have a 4 hp deluxe (not selling) and would recommend a Johnson or 'rude to anybody. The small motors last forever and beyond. I can get many to vouch on that too. In fact, there is someone selling a 4 hp deluxe on Atlanta Craigslist right now. The deluxe is better because it has a reverse gear instead of just turning the motor around. I will PM it to you.
  12. Johnson/Evinrude by far. But, my favorite motor has to be a 1956 Johnson 5.5 seahorse. Reliable motor, and classic look. Don't know why, but that motor just calls my name.
  13. Thanks, later on last night, I found my younger sisters piano book, and it showed the treble clef notes. So, I went and matched each note on the music, to the letter note in the book, and then write that letter note on a base clef bar. I checked it on panamokas post and it seemed to work. Thanks.
  14. I think he has a jackplate already, just didn't say it as a jackplate. Read this. I think he is talking about a jackplate.
  15. I play trombone in 8th grade top concert band. Our school band has always gotten top marks in the district wide large group performance evaluation. Well, my scout troop is getting band members to play for the church. We have 3 trombones, but only one person with the melody. Since this is a simple song, and the other players are younger, and less experienced I got chosen (I volunteered) to help with the melody part. But, it is in treble clef, and I play base clef. I know that you just move up or down a couple of notes, but am not sure. Could you please help get the flute music into bass clef that a trombone can read. Thanks in advance.
  16. Here are the pics of what I found online.
  17. Trust me, there is no way to get into business doing that. I am restoring an old '74 Lund, and I frequent a restoration site. You would be hard pressed to make a profit. Most people feel extremely lucky just to break even.
  18. Also, never use banana boat sunscreen. Seems dangerous just by reading the label. ;D
  19. It is an old sailors superstition that it is bad luck. I personally don't take them because I cannot catch fish as it is. Don't need any extra bad luck.
  20. RRRRRRRRRR!! Here I am, in the Ga foothills, 15 minutes away from allatoona, and about 10 to the river, and I still can't fish. :'( :'( Man, this ain't right!! :'(

Just go a couple of pages back and look at the "lets see your tackle" post. At least that is what I think it is called. It showed how a lot of people organize their tackle. People with unbelievably high amounts of tackle as well. Many great organizational tips. Personally, I use 360 trays. Right now, they are getting near the capacity. I have one, for hard plastics, one for terminal tackle, and one for wire baits and jigs. All my soft plastics stay in the top compartment of the box. When a box gets full, I will get another, and separate out again. example: My fullest box is the wire baits, so when I get more, the spinners/buzzers will go in one, and the jigs, etc, will go in the other. Also, get a soft box. I have a hard box, and it was great for shore fishing, (built in chair) but with the boat a soft one is better.
  22. You can make little dividers using a paper rack from staples. I found where someone did that somewhere online. If I find it I will post a pic.
  23. What is ya'lls opinion on catching spawning bass? I have heard some say that it puts undo stress on the fish and it is not right. Others say that they catch spawning fish every year, and there are often TV shows catching spawners. What do yall think?
  24. What other types of cover would yall look for? We noticed one other guy fishing toward the middle of deep coves. But, our sonar hasn't arrived so I didn't know what cover he was fishing. I think I can master spring/summer fishing with practice, and small tips, but winter fishing is beyond my grasp. And, I kept reading, and all I learned is what the baitmonkey should get next, and not how to use the stuff.
  25. What are we talking about? :-?
