  1. I would stick with a 10 or 12 foot jon boat. Should be lighter, and it is easier to fish from one of them than the plastic boat. The seats are spaced out better. Plus, the jon has more room for expansion. It is easier to add a motor or a storage deck(deck extending one of the seats back 18 or so inches to use for storage. Since it is not used as a casting deck, and leaves plenty or room to stand on the bottom deck, there are no stability concerns.) And, they never die. If you get a whole bunch of leaks, just coat the interior with this product called Gluv-it and your good to go. I got this from an old race car engineer. "Remember, aluminum wont rust, bust or collect dust. The ultimate metal"
  2. SHUT UP!! ;D What I don't know, cannot hurt me.
  3. If ya have a tubing bender layin' around, you are in luck. If not, you still are in luck. Just go to anywhere that sells stock steel (not lowes or home depot. I mean as a main business) Many scrap yards also sell new steel, even though they look like just scrapyards. Most steelyards also will work and weld steel for ya. Most have a tubing bender. Get some 1 1/2 inch square or round stock. Get em to bend to a 90 degrees, (or whatever ya need) and attach to trailer with U-bolts. Or, get em to weld them to your trailer. Now, you just need rollers, and you can do them yourself. If ya use U bolts, and you have to crisscross them diagonally, make sure one has the cutout to go over the other. And, take into consideration that it will take a wider opening in the U as the diagonal distance is longer than the across distance. And, there are round and square U bolts for different types of tubing.
  4. STOP SAYING THAT CART!! I just bought a 4 year old one. My wish is, that since I have never operated, much less been on a boat with one, I won't know what I am missing. Then, when I can afford another one, I will get something better, and look back on the PD. But, until then, I won't know what I am missing. Funny thing is, another forum that I am a member of, one centered more on boating in general than bass fishing, everyone says good things about them. On here, they are all bad. Keep in mind, these are hardcore bass, crappie, and walleye anglers.
  5. I actually think that is somewhat of a good thing. Gives the more mom and pop stores a fighting chance. Many of them sell more of the oddball Japanese stuff. Since I won the item from JBC in the drawing, it has made me look more into the smaller online tackle shops. I figured I may as well buy the senkos I need from JBC instead of BPS as long as they are not much more than 50 cents a bag more. Well, I'll be danged, but they are 50 cents a bag less. Well. I figure that I need to look into lots of the mom and pop stores and see what other good deals I can find. Mainstream stuff, I stay with BPS and Wallyworld, but the oddball stuff is cheaper other places. BTW. I ordered a 56 dollar order last night from BPS, and their site was screwing up a lot. The catalog item number did not match some of the sale objects. It froze a lot too.
  6. I know exactly how yall feel. I am 14 and my parents are 52. We dug ourselves into a couple holes, so to speak, so finding time or money to do things is impractical at best. I can live without the money as I do make money occassionally, and we do have 2 boats. One of which we got a 1/3 of its value, and the other we are restoring. Unfortunately we don't have the time. We started it last May, and it is about halfway done. It sits under the tarp for 2 - 3 months with NO work getting done. I also don't fish much, because if we do manage to squeeze in time, it will rain or be real windy, and dad doesn't like wind or rain. So no trip. Also, my hobbies are only ones I can do with him. Fishing, boating/restoration, small arms shooting, archery and working in the wood/metal shop. And, he never has any time for that. I don't like video games, or even hanging out with people at school. In fact, I dislike that. I would rather be alone, than with people my age (for the most part). The only thing that is consistent is scouting, and it is a drag, because I have to deal with and be around people my age and younger. This goes back to the not liking to be with people my age. The majority of which are highly imature and come from households that give them whatever the he!! they want. And they expect me to cater to their demands. Hello? I haven't caught a single fish since October, and that may be because I have only been out 3 times since then. Less than 12 hours. And of course, my dream is to start fishing tourneys soon. I was hoping to start next february, but that hope has been dashed. Cannot learn anything without on the water experience. And of those 12 hours on the water, there are usually bad conditions, as it doesn't get windy till after we are on the water, and if I am driving, we aren't heading back to the ramp. Of course, if the fish aren't biting, dad likes to just cruise up into the narrow neck of the long coves or creek channels just to explore. So even though I have 12 hours on the water since october. Actual fishing time is about 3. I cannot wait till I can drive. And there has been talk of changing the driving age to 17 in Georgia. Ohh man, I swear...
  7. My 12 foot Vee gets pushed with a 4 hp Evinrude. It pushes us (Dad - 225# Me 140#) at an estimated 4 - 5 mph or so. although, I think you can put more on that boat without trouble. The rating is based on size, and not strength or anything else for that matter. Round here, jons are always overpowered, and never much trouble.

Can I hop on the mook rover with yall? Please! Please! ;D ;D We will work out the T-shirt later. Lets see what dad says about his honor role student spending money on a Mook shirt. Or about even mookifying myself.
  9. Yeah, but there are plenty of motors from 1955 or so, that can still run as good as many newer ones. Plus, I doubt many modern motors are going to last 55+ years, and still show no sign of dying. Plus, the torture that these old motors take, can not be endured by newer ones. I have heard stories of OLD OMC motors being submerged in SALT water for 36 hours, and then after a spark plug change and all fluids being changed, it fires right up. 40 years of oil has it advantages.
  10. Would that local distributer have wholesale prices, or is that a higher than wholesale price. My dads shop uses interstate batteries exclusively, so he can get them for wholesale price. Is wholesale the 109?
  11. Have you ever been there at 2:00 in the morning? Ohhh man!

I switched to firefox last year. Never goin' back to IE. Virus protection is better. Faster, and updates are always arriving so it shouldn't be long until your music is compatable.
  13. Get him to replace the impeller and possibly the whole water pump. Although, it is not hard to do this yourself. All you need is a good OEM manual, and if you want to do this, I will PM you the name of a boating forum with LOTS of people who rip down and rebuild all types outboards as a hobby. Check your PMs.
  14. BPS has it 299 too. Also have the longer shaft for 5 bucks more. 325.88 includes shipping, and if you click on it through the banner at the top of the site, you are helping support this site.
  15. IMHO, you should get a used OMC from about 10 - 15 years ago. But, if you have to waste money on new, I would go with an ETEC.
  16. NOOO! Aluminum and fiberglass flex at different rates. What I have heard is the best stuff is Gluv-it. You coat the inside with it, and it will seal all leaks, and prevent many leaks from starting.
  17. When you login, the little orange box at the top of the page should say, Hey your name here, you have ___ messages, __ are new. Click on the number of messages and you can view your inbox.
  18. Sorry, in my haste, I left out one crucial part. The fact that the elec steer motors seem to have an outer shaft, which is fixed, and an inner shaft which rotates. Correct me if I am wrong. The outer shaft must be thicker, and it is not made to spin. What I think you would need is a bushing, to go around the motor shaft, and then clamp into the mount. That way, the motor can swivel in the bushing, and yet still be clamped down. Just use the height clamp from the transom mount to keep it from sliding down. I think that this sort of thing should work and there are a whole bunch of MG gator mounts on ebay right now. Although, the ideal thing would be a mount from a hand controlled MK edge. It is made to do just what you want. You may be able to order one of those from Minn Kota, or see if there is a TM repair shop that may have one in the corner, or on a wrecked boat, something like just the mount should still be intact.
  19. Some of the higher price bass boat seats are known for there extreme comfort to those with bad backs. You can get a good used one for a reasonable price. Heck, I am sure Muddy can catch you a great deal. ;D
  20. I think it is just for marketing. Kinda sounds like a 38 spl handgun. I think they advertised it as an 88 spl as opposed to the 90 which had VRO.
  21. A 70# has the best efficiency of any 12v or 24v. It can run 3 times as long as the 50, but using only twice the batteries. As far as endurance, the MK maximizer can help a lot. You see, conventional motors use the same amount of power whether set to fast or slow. If on low, the extra power is changed into heat, which can also fry the motor sooner. The maximizer only uses the power needed for the speed setting and therefore batteries will last longer.
  22. They make hand control bow mount motors. If you already have a transom, what you need to do is turn the head around to make it bow mount. Then, go on ebay, and keep looking untill you find a bow mount. Buy one, slip the motor in, tighten the clamp, and you have a bow mount motor. walla!
  23. If you don't have a shearpin, there could be major damage to the LU or prop on contact with stump or sumpin'. Do you carry 3 or 4 extra props with you through the stump beds? Alum. ones are not cheap. For my 4, they are 50 bucks a pop. For my 50, they are about 200 a pop. Not exactly disposable. And, if you are running a SS prop, a stump could stop, but not break a prop, and could damage the LU gearcase.

I have gotten them ever since I was 3, and I am 14 now. Although, mine generally happen every spring and fall, but my spring one hits in the middle of february, while every one else happens now. I scoff in the face of pollen, and until it rained the other day, the whole town was yellow with the stuff. But, mid Feb, and I am almost dead to the world.
  25. Hank Williams Jr. Montgomery Gentry I listen only to country and them two are my favorites even though I do like a lot more. I listen to both old and new country. Leonard Skynard (spl) C. W. McCall. Trace Adkins etc. etc.
