  1. I've got a Cuda Clipper that has a little file on the back for those pinch situations. It's pretty handy, it has a pick if your line tie has too much paint and another pick for birds nest that's not sharp at the end and I think a tool to tie nail knots. I paid maybe $10 for it. https://www.cudabrand.com/products/snips-wire-cutters-pliers/cuda-clipper.html
  2. has anyone left a Elaztech trailer in one of these boxes for an extended period of time? Say a month. I have a Plano Hydro-Flo as my jig box, I liked it because I could air out all my jigs. Problem is that my Elaztech trailers warped it pretty bad.
  3. Lite Trout or Bone, are pretty bold patterns. I would grab a Perch as BB86 mentioned above and I would consider a translucent option with some flash, like Hitch/Crystal Minnow/Terminator.
  4. If he's a member here: Ninja edit: @Paul Roberts I'm a big fan of your content. You're like the Bob Ross of Fishing videos. No disrespect, nothing but admiration.
  5. From a non-pro angle, there's a long list of great YT personalities: KeepinItReelFishing (Karl is hands down my favorite YT personality, in-depth breakdowns on gear and tackle, sportspal user) Tackle Advisor (reel teardowns, maintenance, reviews and comparisons) Online Outdoorsman (kayaking, technique specific) The Nature of Fishing (in depth knowledge for every fishing situation, older guy with straight facts, no sizzle) Salt Strong (reviews, maintenance, rigging videos) i_fish (reviews, teardowns, in-depth look at gear etc) BassResource.com Jekyll Productions - custom painting
  6. Yup, mine arrived the same way. Mine was a 4x4 box, luckily Canada Post babied it, it had 2 creases and the guides pierced through the plastic but no other damage. I would buy a Dobyns again from Amazon, my last one came packed from Dobyns facility in Texas, in a hard card board tube, pvc capped, rod wrapped in plastic and 5 sections of bubble wrap. It was bulletproof. I've held on to it, just in case I need to ship a rod in the future.
  7. My wife took delivery on my new jig rod and echoed my concerns on the dodgy rod packaging. Probably the worst I've ever seen from Amazon. So far I like the feel of the winn grips, still subject to how they'll perform under certain weather conditions. The rod is surprisingly light compared to my dobyns fury, which I think is 6.6oz, it hides it's weight with good balance. I've only used fuji reel seats and this one isn't much different other than a longer trigger. I also like the softex plastic used on the trigger. Overall can't friggin wait to get out on the water.
  8. If you're ever concerned about the reviews on Amazon or Best Buy or Walmart. Copy the URL, go to https://www.fakespot.com and paste the retailer site URL into their search bar. It will analyze that webpage based on the time of the reviews and how many were entered etc. It's the easiest way to determine counterfeit reviews. If you're like me, addicted to tackle but like to be frugal about it or don't like paying for shipping or getting hit by customs, I think Amazon can be great. If you weren't aware, one of Amazon's biggest tricks is that their prices fluctuate on a daily basis, sometimes twice a day. I urge any Amazon shopper to check out camelcamelcamel.com, it's similar to fakespot.com in that you need the URL from Amazon, but what it does is checks the pricing history of item from Amazon and their 3rd party retailers. You can add those URLs to a list and have camelcamelcamel track those products for you and send you an email when the product has hit your desired price/amount. They even have a Chrome/Firefox extension, so you can analyze while you shop with an overlay. I am not affiliated with either of these websites, I just like passing on good information and a deal to any fellow angler.
  9. This guy is awesome, down to earth, family man and his vlogs are great. I'm not a fan of Scott, but love Rolland. He's got soo many tricks up his sleeve and I love his DIY projects. I catch Wheeler on *** all the time, he's good too. Nothing beats Bob Izumi tho haha
  10. I prefer the Fuego over the Tatula. I don't care for the shiny finish or the bearings in the handle. I bought both at the same time and the spinning the knobs is the same on both reels. (bearings v. bushings.) I'll be buying Fuegos only going forward, super cheap reel that's deserves that underrate title.
  11. SMB - 6.01LB LMB - 5.60LB
  12. Good choice! They're tried and true reels and pretty d**n smooth for the price point. I forget the differences but a Sahara is the exact same reel save for a few components
  13. Ohhh, ice out up here could be late March beginning of April. Crappie would be a good species to target, we've accidentally caught them on 2.8s on jighead.
  14. It's painful. Thankfully we target other species starting in April. Legal season starts 4th started in June. Esox is a month earlier.
  15. I'd kill for 79 more days.. as of today 152 days to go.
  16. Had one spit up a full shad and half a shiner. Another smallmouth came up and grabbed the half and a gull dive bombed the other. Whenever you see birds diving in open water it's time to move. Every time I've seen an osprey, gulls or blue heron diving shallows or channels, there's always bass to be found.
  17. You should give the Ripstop a go. narrower profile but stops on a dime.
  18. After watching Bob Izumi drop shot with a 7' 6" rod, all I want are longer rods, but I kayak a lot - so I've maxed out at 7' 3". Back to Bob, he was sight fishing clear water conditions and was detecting bites with how fast the rod loading up. Fishing light braid to a 6lb fluoro leader, the longer rod acted as a massive cushion to keep that bass pinned. My ned rig is a Dobyns Fury 703sf witha 2500 Sedona reel - 12lb braid to 8lb test fluoro or I move up to 12lb coploy if I'm around heavy cover/docks.
  19. As others have mentioned, using braid and reels with graphite frame/stem - I would backoff on your drag. This was a big concern for me as I use all my gear for bass and pike. We regularly hook into large pike out bass fishing and I wanted the right tool for the job. BUT I also wanted light gear. Before I landed on the Fuego, I checked out a lot of reel reviews to determine what the gear was made out of.. brass, mix alloy etc. On top of that, a number of reviews have those lower end Daiwa reels (Legalis, Exceller, Fuego) that aren't made of Zaion have their frames flex or the stem bend. I've heard there's even some flex in the Tatula's under heavy load. I have the same problem with my Sedona. So, plan is to go easy on the drag knowing there's a high potential for flexing, if I lock it down to tight.
