1/2 hour of awesomeness
Beauty fish brother, Georgian Bay is heaven on earth. I caught my PB smallie in Collins Bay, and we do really well in Deep Bay. We should try to connect next summer when the ice is out.

Is this normal for someone new to bass fishing?
My in-laws got me into fishing about 4-5 years ago. I remember my brother in law picking out my first rig at BPS cause I didn't have a clue what to look for nor did I care.. That summer was a blast but I got frustrated quick when I had to ask questions about everything. That winter, I dove in, learned how to tie my own knots, rig my own baits, figure out different actions and the difference between rod action/reel speed/lb test and discovered BR. My BILs have been fishing since they were kids, and they might have years of knowledge and tackle but it means nothing when my PBs are bigger than theirs. The addiction is real, the bait monkey is my friend, too bad seasons over and I gotta wat till the 4th Saturday in June to get back to bass fishing. Thank god for lake trout and northern pike

Finesse plastic worms
Stickbaits for me in general are a panic bait, I caught 7 lmbs with that rig mid-summer one outing around heavy lillypads while my buddies couldn't catch a thing. They were quick to call it a day when there was no bites on ketitechs and topwaters. I clowned them hard cause they got "too much pride" and won't fish stickbaits.

Free shipping $50+
FedEx would be my preferred method or USPS. UPS is so expensive, $25 USD to ship + brokerage fees. The USPS method I think everything gets taken care of upfront. Thanks Mike, I've oogled your site a number of times, the only thing holding me back was the shipping costs.

Hooks for Stanley Top Toad?
Mustad KVD Grip-pin, I don't think they make a double tho.

Tackle Depot - The Canadian Tackle Warehouse.
Decent site, could use more variety and some bigger household names. I had a look before I spent my $$$ at TW.

What line do you use with which technique (crank, jigs, topwater...)
Straight Braid most of the time. 50lb PP Maxcurato Braid to FC on my spinning out fits. 12lb Sufix Nanobraid to 10-12lb FC leader. Looking to test Sunline SX1. Braid to Co-poly or Mono on my treble hook baits - I've lost a number of lures to a Northern drive by. 40lb PP Maxcurato to 12lb YZH or Sufix Siege. Braid to titanium leader for 1oz+ swimbaits, 130 WP and all my other big baits. 50lb PP Maxcurato, also might explore 50lb FC leader and crimping.

Snell or no snell and worm weight or flipping weight.
This. Cutting the excess braid off a trokar flipping hook after snelling is a pain in the ass.

Fury 705CB for sure, when I handled the XT I thought it was heavier.- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I didn't feed the monkey but my brother in law gifted me a 7' mh Shimano Zodias spinning rod last night. So the monkey showed up at my door step this morning yakking about a Tatula LT.- So I'm looking to...
That's awesome, I've had an unusual turn of events. TLDR: I received a 7' MH Shimano Zodias spinning rod today for free from my brother in law. New thread :I'm looking for a new spinning reel. So earlier this fall, I watched him get a massive window knot on the water. He proceed to try and quickly pick it but didn't notice his slack line proceeded to get caught in the trolling motor. His reel starts singing, the trolling motor joins in and beforeyyou know it, his spinning rod starts crumbling to pieces at each guide in a matter of seconds. It was a devastating scene. So he sent the handle back to Shimano for warranty claim; total hail Mary. He explains he broke fishing and Shimano agreed to proceeded with a replacement but somehow they opened 2 POs for the claim, which we thought 1 for the claim and the other to issue his replacement. I said to him that he'd have to have a horse stuffed up his ass for them to ship him 2 rods in return. Well, turns out they were separate claims, and 2 separate rod tubes were on his door step. They shipped him 2 brand new MHF Zodias rods. He's been fishing his whole life and he always preaches that he only needs a few steps and I'm on the total opposite end, the more the merrier. For some reason he felt compelled to give me one of them and claimed he was "paying it forward" because he didn't think the claim would have gone through in the first place. I didn't know what to say, other than thank you and are you crazy. So looks like I'm looking for a new spinning reel now and this thread has a new purpose.- So I'm looking to...

... feed the bait monkey soon. For most of us north of the border, the water is going hard and I've already busted out my snowblower. I haven't been out fishing in over a month and I'm already thinking about next season and new tactics. This past year, I bought a new spinning rod, Dobyns Fury 703 that was added to my 2 rod arsenal; a Fury 735c (single hook / swimbait rod) and AG Ike Delay 7' (reaction and topwater). I love the finesse side of bass fishing, lighter tackle, lighter lines and more exhilaration after a couple of seasons of strictly power fishing reaction style presentations. I really enjoy dragging jigs and ned rigs, swimming jigs/chatterbaits, and throwing swimbaits; i just don't toss as many cranks and ripbaits as before. Due to my lack of set ups, I double duty all of them and it can be annoying retying leaders and baits. I want to add one full set up and/or replace the Ike Delay with a more versatile rod. Should I buy a dedicated swimbait rig, to eleviate my 735c to single hook presentations only? Only caveat is that I'm torn about getting a treble hook SB rod vs a Hudd type SB rod. I won't spend more than a $40-50 on a swimbait. Should I buy a versatile MH rig, so I can still jig/chatterbait/paddle tails? Should I buy a casting Medium rig, like a 733/703c, so I can still finesse jig/paddle tails/shakeyhead but also still use cranks/jerkbaits/topwater? Think power finesse rod. I'm going through some lifestyle changes, so I may consider a St. Croix Triumph, Daiwa Ardito or AG Ike Travel rod for traveling. I mostly fish from a boat or angling kayak I do bank fish from time to time I really want to buy a float tube I might hold out till spring to buy or load up next week for Black Friday/TW.- I've been
Give him as much space as possible and keep your head on a swivel. As AJAY mentioned, you'll be finishing shallow and in my experience in no more than 10' of water. Fly Fishing is a riot, you should give it a try. I went out with a supplier who fly fishes exclusively, he took me to a private camp with stocked ponds and it's was an exhilarating experience. Caught a half dozen brookies on my first outing.- CHEAP BASS LURES THAT WORK
Cost to acquire might not be cheap but the value of Elaztech baits, from a durability stand point is leaps and bounds better than any plastic bait out there. I've got some TRDs that are 2 years old and I rarely need to restock. If I'm buying new, it's to mess with a new pattern.- Dobyn's Colt and It's Sensitivity
I own a Fury 703sf and I really enjoy using the rod from the boat/dock but not so crazy about it from the kayak. It has to do with how dobyns designs the grip on his spinning rods, Gary seems to prefer the palm grip where the reel seat arm fits between your index and middle finger. Some like to hold the reel seat arm in between different fingers or in my case when I'm fishing from the kayak, I find myself with the reel seat arm between my ring and pinky finger. Which means that my index, and middle finger are gripping the blank and not cork/foam/etc. There's many times where I've missed a hookset because my fingers or hands have slipped because they're wet. I can think back to my first spinning rod, an Ugly Stik and they have a 2-3" cork grip above the reel seat which was easy to grab and jam the hook home. This was my 1st season with the 703sf and I might just buy some Winn grip tape and make my own grip. RE: Colt Series, the guides are probably a little cheaper, you're getting no cork on the reel seat and the blank is likely stiffer and less sensitive than the Fury. If it was me I would use the Colt series for all treble hook applications where sensitivity isn't a huge requirement. I would reco pairing braid or fluoro if you go this route. The SLX is getting good reviews, I would choose that over a Colt, but a Fury over the SLX. Like others have said, hold out 2 more weeks for BF and you can probably get a good deal on a Fury at TW.- Looking for a new rod for my son.
I concur on a number of the recos, if it was my kid (she can be a lil clumsy), I would go with Fenwick HMG solely on their limited lifetime warranty. I think you can get these for $99 at TW.- Ned rig in muddy water?
I've got iron stained water up here, which has visibility on sunny days and I have moderate success with the ned rig. I'm better with it from the kayak vs. the boat; I think I fish a lot slower from the kayak. Are you fishing chocolate milk muddy waters? I would stick with bolder colours, pearls, chartreuse etc. - Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
