Can I use a medium heavy rod to drop shot for bass?
Yes, it's called power finesse

Bait that you set aside
Jitterbug / Hulapopper.. when I upgraded gear they got left behind, replaced with a hollow frog, pencil/rover and poppers.

Anyone got reviews on the VMC Swimbait jig? I'm not crazy about the line tie, wish it was closer to the nose. C-Rig, save some tackle for the rest of us

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Placed order last night with my left over Christmas money. I desperately needed a finesse spinning rod, pulled the trigger on a Dobyns Fury 703sf to match my 2500 Sedona. Hopefully it balances nicely, I'm going to experiment with Sufix NanoBraid on this rig. I picked up a 600 yards of 10lb YZH for my reaction bait rod. After doing some searching and seeing a post on old tackle that still works a day ago, I picked up a couple Bladed Beetle Spins, some Roboworm zipper grubs and 1/4oz Owner round head Jigs. I'll post pics when everything arrives.

Bought a couple of Arashi cranks: flat side, silent square bill and deep in Blue back Herring and some Berkley split ring pliers. The cranks were cheap as chips in the Bargain Cave at my local Cabela's. Looking at adding a Fury 703sf for finesse tactics, inline spinners and 2 treble jerkbaits. Debating whether I should use my Shimano Sedona or feed the bait monkey and pair it with a new Daiwa LT reel.

Spools
thank you! I was hoping for a domestic purchase and not going overseas.

Spools
oooo that's handy. Could you push me in the direction of "after market", maybe a site sponsor?

Spools
I'm looking for some additional spools that I can carry with me on the boat or to the bank. I have a few set ups and there's instances when I want to switch to straight fluoro/mono from straight braid and I don't want to have to respool. Specifically Daiwa spools, casting and spinning and Shimano spinning.

Pit Boss Colors
Try Amazon - I picked up some Skywalkers last year for my white swimjigs. I might drop shot with them too, as I accidentally got the 3" version and not the 4". Also great trailer for a chatterbait.

Daiwa MAGFORCE -Z Braking System : Spool Tension Knob Relationship ?
For Fuego CT or Tatula CT (I have both), I minimize the side to side play, don't kill it and start at 15 on the brakes. I've prefer the Tatula around 6-7 and the Fuego about 2-4, as you get more experienced thumbing the spool I think you'll land around 5-7 and start dropping to gain distance. Whippy-casts are guaranteed to birds nest. TBH, fluoro always seems to causes more bird's nests then braid and braid is way easier to get out.

Dobyns Fury / Rod power question
It's all good. You got an awesome rod that will do a ton of applications. Where did you find it for $79? I saw today that the Dobyns site increased the prices to $120 and the SB models to $130 Ninja edit: Do you plan on using braid? If not a mono or fluoro might be more forgiving for treble hook baits

Dobyns Fury / Rod power question
Gotcha, shorter the rod the better. I've tried to jig with my 735 from the kayak and it was definitely too much length to land a fish. I thought I saw top water as a secondary technique on their site. My bad. I would definitely go with the 704/734. I wanted the 734 originally, but the one shop that carries Dobyns rods in my area had a 735c or 703c. If I did it all over again, my ideal set up would be: 702sf, 704/734c and 705cb.

Dobyns Fury / Rod power question
I didn't see it mentioned, do you fish from a boat or the bank? I have the 735 and for me the extra 3" makes it more of a challenge to walk certain non-frog baits vs using my 7" rod. I've used a 6' 6" rod as well but I felt like I was ripping the hooks out because it wouldn't load up properly. I would lean more towards the 704, but you want to crank with this rod too? Maybe consider the 705CB, was that ever mentioned when you called CS @ Dobyns?

The bait monkey didn't get it was one of our own. I blame you @Abby debating between the 703sf, 806sb or 704c. Anyone have experience with the new Tatula Shakeyhead spinning rod? More sensitive than a Fury?

Were those done on blanks or repaint of actual MB S-Cranks? If blanks, where'd you buy them? Predator or Dinger?

too bad, I can barely find them in stores, had to get them of Amazon. Bang! and Yum make some quality baits that don't break the bank.
