  1. I actually did that over the winter. I sold all but 6 of the setups I actually regularly use, and I'm making it a point to only buy tackle/lures I actually use a lot and have confidence in instead of buying a little of this and that and this thing I might try or might not. It got to be out of hand and didn't really make sense monetarily for me to have so much stuff as a yak/wade/bank angler. 2 spinning, 4 casting, one main backpack of tackle/lures to be restocked as needed...
  2. My secondary hobby is 8 and 9 Ball pool. I'll never forget the time a guy came in to play with a Bud Light cue. KK reminds me of a Bud Light cue.
  3. I lost my PB LMB and SMB on back to back casts last summer. Sickening. Trebles....
  4. A thread dedicated to the times our partner has hooked us. ? My fishing partner and good friend and my son and I had our first outing of the season on a beautiful day in Illinois today. The only thing we caught was wind burn until my buddy caught me while I was picking out a backlash for my son. I felt a smack on my leg through my thin sweatpants followed by "oh ****!" I looked down and a KVD 2.5 was sticking to me. At that moment I do believe I excreted bodily fluids. Somehow, however, it didn't hook my flesh and skin. I looked at my son and shook my head and said, "see what happens when you don't thumb your spool?" It was good to knock the rust off. This was actually my first time out since I got sick about 8 months ago. ? *Actually I did fish once last year while sick.
  5. I smoke 'em at the dam here on Black/Chart KVD 1.5s at night, but I also smoke 'em on them during the day...
  6. I make it simple. I measure from the guide closest to the reel all the way to the tip and then I tie; that's my leader.
  7. Great for DS and Ned Rigs, Wacky Rigs too depending on where.
  8. 4lb YZH (breaking strength of 7.5lbs)
  9. Fenwick Eagle with a Pflueger President $120 total retail, but you can usually get the Presidents for less. If you want I have a Pflueger President combo that I got to keep in my car but I snapped the tip off of it and I don't have a use for the reel. I can send it to you for nothing if you want, then you can just worry about a rod. Maybe an HMG if they have an UL version idk.
  10. I've never used it. I don't even know my own state's laws on the matter but I've been told it's banned in some states.
  11. Largie, smallie, bucket mouth, green bass, brown bass. Whoops that belongs in the other thread
  12. NDYakAngler destroys river smallies on this jig in Minnesota. 20"+ regularly. I fish them in ponds sometimes and they do really well. I use Baby Rage Craws and TRD CrawZ as trailers. 3/16oz is my normal size.
  13. It's not unusual for me to burn through 6+ squarebills on the river dams in one day but the reward is worth it.
  14. Unbelievably tragic. I won't even let my son fish river dams with me on foot because all it takes is one slip.
  15. The $9.99 Disney Frozen 2 spincast combo at Walmart is an amazing 3/4oz jig rod.
  16. Sorry! It's always made me cringe. Can't help it. The good news is my opinion doesn't matter.
  17. I did not know it was pronounced Hook Sort of different, but I can't stand when someone calls a fishing rod a fishing pole. Something about that makes me imagine the person is in grade school.
  18. I was going to say, I live relatively close to the Kankakee river and fish it from time to time and it's nowhere near that fast unless there it's flooded, then it roars like all flooded waters with a flow.
  19. Maybe social media and YouTube and the circle I keep has warped my view of reality, but bass fishing seems as popular as ever. I can't imagine what else would "sell more" in a sporting goods store that they don't already carry.
  20. Because there's only one knot and not everything works well with straight braid.
  21. 10-12lb YZH
  22. If I fish them in rivers, they snag within minutes, but until then they catch some dinks and other species for me. In ponds I might as well be fishing a Lego on 200lb mono because the green bass don't touch them.
  23. I almost never throw a squarebill in a pond. Ponds are generally shallow and full of weeds and grass, at least around here. They get all mucked up right away. A lipless allows you to control depth better with your rod tip and reel speed, and is good in the grass.
  24. If the weather and ice or lack thereof allows, I start to fish in March. I mean I don't usually catch anything and I just freeze because I like to torture myself for no reward. Then in April I really kick it into high gear. It's still sketchy though. I'm either smoking them or they're laughing at me for trying. May is when it gets really fun and the bites are plentiful. This will last until September. In October the "fall feed" begins but around here it seems like that's a myth unless I'm targeting smallmouth in rivers but even then it slows down a lot. November-February is completely dead and quickly frozen over. Basically May-September is my season. The rest is a grind or impossible to fish without drilling through ice and that's not for me. Was supposed to move to Tennessee which would have changed everything but life circumstances messed that up.
  25. Unfortunately not. I fish from the bank and yak. I hope you get your answer.
