  1. I think you’re about as sensitive as you can get for sub $200. Maybe the avid x would be an upgrade? i also suggest looking for deals on used rods. I’ve scored a few used GLX for $250 recently.
  2. Looking at getting another rod to pitch jigs and creature baits around grass, wood, Nd docks. Most rigs will be in the 3/8 - 5/8 oz range. Should I get the 894 jwr or the 894fpr and why? I’m worried that the fpr rod might have a lot more backbone than I’m looking for and would act more like a punch rod.
  3. Hey guys, I’ve been thinking about trying out a new brand of rods to replace some of my older dobyns rods. I always hear great things about ALX rods but have never held one before. Which rods do you own and what baits do you throw on them?
  4. 30 or 40lb braid on a dobyns 736cb Glass
  5. Hold the hook between your thumb and your index finger and look down the wire towards the line tie to check if the blade is directly aligned with the hook. 9/10 times, this is the issue. Also make sure that the little piece of wire that is bent down to hold the rivet in place is straight and not crooked. Another thing that helped me recently is to bend the blade away from the head a bit to make more of a gap. You can even put a little bow in the wire between the line tie and the hook. If none of these work, buy a new buzzbait! ?
  6. My favorite bluegill spinnerbait is the white/chartreuse skirt!
  7. Reels: Shimano curados and chronarchs mostly rods: G. Loomis for contact presentations, dobyns for moving/reaction baits
  8. Fisherman’s central in Ohio. Great people, great prices, great customer service.
  9. Bone is my go-to, but I think they all work fine. I think they’re mostly chasing the surface commotion and sound
  10. I always say to buy the best rod you can afford. If the glx is in reach, go for it. It’s better to get the top dollar rod sooner than later, otherwise you’ll find yourself creeping up the ladder like I did and I would have saved more money if I went straight to the top.
  11. Yes, I own a few curado 70s and find the tension knob to be sensitive. It’s also the same, if not more sensitive on my chronarch mgl. Not a bad thing, just takes some getting used to
  12. In my honest opinion, I’ve tried many brands but high end G. Loomis rods still set the standard for sensitivity. I don’t think you can go wrong with either the GLX or NRX. For what it’s worth, I have a few GLX and don’t really see a need to spend the extra money on an NRX
  13. Curado 70. Upgrade the handle to a metanium handle and you’ve got an awesome reel.
  14. Anybody using the hack attack flouro flipping jig? Looks like an upgraded version of the bitsy flip and a finesse version of the original hack attack jig.
  15. I think you’re going to find lots of rods for 2 of those baits but not the 3rd, the odd one out being the frog imo. I like to have a bit of tip for the buzzbait and plopper to let the fish eat the bait and help keep them pinned (with braid), but my frog rod is quite a bit more powerful and stout. For what it’s worth, I throw the buzzbait and plopper on a dobyns champ 734 and frogs on a 735/6. The iRod above might be your best bet for handling all 3 baits prettt well.
  16. Sunline defier armilo Works well for both
  17. They are great rods. I still tend to use Loomis rods for my bottom contact rods as they’ve set the bar for sensitivity imo, but I would not hesitate to use a dobyns either. That being said, I give the nod to dobyns for balance. Those rods just feel great to fish.
  18. Anyone use the imx pro line of rods? Where do they stand in terms of sensitivity and balance? I found a few for $250, would this be a good deal?
  19. I’d be getting 20% off. How does the imx pro 894 jwr compare? Anyone fish it? Im a bit hesitant to drop the big bucks on a GLX.
  20. Yes and no. The more sensitivity the better for bottom contact baits imo... but for moving baits like spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwater, etc. I think rod action and how it loads are far more important. Also, low stretch lines like braid transmit more feel and can sometimes negate the need for a super sensitive rod. However, if sensitive rods are in your budget, I say go out and buy the best you can afford as they can only elevate your fishing game!
  21. Looking to buy a glx 894 jwr for dragging offshore football jigs and maybe some general pitching. Can this rod do both? Is it worth the money?
  22. I must admit I’ve always been a Loomis guy for any contact presentations, but I do own many dobyns champs for throwing reaction baits. I’ve heard great reviews on the megabass rods, but the warranty is lacking a bit imo for a $300 rod.
  23. Looking to purchase a new rod, either another flipping stick (?) or a rod to use for bottom contact baits like football jigs and worms. Which rod in the $250-300 range is most sensitive and balanced? Dobyns champ, Loomis imx, others??
