  1. I own the GLX 893 and 894. Phenomenal rod in terms of sensitivity. Balance isn’t perfect, but it’s good enough that you don’t notice it much. The only remedy I’ve found for the uncomfortable reel seat is to use a smaller profile reel. I put a curado 70 on both rods and they’re now my favorite combos to fish with.
  2. Tied direct to straight braid or mono with palomar knot
  3. Absolutely! What works for me may not work for others and vice versa. It’s all about confidence.
  4. Fluoro + Palomar knot = trouble.
  5. Thanks for the input. I’m just trying to get a feel for how stout the rod is and if it can handle jerkbaits, Squarebills, spooks, etc. unfortunately I can’t find one in a tackle store near me.
  6. Anyone own this rod? Which baits do you throw on it?
  7. Yes, st-36 is the way to go. Imo those really thick stocks hooks on the wp are way overkill. We aren’t fishing for tuna!
  8. New to throwing swimjigs and looking for some suggestions on favorite jigs, trailers, and places to throw them. I live in the northeast, so we have some milfoil, a few pads, and docks of course. Despite lots of attempts, I just can’t seem to get anything consistent going on a swimjig. Also, what’s your favorite retrieve?
  9. I throw the 110 and 130 WP and large spooks on a Dobyns 736 cb glass
  10. Luck e strike rick clunn stx for 7-8 bucks is my favorite. Swap out the hooks to #6 gammys or owners
  11. 7/16 oz biffle hardhead with a biffle bug plastic reeled at a slow and steady pace along the bottom. In my experiences, you’ll be reeling along the bottom and feeling some rock, then you’ll just feel a slight tick and the rod will load up. Give it a good sweeping hookset and you’re good!
  12. I bought some of these and tried them in place of the biffle bug. They had great action and caught several good fish on them, but I get bit more on the biffle bug in my waters.
  13. Short answer: they all catch fish! My favorite size in the choppo is the 120 and the 110 in the whopper plopper. Fish of all sizes still bite it, plus you get a little bit of added bulk to entice the big ones
  14. Moss green is my favorite but if you plan on throwing any weightless senkos or finesse worms, a hi-vis color could be nice for line watching.
  15. Yes a 6 gear ratio reel can be used for any presentation. People these days get too caught up with the 8 and 9 high speed gear ratios.
  16. Alx Zolo deputy or Dobyns champion 743 would be my suggestion. The alx rod will be more sensitive and less expensive. Dobyns has slightly better balance. cant comment on Kistler rods but have heard they are good rods too.
  17. Lots of good deals can be had for used GLX or NRX rods on this site and others if you are patient.
  18. That new spider lure they came out with at icast looks pretty dang bad!
  19. Any of the Daiwa sv reels and don’t even bother to look further!
  20. Tatula sv for pitching/skipping and shimano for everything else. Really you can’t go wrong with either. Both are great brands.
  21. Placed an order this evening and the discount was honored online even though it is not yet advertised on their website.
  22. Does anyone know where I can buy some large buzzbait blades, similar in size to war eagle’s blade? I’d prefer the aluminum delta blade design but would be interested in others as well.
  23. I haven’t found that it makes any difference personally.
  24. Dobyns 736cb glass (preferred) or 734 for the 110
  25. I fish mostly 6.3:1s and have not felt that I’m at a disadvantage for doing so. I like the fact that 6.3:1 gives you versatility to fish nearly every application. I don’t want to be tied down to only being able to use certain reels on certain rods because of the gear ratio.
