Any reel can backlash, but a daiwa sv or a shimano dc reel will be your best bet.

If you’re looking at the current models of GLX and nrx, make sure you compare the reel seats. Love the GLX blank but man the real seat feels funky in my hands.

I’d personally go with the enox based off the couple of others that I own. The St. Croix rods I’ve handled (avids, legend tournaments) haven’t impressed me all that much, but everybody likes something different, just like some will not like the enox. Get what feels most comfortable to you if you’re able to handle both rods before purchasing. What are you hoping to do with this rod?

I currently use an ALX Enox bmj. It’s been my favorite so far. I used to use a dobyns champion 734 and really enjoyed that rod for moving baits. A Loomis 843 is also a good choice. I fish my swimjigs mostly around shoreline cover... isolated stumps, overhanging branches, bushes, etc. These rods allow me enough tip to skip my baits and also allow the fish the engulf the bait without me pulling the bait out of its mouth.

Interested in trying some siebert football jigs for the first time. Which models do you like and which skirt colors?

Molix kento jig is a good one. Good price, good hook, you can swim it, drag it, pitch it.

I guess me and some of the others that have replied don’t catch as big as fish as you WRB! No giant trevallys here in my waters. Stick to your game I’ll stick to mine.

For spinning reels with braid, I like the drag to slip just a tad when I set the hook. Baitcasters, I tighten down all the way and if the fish surges next to the boat I disengage the reel and thumb the spool.

I’ve experienced the exact same thing. The bass in certain lakes around me destroy the WP... other lakes I can’t get a bite. I have no explanation for it. I do seem to catch more on the WP in lakes with a lot of rock and not many weeds. The buzzbait is better for me near grass.

6.3:1. Easier to speed up than slow down in my opinion.

On an extremely tough day or crystal clear, pressured waters I’d say flourocarbon matters. In dirty water, heavy vegetation, or aggressive fish, you could probably catch them on rope.

Easier to speed up. I feel like I have a tendency to fish too fast with some of the 7 and 8 gear ratio reels. Almost everything I own is a 6.3:1 with the exception of a few 7s

I like the horny toad or the zoom z craw as swindle suggested. Horny toad seems to draw bigger bites but not as many as the z craw. As far as plastic trailer vs skirted trailer, it seems to be pretty situational for me. I like the toad towards the fall when the fish are more aggressive. Seem to do better with a skirt during the summer months, but it could just be me.

Looking to try the neko rig for the first time this weekend. Going to be fishing scattered rock and grass in about 10-12 fow. Any suggestions for rigging or favorite worms and hooks?

MH would be good for those weights. I step it up to a heavy if I’m throwing 1/2oz or more. Heavier rod may help with hook sets if you are fishing really deep too.

I used to own the 822dsr. Phenomenal rod if you are strictly looking for an open water drop shot rod and perhaps the best on the market for this application. I sold it because it was more of a niche rod for me and I don’t drop shot much. I wouldn’t recommend throwing senkos on it. It’s pretty soft. Can’t comment on the 802s or 803s since I haven’t fished them. The 872s is on my bucket list to try. I hear it can do a lot of things well.

Love the tn70 regular rattle. I haven’t fished the disc knocker yet. These cost a bit more but are much higher quality than a red eye shad and have a deeper sound to them. You can burn these really fast and they won’t roll over. Also great for yoyoing.

Invest in some higher quality flouro and give it a few sprays of kvd line conditioner and you shouldn’t have any issues. I really like seaguar invisx and sunline sniper. If you want to splurge, go for the seaguar tatsu. Flouro works great with feel techniques, crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, etc. Its not my first choice for topwater since it sinks and will pull the nose of the bait down.

17-20 lb invisx

Double check that the plastic is rigged on perfectly straight. Even if it’s off center a little bit, the buzzbait will want to roll over. You can also bend the wire frame to “tune” the buzzbait.
