  1. Bought a few cull shads this fall and I really like the screw-in keeper that allows the hook to clip in and be held against the body of the bait. Does anyone know if these clips are sold separately elsewhere?
  2. Anyone build their own spinnerbaits on boss heads? I like a lot of their jig heads for flipping and dragging and looking to try the spinnerbait heads as well.
  3. 7’7 heavy rod would be more suited towards the rigged magdraft, although it would probably handle the freestyle just fine too. I also use this rod for smaller glides (1-2 oz) and light flipping with straight 50 lb braid.
  4. Looking for recommendations for brands that have tall size fishing bibs and jackets. I do a lot of late season fishing when air temps are in the 30s and 40s, so something insulated and waterproof would be best. I’m 6’6 and wear a 36” inseam.
  5. Sorry, I wasn’t clear in my original post. I throw the mag draft quite a bit with good results. Just wondering if the cull Shad is also a decent bait since I can get them for quite a bit cheaper locally. The obvious downside is no freestyle version of the cull Shad.
  6. I know this has been brought up in the past, but now that the cull Shad has been out for a while, how does it stack up against the magdraft?
  7. Vibe-e is all I use. No reason to change.
  8. Sounds good to me!
  9. Buying used off someone for half price. If you don’t have anything to share, why comment…?
  10. Anyone own this rod? Thought about picking one up strictly for frog fishing. Is it a broom stick? Currently using an ALX toadface which works for light cover and open water but would like some more power for the thick stuff.
  11. Picked up the Helix 7 G4 Mega DI/SI and mounted on my old town pdl 106 and have been very happy with the performance. The images are very clear. I use the Navarre scupper mount which neatly tucks it up under the hull and provides fairly good protection. I am still very careful not to scratch the transducer when loading/unloading or beaching my kayak. If you drag your yak a lot, the side arm mount might be a better option. I run mine with an 18 amp hour lithium I picked up on Amazon for around $40-50. I’ve ran my unit on pretty much full settings for two full 8-hour days without charging. I have my unit mounted on the side rail with the ram ball mount.
  12. Kind of wish they would schedule a few grinder events like the Sabine. Most of these tournaments will be a slugfest… good for viewing I suppose.
  13. Expride 7’2 ml or 7’ light with braid to leader. Great sensitivity, no need to go any higher.
  14. Chatterbait trailer
  15. I prefer to watch the largemouth tournaments where multiple techniques are in play. Champlain has been OK with a few guys targeting largemouth. St. Lawrence for me is a snoozefest with everyone doing the same livescope deal.
  16. I’ve got the gizzard Shad pattern. Have had some success so far, but nothing to write home about. If I had FFS I think I would catch more fish on it. Gets a lot of follows, but the fish don’t always commit.
  17. Recently picked up an Old Town Sportsman PDL 106 kayak and I’m wanting to mount a Helix 7 on the rail. Had a few questions for those with a similar set up: will side imaging work on this kayak or will I get interference from the hull/PDL drive? should I mount the transducer directly to the universal transducer mount on the kayak or purchase some other type of scupper or 3D printed mount?

Love the baby brush hog on the back of a c-rig. Been wanting to try the midsize brush hog. Anyone throwing it?

Looking to try some hair jigs on a local lake. I’m talking the big, fluffy “preacher” jigs for ledge fishing rather than the finesse hair jigs for smallmouth. what are some of your favorite brands and sizes? Will pretty much be sticking to white.
  20. Most of my rods that are rated “heavy” that I use for pitching and flipping have max ratings between 1-1.5 oz. I don’t have any that I’d consider “meat” sticks because (1) I don’t have super heavy cover where I’m at that warrants this type of rod and (2) I’m fishing for fish that are normally 2-4 lb, with a rare 5-6 lber a few times a year. No double digits where I’m at.
  21. Looking for a unit to mount on a kayak that has GPS mapping, SI, and DI. Screen size does not need to be large. what’s the best bang for the buck unit capable of this? Brand does not matter.
  22. @AlabamaSpothunter whatever you do, don’t reel that bait as fast as you can and burn it. Never works ?
  23. Slightly but noticeably less than the zolo brawler or powerbolt… haven’t fished a 7’6-8’0 heavy rod that wasn’t at least a little bit tip heavy.
  24. Yes 1/2 oz and up in my opinion. I was usually around the 1 oz mark. It handled up to a 2 oz glide bait fine, but I wouldn’t go over that.
  25. I have the enox shock. This rod can handle some pretty heavy weights, well above its rating. I use mine for light punching/flipping and some lighter a-rig work. It’s got a lot of backbone for setting the hook and fighting fish but still bends fairly deep into the blank to help keep fish pinned. That’s my favorite characteristic of most of the ALX rods I own. I had the brawler but did not like it. It was pretty tip heavy in my hands. Have been debating on posting the Shock in the marketplace since I don’t use it as often as I used to. Feel free to shoot me a pm if you’re interested.
