Jigs in heavy brushpiles
Nope. From the bank you are going to lose lures/baits. However, you can use a variety of soft plastics rigged weightless to imitate a jig and reduce hang-ups and losses: Fat Ika, tubes Hula Grubs, GYCB Kreature or other brand's creature baits. This is an example: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1180909581 8-)

Jackall Cover Craw Review by fivebasslimit
Seems a lot like a Fat Ika with a slightly different profile. 8-)

Random crankbait use question
Don't use the lighter lures with the gear you are fishing. I rarely fish anything less than 3/8 oz and much prefer 1/2 +. 8-)

Rage Shad trouble
Mattlures has recommended that trick for his baits, too. 8-)

What are they eating II ?
Fishing live minnows on the Tennessee River we often catch smallmouth bloated with crawdads, sometimes stuck in the gullet! These fish, I believe, will "attack anything edible within its reach". There is no better situation a fisherman will ever find than actively feeding fish. 8-)

Spinnerbait w/Trailerbait
5" GYCB Single Tail Grub for me. 8-)

buzz bait bite!!
I have given away all my old buzzbaits. For me it's the MegaStrike Cavitron Buzzbait exclusively. No trailer hook and don't set the hook until you feel the weight of the fish. I fish them with a 5" GYCB Single Tail Grub attached. 8-)

Going after smallies. What to do differently?
Try the Fat Ika, it might be #1 in still water. 8-)

Need some help on lures
I would want to give the X-Rap (XR8) and LC Pointer 100 a workout. Jerkbaits are hot in the fall. In low light, topwater might be the ticket (Zara Spook, LC Sammy and Chug Bug). If there is a little breeze, 1/4 oz Cavitron Buzzbait is another suggestion. 8-)

good baitcaster for beginner?
I don't know, but if not he will have to ask again. This thread has become discombobulated! Good night Irene -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

How Would You Handle the Situation?
From what I hear, I doubt that dude would be messing with you! 8-)

What are they eating II ?
Well, I don't think you need to change up real fast when something's working. I would keep throwing the spinnerbait for awhile, for sure! 8-)

Recommend me a line?
Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft are both copolymers. The lines are a bonded, not coated, nylon/ fluorocarbon blend. Ultra Soft has a higher percentage of nylon in the formula which results in a line with less memory than any other copolymer I have used. The breaking strength of Ultra Soft is about 1 lb less than original Hybrid, e.g., #12 is about 18.5 vs 19.5. The other noticeable difference is original Hybrid blends better in water. In the smaller diameters, Hybrid is virtually invisible. In clear water, green is a perfect match; smoke in stained water. 8-)

good baitcaster for beginner?
I have read every post you have made on this forum. Your credibility is often questionable. Although we have many members just getting started, we have many others that were accomplished anglers long before you got out of diapers. Going forward, if you have something to add, do so in a courteous way or it will be deleted. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

taking a newbie with me, need a line suggestion
sweet daddy, It's about time to pack your bags, I suspect you will be gone shortly. ______________________ Back on topic Whatever you have spooled up will probably be fine for a day or two. You already know this isn't the best rig for fishing weeds, but if you want to change out the line, 20/6 or 30/8 will work.

Slow Midday Fishing...
Some suggest it's a result of light penetration. More baitfish activity results in predators growing accustom to hunting at this time of day. 8-)
