Tying Braid to Flourocarbon
I tie the Blood Knot for all other types of line, but the Alberto's Knot I think is a better choice for braid/ leader of different size. 8-)

Tying Braid to Flourocarbon
Alberto's Knot Note: The title of the video reads "Albright Knot", but he is actually tying the Alberto's Knot which is a modification (double wound). 8-)

Daiwa VIP Smallmouth rods
Three rods will cover everything. Pay close attention to the specs, not necessarily the brand, but I will be very specific on what I fish: For all weightless soft plastics: St. Croix Legend Elite ES70MF/ Stella 2500FD/ #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid For all treble hook lures: St. Croix Avid AVC66MF/ Core/ #12 Hybrid Note: A better generic recommendation is Medium Heavy Power/ Moderate Action. However, this particular St. Croix blank makes the perfect "all-around" rod for treble hooks. The tip is soft enough for this class of lures, but firm enough to effectively work topwater lures and jerkbaits. I think you will find it to be the right one for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits, too. For weighted soft plastics and jigs: G. Loomis GLX MBR844C/ Curado 200E7/ #12 Yo-Zuri You "need" nothing else. 8-)

Fishing goals
It's still the same: 12 lb 1 oz smallmouth I had a shot at it, but dropped the ball. Now I'm just looking for another chance at that fish or her twin sister! I know where she lives and will be spending a lot of time in her neighborhood this season. 8-)

Daiwa VIP Smallmouth rods
No. Labels don't have much effect on Power and Action. I would consider an "all-around" rod to be 6 1/2' or 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action. From there you go to specific attributes for different techniques. 8-)

September 9, 2009
Time is not an illusion, it's a tool for measuring natural events. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time The calender is a system of organizing time sequences: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar 9/9/09 has no particular significance, it just strikes me and many others as interesting. 8-)

Legend Tournament vs. GLX vs. Others
Welcome aboard! I have G. Loomis, St. Croix Avids and Legend Elites. This is my take: G. Loomis GLX for jigs and soft plastics PR844S for live bait PR844C for heavy jerkbaits and some crankbaits BCR854 for jigs MBR844C for weighted soft plastics MBR842C for dropshots Avids for "moving" lures AVS66MLF for stocker trout, white bass and crappie AVC66MF for topwater, medium weight jerkbaits and buzzbaits AVC70MF for spinnerbaits AVC70MM for medium weight crankbaits, especially Rat-L-Trap type lures I go both ways with the Legend Elites which I think are comparable to G. Loomis IMX series. ES70MF for weightless soft plastics. EC70MHF for Mattlures Baby Bass and 3/4 oz Ledgebuster Single Willow Blade Spinnerbait. My deep cranking rod is a Lamiglas SR705R For fishing jerkbaits at night, Fenwick Techna AV AVS70MM 8-)

looking to join a club in new jersey (central) as a non-boater?
Welcome aboard! Club rules vary, but your best bet is finding a junior club. Fish with people your own age and for the most part, comparable skill levels. We have several VERY accomplished teens on board and when they see this post, I'm sure they can help answer the questions you have more specifically. 8-)

BR help needed
That's not how the IRS works. Issues are always handled by mail. More serious problems involve certified mail. Don't open the link. BTW, Over the last couple of months I've won two foreign lotteries and someone left me a pile of dough in Africa! Oddly, I never bought any lottery tickets and don't know anyone in Africa. >

Stren Line
Mr. frogtog, Here's a deal for you: Buy a spool of Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 and spool up two baitcasters. Fish it a few times and if you don't like the line I will pay for it. -Kent

Dust collecters
I keep two of the most famous "Info-commercial" lures in a tacklebox just to remind myself to NEVER buy another lure that "outfishes live bait" or "may be banned from tournament fishing." :
