  1. ** MODERATOR NOTE ** This thread has turned ugly and ridiculous. Fishing in a tournament gives you NO SPECIAL PRIVILEGES. This thread is closed. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  2. #1 soft plastic in still water less than 12' deep. In moving water the action of the Fat Ika is negated making GYCB Senkos, Hula Grubs, Single Tail Grubs or 3 1/2" Gitzits better options. 8-)
  3. The World Record was fooled by a pearl colored Bomber 8-)
  4. NASA had a virtually unlimited budget... "Money talks, BS walks." 8-)
  5. Just for "somewhere to start": Jigs & soft plastics: "dark" Crankbaits: Silver with black & white accents (baitfish pattern) Lipless crankbait: Xr50 blue chrome/ orange Jerkbaits: Green or blue chrome/ orange Towater: Green or black Buzzbait: Black Spinnerbait: White, chartreuse or a combination 8-)
  6. Depends on what you are using the rod for. I have a few, so here's my take: For all techniques with "moving lures" the Avids are the better value. For jigs and soft plastics, G. Loomis IMX hands down! Specific suggestion: G. Loomis IMX MBR844C first. Your next rod should be an Avid AVC66MF. If you are talking spinning tackle: G.Loomis IMX SJR783 or 843 Otherwise, Avid AVS68MXF. 8-)
  7. What took you so long? 8-)
  8. You've got it going! Those are some beautiful fish. 8-)
  9. Wow! That's a trip! 8-)
  10. This one is a "Must Have!" 8-)
  11. Same here. Hate wasting my time in a tackle shop unless I'm looking for something specific. I understand where you guys are coming from, but for a lot of us, we like collecting lures. Most of what I own, 75-95% of my lures, have only been wet once- testing in the pool. Heck, I hate the Live Pointer, but BPS had them on sale sometime ago so I bought two more!
  12. 3/0 is fine, but a more universal size is 4/0. I generally use 3/0 EWG for 3 1/2" tubes, 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu Offset Worm Hooks for most soft plastics; 5/0 Round Bend for the Anaconda and other big worms; and I'm experimenting with some Owner 5/0 EWG. 8-)
  13. CONGRATULATIONS!
  14. Here ya go: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141187546 It's also a sticky in the top portion of this section. 8-)
  15. Hmm... Just move on, there is nothing to be gained by having ANY discussion with the slug. >
  16. Geez.... The Bait Monkey is just for fun...If you don't like the little fellow, move on to another thread.
  17. Buy a Shimano Citica as the reel in combination with a house-brand rod. The rod should be 6 1/2' or 7', Medium Power/ Fast Action. This is an example, but NEVER PAY RETAIL, these combos are on sale all the time: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=netcon&id=0060938123723a&navCount=1&podId=0060938&parentId=cat20285&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=XJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true 8-)
  18. http://publicenemies.net/ The wife and I saw this movie last Friday afternoon and really liked it. The casting is great, wardrobes totally cool and there's lots of shoot-outs. My wife likes plot, character development and dialogue, I just like loud and violent! This movie has it all.
  19. We have this section just for our little bronze friends. Welcome aboard! I don't have an answer, but here are some thoughts on estimating the age of a smallmouth: In the South, smallmouth bass will grow to 4 or 5 lbs by the time they are 4 years old. Reaching 5 lbs in the northern states may take 10-12 years. Northern smallmouth are the same species as those found in the South, but southern bass are active all year and as a result, only live to be 9 or 10 years old. Fish in northern waters can live to be 19 or so. 8-)
  20. You need to see a "real doctor" or maybe even a specialist, not a chiropractor. Regardless of any improvement, at your age there may be an issue that requires attention NOW so it doesn't haunt you as you get older. Please, listen to Team Depends on this one...been there, done that. :-?
  21. WTG! Nice fish. 8-)
  22. On average, 21.5" would be around 4 lb 13 oz. Source: NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation Regardless of the weight, CONGRATULATIONS! That's a beauty.
  23. Well, believe me, I LOVE technique specific rods, but a Medium Power/ Fast Action spinning rig could be used for everything. There is nothing, except heavy swimbaits, that my rod (PR844S) can't handle. 8-)
  24. Great pics, congratulations! 8-)
