Action vs. lure weight.
You 're talking about POWER not action, two different animals. In layman 's term Power = stiffness ( line and weight capacity ), Action = where the rod bends along it 's length. I mean action. For example if a rod has a lure weight of 3/8 - 2 oz that means the action is probably extra fast. But what is 3/8 - 1 oz? or .5 - 1.5? or 1/4 - 3/4? No, you're confused. Re-read Raul's post. Rods have a variety of weight capabilities which have nothing to do with the action rating. Long, Extra Heavy Power/ Slow Action rods can almost launch heavy lures into outer space! 8-)

weakest link or knot?
There are lots of choices and most will work just fine. Specifically, I use the Palomar Knot most of the time, but for big treble hook lures, Sixteen-Twenty: http://206.210.94.83/collaterals/pdf/fhf_knot_sixteen_twenty.pdf 8-)

Snap swivel or tie directly to lure?
Direct tie for hooks and single hook lures (jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits). For most hard lures, a swivel is fine. 8-)

St. Croix Avid or G Loomis IMX
You should be able to find a new Curado 200 E7 for around $150. Here is the thread currently running a few lines down: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1246982740 8-)

Deps ?
I have a Realiser. The lure is beautiful and the action strong: it swims exactly like a live fish. I can't say that I have given it a fair chance, but I have thrown the lure for more than an hour in total. I have yet to have a strike or follow. 8-)

Flourocarbon Line: P-Line vs. Trilene 100%
Hey not for me, after reading some highly recommended posts I'm learning to fish heavy tackle for light fish, and thanks for the help in that area, someday I may be an expert at fishing for little guys just like you. In the post I did neglect to mention that I thought that line was quite strong, didn't twist bad and had no coil, I just hit post before I was done. I was excited to get back to the Michael Jackson memorial, wouldn't missed it for the world. I don't know. A line record for bonita will probably require lighter wire. You might run into some sportfisherman that can give you some tips on how they catch their bait. You're still confused...This is a freshwater bass forum. If you want to talk salt, find another venue or restrict yourself to "Other Species". We don't fish 8000 series reels and we don't use 20 lb P-Line to fish for crappie or trout.

High end rod advice
That's a fact! However, I still prefer the ES70MF for weightless soft plastics. The "professional overruns" we experience with baitcasting gear when a soft plastic goes airborne is totally unacceptable for me. 8-)

Lets talk buzz baits
Nothin' to talk about: Cavitron Buzzbaits are THE BOMB! They produce a unique chirping sound, tremendous bubble trail, come up immediately and can be fished slower than any other. This is the perfect buzzbait. I prefer the Cavitron 3/8 oz, black on black. http://www.megastrike.com/ 8-)

Finally tried a Curado E7
1/2 twist and it's open, 1/2 twist and it's closed. I set my brakes when I got the reel and I doubt they will ever be adjusted. 8-)

Flourocarbon Line: P-Line vs. Trilene 100%
Really? That seems a little heavy for trout and crappie. None of those lines or weights are even close to what you need. Trilene XL #6 will be just fine. 8-)

Finally tried a Curado E7
I recently saddled one up on a BCR854 and spooled it with 50/12 braid. Lookin' pretty good! Seems as solid and smooth as some of my much more expensive Shimanos. I'm really impressed. 8-)

One of my fishing partners is BassResource.com member SS140 (Neal Coleman). This spring he caught a 6 1/2 lb smallmouth on topwater during a tournament and collected $1500 for big fish. I have caught a few 5+ on topwater and one just over 7 on a 3 1/2 Gitzit. However, all of these late spring and summer fish were caught while targeting green trout. Much like CJ's 4.5 at this year's Roadtrip, smallmouth will be caught, but not targeted. p.s. "For the record, the former world-record smallmouth (10lb 8oz), hailed from Wilson Lake in the tailrace of Wheeler Dam." RoLo, you are correct, but unfortunately I cannot modify an article like we can modify a post. -Kent 8-)

Fat Ika Convert.
Gitzit (tubes). Deeper water requires weight. Regarding rigging grubs, 1/8 or 1/4 oz jig head depending on the current. 8-)
