  1. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  2. "Baby Bass" is the closest you will come and just happens to be my favorite color pattern for all hard baits! However, I have had some luck on Kentucky Lake throwing a DD22 in "Texas Shad". http://www.***.com/descpageHDCNORMAN-DD22S.html#pImage 8-)
  3. CONGRATULATIONS! Just picked up the Curado 200 E7 a couple of weeks ago. Matched it up with a BCR854 (Forest Green on Green). Jumped off a cliff and spooled up Power Pro 50/12 for color coordination (black/green). Best of all, the STX is no longer part of my jig rig! 8-)
  4. my mistake...Symetre FJ, Stradic FI
  5. Nope, give 'em a try. 8-)
  6. I'm the only Moderator to post on this thread and I guess you didn't find my response humorous. I am occasionally accused of being a hardliner, but rarely (never) someone who would shirk any civil duty or responsibility. Knowing or thinking I know Fourbizz a little, my comments were for his redneck side. No offense intended. I expect everyone to serve when called.
  7. 99% of the time, when you are "fishing", you are NOT "catching". Focus all your attention on the weight of the jig & trailer. Over time you will also develop a "feel" for moss, weeds, limbs and rocks, but from day one: pay attention to how the bait feels when you are just "fishing". 8-)
  8. C'mon...I always get complaints, especially directed at The Posse, for jumping into "somebody else's" thread. If you have something to say on this thread, it should be something positive about Quantum reels. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  9. Ain't that the truth! p.s. JJ's probably will never be "commercially" available. Their marketing platform is internet based- you must order direct. 8-)
  10. All this can be pretty confusing. If you want to go back through this section, you can find advice on just about every brand and combination offered. So, to cut to the chase, here's some specific advice: Value: All of the major retailers have "in-house" brand rods. The best "value" is a combination rod & reel on sale. Select any combo which includes the Shimano Symetre 2500FJ. For an "all-around" rod, choose one that is 6 1/2' or 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action. Up-grade For Life: This is a combination you will never grow out of: Shimano Stradic 2500FI with a St. Croix Avid AVS68MXF. Whichever combination you buy, spool it up Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test). I also like all line treated with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner. Good luck! 8-)
  11. Let's face it: Lures are not all about "fishing", we're "collectors". :
  12. Hey George! There is a post in the "Southeast" section on fishing Stick Marsh/Farm 13 in a canoe. I would like to hear your take on that. 8-)
  13. Rapala uses VMC Hooks on Husky Jerks...no issue there. 7' Medium Power/ Moderate Action...no issue at all! Maybe just bad luck...but here is another thought: Never let a fish stage. It should be coming to you or peeling drag. Constant pressure is MANDATORY. 8-)
  14. Here's my take: If someone says they weighed the fish, nothin' to talk about. I don't care what it "looks like". If it "could have been", again, nothin' to talk about. But if someone asks, "How much do YOU think it weighed, GAME ON! Most "bout 5" are 3-4. Most "round 8" might make 5. 10's that aren't weighed, aren't. The guys that catch DDs on a regular basis usually weigh them AND take a picture. 8-)
  15. What ever you try, DO NOT throw a GYCB Fat Ika. Rigged skirt forward, weightless and weedless, the lure will fall away from you and under the dock if your cast places the bait near the edge. There is a good chance you will be either jerked out of the boat or get your arm broken fishing this way. Be careful! 8-)
  16. Well, I certainly don't agree with that statement and have already posted George Welcome's summary of "The Science". If you think that only applies to salt water fishing, that's fine, but there is in fact a reason for designating left or right hand retrieve. 8-)
  17. Nice fish, great pics! 8-)
  18. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  19. Reaction Innovations Double Wide Beaver is what I would suggest, but it's 5 1/4", not 6+... http://reactioninnovations.com/box/product_info.php?products_id=35&osCsid=3d7e52e0faf7eec77e7f334ec725fb31 The Gene Larew Hoo-Daddy is 6" http://www.***.com/descpageGLSB-GLHD.html 8-)
  20. "Seven" starring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey. Editorial Reviews Amazon.com essential video The most viscerally frightening and disturbing homicidal maniac picture since The Silence of the Lambs, Seven is based on an idea that's both gruesome and ingenious. A serial killer forces each of his victims to die by acting out one of the seven deadly sins. The murder scene is then artfully arranged into a grotesque tableau, a graphic illustration of each mortal vice. From the jittery opening credits to the horrifying (and seemingly inescapable) concluding twist, director David Fincher immerses us in a murky urban twilight where everything seems to be rotting, rusting, or molding; the air is cold and heavy with dread. Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt are the detectives who skillfully track down the killer--all the while unaware that he has been closing in on them, as well. Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey are also featured, but it is director Fincher and the ominous, overwhelmingly oppressive atmosphere of doom that he creates that are the real stars of the film. It's a terrific date movie--for vampires. --Jim Emerson
  21. Great post! 8-)
  22. Well, no doubt those are some mighty fine fish. However, I think you were in great danger whether you recognized it or not. If you try this again, at least be sure someone responsible knows where you are and when to start worrying. Beautiful fish and great pics! BTW, Even though George Welcome has named some of the local gators, they have NOT been domesticated. 8-)
  23. Shop around and buy a Symetre 2500FJ. With the Father's Day discount, this is very close to your pricing target: http://www.***.com/descpageRLSSHIMANO-SSYFJ.html Free shipping and no sales tax. 8-)
  24. Fish hook themselves on jerkbaits. Sweep your rod and reel like mad. When the fish fights back, you got him. Ideally, you need a rod with a soft tip and/or line with some give (monofilament for example). Chances are, you are losing fish because you are pulling the lure out of the fish's mouth. My rod of choice for both jerkbaits and topwater is a St. Croix Avid AVC66MF which has a soft tip. The length and overall firmness of the rod allows me to work the lures effectively. The soft tip acts as a shock absorber during the battle. 8-)
