Mono Keeps Breaking Halfway Through The Spool
No, I think you have an equipment issue. There may be a knick on one of the eyes. Check each one carefully with a Q-tip. Always check your line, but P-line is tougher than a bowling ball. That doesn't mean it never gets nicked or cut, but it's pretty rare. 8-)

what do you think about this rig
Totally impractical. Buzzbaits and spinnerbaits get tangled up all the time, fished alone. :

Susky 11/5/2008
You're killin' me! I'm headed over to the Tennesse River later today and can hardly wait to get on the water. We never catch those kind of numbers, but I'm hoping for a good ole biggun or a big ole goodun! 8-)

Braided Line Question
Whether you fish braid, monofilament, copolymer or fluorocarbon makes no difference what-so-ever if your drag is properly set. Generally, this means 25%-30% of the breaking strength of the line as long as that is within the suggested rating for the rod! The drag may be set with a scale or with free weights. Free weights are placed in a plastic grocery bag and tied to your line. Gently lift the bag off the ground and set your drag accordingly. In most cases, 3-4 lbs is the maximum setting you will want. Once you have actually measured the drag by scale, pull some line a few times and this will give you the "feel" for future settings. I only scale new equipment or measure it occasionally just for fun! Using this procedure, I have never broken a rod nor been broken off by a fish using Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft. With other brands of line, results may vary...Just kidding, this will work for all lines. 8-)

Very Interesting Read.
What I find interesting is that we have at least two well known members that know something about the author and called him out on it. So he put together a summary report on how to find 'em, but he can't actually do it himself! Wow... 8-)

Fluorocarbon Lines
I have been experimenting with P-Line CX Premium. I haven't tested it against a good fish yet, so I can't comment on strength, but I can tell you it is a very manageable line for spinning tackle. With a treatment of KVD Line & Lure Conditioner, CX Premium has virtually no memory. I'm using #6 and so far, so good. 8-)

Fresh jerkbait advice
Jerk-jerk-pause-jerk-pause-jerk-jerk-pause might be one pattern. The cadence is a matter of trial an error, but pay attention to what you're doing. When you find the right one it will last the rest of the outing. I usually start out with long sweeps and an extended pause, then work up to other patterns. But let me emphasize again, regardless of the pattern, a complete pause on slack line is the key. 8-)

Fresh jerkbait advice
First of all, fishing jerkbaits is my favorite technique, but not my most productive. In general, I fish jerkbaits when the best other option might be topwater. With any lure, the key is location and that's the case here, too. With jerkbaits, structure is much more user friendly than cover. When fish are very active, I like the action of the Rapala X-Rap and Husky jerk, worked fast. "Normally" I prefer the more subtle action of Pointers, worked slow. Regardless of the brand or whether you work them fast, slow, deep or shallow, this class of lure woks best with a complete pause on slack line. When fishing a Pointer, the pause may be ten to fifteen seconds or even longer. The strike is always aggressive...very aggressive. Bass don't bump the lure or nibble on it, they strike violently intending to kill it! That's what makes fishing a jerkbait so much fun and why this class of lure is my favorite. 8-)

Oil Prices Plunge!
Well, with a Schnucks discount card, I paid $1.24 last weekend. $0.99 is quite possible. Regarding the DJIA, it will depend on the length and severity of the pending recession. If a broad section of investors begin another panic, something around 5000 is possible. I suspect we flirt with 7000 and find some support either side of 7500. Although no one can really know where this bottoms out, I don't think we have seen it yet. Real estate shows no signs of coming back, although bottom- feeders are picking off forclosures for less than fifty cents on the dollar. The auto sector is insolvent and will either be nationalized or fail. Airlines consistantly teeter on the brink of bankruptcy and the financial companies/ banks will require additional bailout monies. As the snowball rolls downhill, it grows in size and picks up velocity.
