looking for a trout rod
Some of the retailers still have a few of the older model St. Croix Avids. If you can find an AS66MLF for around $100, that would be my suggestion. That's what I fish! 8-)

Fenwick Rod
I have had a couple of Techna AV and currently fish an AVS70MM. These are outstanding rods, comparable in every way to the St. Croix Avid series. However, after raising prices last year, I no longer recommend the Fenwick rods because they seem overpriced vs. the Avids. The "relative value" simply isn't there. Fenwick's warranty sucks, too. 8-)

u.s. reel
Well, Randall (professional Georgia guide) has a couple of the reels and really likes them, but I bought the original spinning reel and it sucked. I would want to fish a new reel before buying one. On the other hand, I'm an ole stick-in-the-mud and would end up with another Shimano anyhow!

Reel for medium size swimbaits?
I think the Shimano CTE300 is the preferred reel. http://www.***.com/descpageRLCSHIMANO-SHCTE.html 8-)

Oil Prices Plunge!
Geez...We have been praying that gasoline would drop below $2 for months. Now you have $1.74 and you want it cheaper! Wassup with dat? p.s. If you will go back to the first few pages of this thread I think you'll find it amusing, when I suggested a range of $1.75-$2.25, how many people said you would never see those levels again in your lifetime!

AMEX has a great fraud program
A few years ago I had a similar experience with Bank of America. My ATM card was diabled and I could not withdraw cash. When I got them on the phone I was told the bank had detected unusual activity and suspended the card. Too cool! The cardholder number was apparently stolen by a retail employee in the "normal course of business". Random, relatively small purchases were made within a thirty minute period, around the world! Before the card was suspended, the perps had spent about $2800. Our cost, -0-.

High End Rods and Reels
It's called "the law of diminishing returns". As the price increases, the "relative improvement" is less. As a generic example, a $300 reel might be 25% nicer than a $150 reel. Industry wide, it seems to me "high-end" begins around $150 for a rod or reel, a $300 combination. (Let's not quibble over the exact number). For around $150 (on sale), all retailers offer a very nice combo. After that, it's really about how important a dollar is to you and your family. As a specific example, which I am very familiar with, the G. Loomis IMX series is all anyone would ever "need". For another $100 or 40% more you move to GLX. You might pick-up 10% in sensitivity, but that is very subjective and not easily quantifiable. If 10% improvement is worth $100 to you, that's your pick. It boils down to what $100 means to you. 8-)

Hard plastic swimbait??
Winter is when you see a big influx of really pale people with funny accents shopping at your local Walmart.

Chili time.....
No beans is the "authentic recipe". I like different beans (red and kidney) for texture, but add them late in the game to maintain firmness. By sitting overnight, all flavors tend to blend rather than standing out individually. 8-)

MUDDY"S SPECIAL STUFFING RECIPE
Last Thanksgiving I roasted the Martha Stewart turkey & stuffing. Not only was this the best tasting bird I have every had, using the cheesecloth resulted in the prettiest presentation imaginable. If you decide to give it a try, follow the directions precisely for the perfect Thanksgiving feast! http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site/mslo/menuitem.fc77a0dbc44dd1611e3bf410b5900aa0/?vgnextoid=017a40ee0c90f010VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&vgnextchannel=f76b0edafa588110VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&rsc=menu_food&lnc=b4995e998467c110VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD 8-)

Chili time.....
Chrizo is a spicy, but not hot, Mexican saugage. The cornmeal absorbs gease and sweetens the chili. I use paper towels to skim grease that accumulates on top of the mix while cooking. 8-)
