  1. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  2. I haven't fished Dale Hollow, so I can't help, but I can tell you from talking with other people that this lake can be tough. Hiring a guide for at least a day might be the best thing to suggest. 8-)
  3. T-rigged, weightless and weedless. 8-)
  4. Of my nine rods, five are St. Croix including three Avids. I recommend getting the G. Loomis IMX. 8-)
  5. First of all, it's a jerkbait not a crankbait. I bought one when they first came out and have caught a couple of bass, but the biggest fish was a catfish! I don't like the lure, mostly because it is too light and doesn't cast well on the equipment I like to use to fish jerkbaits. Although I haven't used the Live Pointer in years, I picked up two more on sale I haven't used them and probably won't... Bad Monkey. 8-)
  6. Welcome aboard! I was born in Wichita, before the streets were paved! Still have relatives there, too. My uncle, Gary Thompson, was the Wichita State basketball coach in the '60s. 8-)
  7. Hmm... Just another "average day" around here... Great fish and pics! You don't get "questioned" on this Forum. We know about the Big Bass Guys and you are one of our own. 8-)
  8. Dude... State records have to be verified. If there is ever a reason to keep a trophy, this is it. The Kansas State Record hasn't been broken in 35 years and that fish probably wasn't going to live more than another year or so. I'm sure the fish was kept and and thoroughly analyzed to determine it's age. There is more to wildlife management than purely catch & release. :
  9. Shimano Symetre 1500FI or 2500FI, depending how you think it matches up with your rod. If you decide to go with a 6 1/2' ML/F, the 1500 is probably the right reel. For a 7' M/F, the 2500 is the ticket. 8-)
  10. Congratulations on a great day! 8-)

  13. Those are pretty nice. I guess they're pale from the muddy water, but they all look fat and happy. Congratulations! 8-)
  14. Hey Mike! Good luck with the brown fish! -Kent 8-)

  16. Well, for "most" casting, the Ultra Soft is the ticket. High strength braid might be a better choice for thick vegetation because it "cuts through" the thick stuff. For flipping and pitching, I think original Hybrid #15 (23 lb test) might be better if you are fishing where hang-ups are common. (#15 is as high as you can go if you want to be able to break the line when you need to). Both Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft can be seen above water. The original formula is less visible underwater, but both blend well. The main attribute of Ultra Soft vs. Hybrid is memory, or an almost total absence of memory "in use". Hybrid coils initially from being stored on the spool, but straightens out after just a few casts. For casting, I recommend #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test) on spinning tackle, #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test) on baitcasters. I am experimenting with original #15 for swimbaits and jigs. With heavy lures or short presentations, memory is not an issue. 8-)

  18. Here my reply in a thread currently running in "Smallmouth" http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1210085230/7#7 8-)
  19. At the pricing point, there are better options. Raul and others have stated that the BPS Extreme is fine for the cost and if you have any issues, it's easily replaced. Perhaps the Triumph has gotten better, but it initially had too many issues with questionable components and poor construction. With the reputation St. Croix has earned over the years, I'm sure they were embarrassed by the introduction of this rod.
  20. Original Hybrid: Green in clear water and smoke in stained water are virtually invisible. Ultra Soft: I use both clear and green and they are both visible in clear water, but I think the green blends better. In stained water, either is fine. 8-)
