  1. X2 8-) Congratulations!
  2. No. I said you fish them in the same places and with the same movement. The Fat Ika has a different profile and significantly different action. The Fat Ika is an alternative to the Senko and sometimes produces a better bite. 8-) p.s. A couple of posts were modified or deleted. This is not going to be another thread arguing which stick bait is better. Been there, done that. If you have something positive to contribute, please do. Otherwise, start a new thread or add your comment to a thread discussing other brands. And by the way, this is exactly how "Senko" posts will be handled on another brand's thread.
  3. Hey guys! I have had some great mornings throwing the 3/8 oz Cavitron, black on black. The buzzbait creates a strong bubble trail, comes on plane quickly and produces a unique chirping sound. If you haven't tried one, you need to! 8-)
  4. So true. I seriously considered trying to develope this skill, but Fish Chris made the point on another thread that you just cant' be quick enough when you really need it. Not that he knows anything about big fish, but that was good enough for me. Modern drag sytems are excellent. I have never had an issue and some of my pet brown fish have tested the drag a time or two. I have a great deal of confidence in my equipment when it's properly set...and it always is! 8-)
  5. I wonder if they will debute a new Celery Stix? 8-)
  6. The ULTIMATE BAD: High wind with freezing temperatures and rain, fishing in chocolate milk. Been there once, but it won't happen again. >
  7. You California boys are so spoiled... Nice fish! 8-)
  8. The biggest problem with using a scale is that weighing the fish almost always reduces its weight! :
  9. I think you will like #6 better than #8 on spinning tackle. The difference in absolute strength is nominal, but the #6 is more manageable. You will notice some initial coiling due to storage on the spool. After a few casts this will disappear. As Ronnie suggested, treat your line with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner and you will reduce the memory even further, very close to the limpness of braid. 8-)
  10. Welcome aboard! Here's my take: Spinning gear: Finesse fishing Baitcasting gear: Power fishing For the most part, I fish all soft plastics and light lures on spinning tackle. Medium and heavy weight hard lures, as well as jigs, on baitcasting equipment. I have a particular preference for baitcasters on all "moving" lures. That said, all lures and techniques can be fished on either type of gear. Many of our members are "spinning only" or "baitcasting only". It really boils down to personal preference. Although I like both styles equally, I have a strong preference for one over the other for specific applications. 8-)

  14. Well, I like 'em jumpin', especially the brown fish! : My suggestion is to just maintain maximum pressure (tension) and make them come your way or run. Matt(lures) gave me some particularly good advice for landing fish on his Baby Bass: Bring 'em to you, RIGHT NOW! No playing, no messing around. 8-)
  15. If you examine the knots closely, the Uni, Trilene, Improved Clinch and San Diego Jam are fundamentally the same knot. I generally tie the Palomar Knot, but with thicker line and bigger lures, I tie the others. Most recently I've been tying the Jam without any issues. 8-)
  16. "Please read through the instructions manual before completing this form." Note: If you are blind and cannot read, refer to Section E, paragraphs 3-6. :

  19. Huh? Reply #1 - Today at 07:33:14* I have the Lamiglas SR705R designed by Skeet Reese. This is the perfect rod for deep cranking and fishing any big, treble hook lure. The design, components and craftmanship are top notch and the rod balances well with a fullsize reel. Mine is matched with a Shimano CTE200GT. As a bonus, the rod is currently on sale at Cabela's: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0037314120919a&typ...
  20. Excellent! However, the smallmouth Fish Chris caught last year makes for an even better story. 8-)

  23. Well, some of the rod builders and a few guys that actually know something about rod components and construction have withdrawn their posts and quit responding. Questioning how a rod is built, blank composition, guides and reel seats seems like a legitimate approach. When the Carrot Stix was introduced at ICAST, the hype revolved around a new material used for constructing the rod blank. How do carrot fibers improve or effect the physical integrity of the rod? Are carrot fibers actually "incorporated" in the blank, superficially added or are there actually any organic materials being used? For those that already have a collection of equipment, exotic gear is fun, regardless of function. However, when a new rod is an "important" purchase, knowing a little more about what you are getting comes into play. I had an opportunity to handle Carl's rig at Guntersville, but did not get to fish with the Carrot Stix. If felt great to me, but that doesn't address legitimate issues that others have asked. "Tastes Great!" "Less Filling!" Both observations may be true, but some people are still curious as to "What's in it?" :
