  1. This has been a tough year. This region has been in a drought for nearly two years and the TVA water release schedule has not been good for weekend warriors. However, we have picked up a few and last weekend Neal (BassResource.com member ss140) caught a couple of beauties! Here are a few pics from outings the last few months. The pigs Neal caught are from Saturday, February 23, 2008:
  2. Hmm... I don't know where you heard that, but nothing could be further from the truth. On certain bodies of water, bass or any other predator may have a preference for certain prey, but in the waters I fish bluegill are definitely not the primary forage. 8-)
  3. I have only fished below Wilson a couple of times, so I can't help much. What I can tell you is that you need to be VERY careful, there is lots of dangerous structure in that portion of the river. This is one of the primary reasons why Pickwick is such a productive smallmouth fishery. If at all possible, you really need to go a few times with someone who knows the river. Get in touch with our BR member, electrikal, and see if you guys can hook-up for a day. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?action=viewprofile;username=2920292F383E25272D204C0 Good luck! 8-)
  4. Norman Fat Boy, bluegill pattern. 8-)
  5. If you only buy one new jerkbait, the Rapala Husky Jerk Blue & Silver (HJ10). 8-)
  6. Maybe the "issues" with the Carrot Styx have been resolved, but it's still very difficult to determine what you are actually getting in this rod. Mystery components, reel seat, blank, country of origin...The rod that's being sold is not the rod that won awards. G. Loomis owners never complain and the IMX MBR844C has been around awhile. 8-)
  7. Well, if you're looking for an "all-around" rig for treble hook lures, the one I have that fits the bill is a St. Croix Avid AC66MF with a soft tip. Mine is matched up with a Metaniun, but a Citica CI100DSV would be dandy! I like having a light reel to balance the package. There are a couple of specific advantages to this combination: For lures you manuever more precisely (jerkbaits & topwater) this 6 1/2' rod is very manageable. For most true crank baits, the rod has just the right backbone for most fishing conditions. This rod and reel is also the one you will want to fish spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. This is a great all-around baitcaster set-up. Now, for more specialized or technique specific rigs, I have a few others: Big, deep running lures: Lamiglas SR705R/ Shimano CTE200GT Light, shallow cranks: St. Croix Avid AC70MM/ Chronarch Power cranking, heavy spinnerbaits and small swimbaits: St. Croix Legend Elite EC70MHF/ Shimano Calais I fish Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 on all baitcasters. Good luck! :
  8. Welcome aboard! 8-)

If you can't find them close to home, they can be ordered direct: http://***/cgi-bin/order/92F-10 8-)
  10. Another thread with more suggestions: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1199915688 8-)
  11. This might help: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1196114229 8-)
  12. Fish Chris and LBH use spinning tackle exclusively. I think Fish's biggest freshwater catch was only 300 lbs (sturgeon), but you could probably catch some real size with this gear! He also throws some swimbaits on spinning rigs that are bigger than most tournament bass. It can be done. 8-)
  13. Well, you need to add a few lures to that list, for sure: Fat Ika Senko Micro Munch Tackle El Gordo or Mizmo Grande tubes Rat-L-Trap Cavitron Buzzbait (already suggested) 8-)
  14. That's a fine fish and a great pic! 8-)
  15. The line floats on its own, but don't confuse that with causing any type of lure or bait to float. This feature has absolutely no impact on fishing weightless soft plastics. 8-)
  16. I fish "The Rocks From Hell" on the Tennessee River and associated reserviors. I have also fished it in timber and gunk (Lake Fork). If I were fishing pads or heavy vegetation on a regular basis, I might fish braid for strength and more importantly, cutting power. For me, braid would definitely be a "specialty line". p.s. Just to note that I'm not completely stuck in a rut, I'm currently experimenting with #15 orginal Hybrid on a couple of rigs. The biggest problem I have had with this line so far is that it is almost impossible to break if you are not in a boat or have plenty of room to manuever on the bank. For some, this might be an advantage, but the jury is still out for me. 8-)
  17. It's always hard to tell from a picture, but it might go 4... : Well, after taking a closer look, I would say definitely four if you had dressed it and just weighed the head... 8-) p.s. Nice pic, too!
  18. Well, my solution is simple: Spinning tackle: #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft Baitcasting gear: #12 Ultra Soft I have never been broken of by a fish using these lines. 8-)
  19. Here's a thread that might help: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1143177139 Three specific suggestions: 3/8 oz Cavitron Buzzbait GYCB Kreatures KaRu VibraSpin 8-)
  20. Good luck! Post some pics. 8-)
  21. ;D ;D ;D WOO-HOO! ;D ;D ;D Congratulations! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D 8-)
  22. You and the wife should try to make it to Guntersville with us. We have several couples attending. This is not a "boys" trip. I'm sure both of you would enjoy the fishing and comorodary. Details are in the top portion of the "General" section and on the Guntersville website Alpster and ghoti have set up. I hope you can make it to the outing. 8-)
