  1. Welcome aboard! I think you will be very pleased with both of the new rigs. After fishing them awhile, post your own review! 8-)
  2. Welcome aboard! You have already gotten some good advice. This is the perfect time to throw jerkbaits. 8-)
  3. I'm so sorry for you and the family involved, but I'm even more angry. This kind of story brings out the vigilanty in me. When the perp is caught, I hope the only decision that's made is whether the POS was shot and killed resisting arrest or trying to escape. >
  4. You need another pic. The shades are perfect and the lighting is pretty cool, but the bass is way too big! 8-)
  5. Inserted jig heads create a twirling action when the tube sinks. Sometimes this is the key for catching actively feeding smallmouth. However, if you are fishing on the bottom, especially dragging bottom, an inserted tube weight and an offset worm hook rigged weedless is way better! 8-)

No, I haven't tried any other hook size, although I do fish XPoints, too. My hook-up ratio is very high and I don't recall ever having a bait taken deep. When I detect a stike I lower my rod tip while at the same time reeling down quickly and then apply a "snap set" or what is sometimes called a quick set. Because this lure is fished weightless, fish have no leverage when trying to throw the bait. If my hook-up ratio is north of 95%, my landing ratio is much greater! 8-)
  7. Yesterday's fiasco was absolutely RIDICULOUS! >
  8. Welcome aboard! We have a few Texans that will give you some suggestions when they see this thread. If you have your sights set on a couple of lakes in particular, several guys have fished it! Post that on here when you narrow it down a little. 8-)
  9. Hey! I know who you were fishing with that other 1% of the time! :
  10. You can fish just about everything you would normally fish on a river with one rod. I suggest a Medium Power/ Fast Action spinning rod. You don't "need" anything else. 8-)
  11. "Dark" or some shade/ combination of white or white and silver. Sometimes chartreuse. There are times when a particular color or accent is crucial, but for the most part, colors are for catching fisherman, not fish. 8-)
  12. My main rig for smallmouth fishing is a G.Loomis GLX PR844S/ Stella 2500FB, #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 and Gamkatsu Octopus Circle Hooks size 6. We fish big, live shiners in a split shot rig. For soft plastics St. Croix Legend Elited ES70MF/ Stella 2500FB and Ultra Soft #6. With hard baits, line size is not an issue. I fish a baitcaster and #12 for these lures. 8-)
  13. Relax, enjoy the moment and hope she jumps again! Giant leaps and tailwalking is what makes fishing so exciting, especially when it's bronze and has stripes! <-------------8-)
  14. ;D ;D ;D ;D I think ghoti has an opening, but if you don't get something lined up with another member, we'll make room in our 3-bed cabin if a floor mattress or the couch works for you. Let's see how things shake-out, but that's an invitation to you. -Kent

Weedless and weightless; skirt forward on a Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook. 8-)
  16. I fish Craig DeFronzo's Micro Munch Tackle Jig, the Evolution Jig from MegaStrike and recently bought some GMAN's jig. So, BassResource jigs! 8-)
  17. I still plan to buy the BCR854 and match it up with a Shimano Core, but when Reed's first put their St. Croix rods on sale I picked up a Legend Elite EC70MHF for $204! After buying a couple of reels from Redlinerobert, I did a little switch-aroo with my reels and bought another Avid (AC70MM) for $110. So, the new rigs ended up filling a few niches for an overall "better match": EC70MHF/ Calais CL200 AC70MM/ Chronarch AC66MF/ Metanium I keep telling The Bait Monkey, "I don't really need another rig". He says I'm wrong! 8-)
  18. Welcome aboard! I'm sure you will enjoy your new rig. 8-)
  19. basspaddler, I agree with you in principal. The referenced quote from me was dated August 2007. In December I suggested, specifically to the Shimano Possee, that people stop proping "their brands" on the threads asking about other brands. This is not a Foum policy and is not moderated. However, I have tried to abide by this guideline. 8-)
  20. Man, that describes my dad's box practically piece by piece. I have his "Green Box". 8-)
  21. Busted: Re: Shimano Curado vs. Johnny Morris signature ??? Reply #24 - Feb 22nd 2008 at 22:54:08 I wouldn't even consider either one. You should get a Quantum Tour Edition PT or Energy PT. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1203641286/24#24 :
  22. I hope you get more replies because my next rod is going to be the BCR854, too. GMAN has both and has said that he prefers the BCR, but I don't recall exactly why. Maybe some of the other guys will be around later. 8-)
  23. Hmm... I fished P-Line for a couple of years before discovering Yo-Zuri Hybrid and later, hybrid Ultra Soft. Memory was always an issue with P-Line and in cold weather it was MUCH worse! I have been using Ultra Soft #12 (19.5 lb test) on all of my baitcasters for a couple of years. Recently I found a super deal on a 1 lb spool of #15 original formula Hybrid which I am experimenting with on a few rigs, and my jig rod in particular. I think you would like the line and it doesn't cost much to give it a try. 8-)

Really? The Fat Ika has been my #1 producer for a couple of years. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141053342 8-)
