  11. I'm not surprised, but relieved. Some recent comments suggesting the Palomar Knot was not 100% or something close were disturbing. Although I have never had any issues with "strength", I do use other knots for big, treble hook lures. Usually the other knots were Uni or Trilene, but recently I have been tying the San Diego Jam. All three of these knots and the Improved Clinch are fundamentally the same. 8-)
  12. +1 ;D ;D EXCELLENT work Fourbizz! 8-)
  13. I have one with the handle on the "correct" side. : This reel is built like a tank with the features of a Lexus. I have mine saddled to a St. Croix Legend Elite EC70MHF. I don't consider the rig heavy because it is well balanced. I like them all, but this has become my favorite. 8-)
  14. For whatever reason, I don't have much luck with jigs on the Tennessee River. One HUGE part of the problem is the gnarly structure I fish. Life expectancy for a jig is short, very short! 8-)
  15. This is my favorite lure class. I have a large collection of Rogues, X-Raps, Husky Jerks, Pointers and Stacey. The Lucky Craft Pointers are VERY well made and my most productive jerkbaits. The Rapala X-Rap is also VERY well made. The Blue & Silver Husky Jerk is a "must have". For years I have fished Smithwick Rogues. They are a POS, but when they work right, are VERY productive. (If you buy Rogues, test them and take the ones that are defective or BECOME defective back for exchange). 8-)
  16. They work just fine in stained water, too. 8-)

Every state has a department that checks grocery store scales and other businesses that sell by weight. Call them and they can tell you where to go or where to send the scales.
  18. The low-end digitals do not stand up over time. My low-tech Rapala (7 years old) can be calibrated and it's 100% accurate for general fishing, although incremental ounces have to be estimated (10-8 not 10.515). 8-)
  19. Rapala Spring Scale: http://www.marinetackle.com/xcart/catalog/rapala-pro-guide-mechanical-15-50lbs.html (I have this one) or the BPS copy: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_60605_100011004_100000000_100011000_100-11-4 8-)

  22. Almost all your fishing can be done with one rod, spinning or baitcasting. I would suggest Medium Power/ Fast Action. This rod is especially suited for single hook lures. Two rods are better. The second would be Medium or Medium Heavy Power with a soft tip. This is the rod for ALL treble hook lures. After that, it's all about "want" and there is a lot to choose from. Application and your perception of sensitivity is VERY subjective. I fish high-end, technique specific rods because I enjoy collecting equipment that I consider "perfect" for a specific purpose. I do NOT "need" these rods to "catch" fish, but my "fishing" is more fun! 8-)
  23. I'm not sure which is the most important tackle, line or hooks, but one is THE most important and the other a very close second. The advantage of copolymers vs. monofilament is additional line strength for a given diameter. Additionally, copolymers generally have greater abrasion resistance and last much longer because they do not absorb water and are not effected by UV light. 8-)
