  1. Everyone raves about the 854 (my next rod), but I haven't seen much on the 853. For 3/4 oz jigs in deep water, the 854 is probably the ticket. 8-)
  2. My grandfather lived to be 78. He told me the secrets to longevity were these: #1 Pick the right parents #2 Smoke whenever you are upright or sitting down #3 Drink at least one bottle of wine per day, more if you can get it #4 ** MOST IMPORTANT ** Avoid exercise at all cost!
  3. What if you were fishing a lure you didn't want to lose or actually caught a fish? This is a line that should not be used by anyone, regardless of the cost. >
  4. Early, start with "moving" baits. Rat-L-Trap type lures or jerkbaits might be the ticket, Grubs rigged on a jig head is another suggestion. Later, a jig might be right. 8-)
  5. Rainbow long billed cap, chartreuse blouse, pink capris and white flip-flops. Man, that's a pretty picture!
  6. My dedicated jerkbait rod is a St. Croix Avid AC66MF which has a soft tip. The length and Fast Action allows me control and manuever jerkbaits and topwater; the soft tip cushions the pressure on the treble hooks. I think it's perfect! At night, I'm not comfortable with baitcasting equipment. After dark I fish jerkbaits on a Fenwick Techna AV AVS70MM spinning rod. 8-)
  7. ;D ;D ;D EXCELLENT! ;D ;D ;D 8-)
  8. I use the Palomar Knot for single hooks and some lures, but for big lures I do just fine with the Uni, Trilene or more recently, San Diego Jam Knot. The Palomar is cumbersome to tie long plugs with treble hooks! 8-)
  9. It's not too late to make arrangements for Guntersville! Hope to see you there. 8-)
  10. You're probably right! Otherwise it should be GL3? I guess will wait to hear from G3 Fan to clear this mystery up. 8-)
  11. Man, I would forget all about tournament fishing and focus on that lake. 8-)
  12. I thought that was why they invented spinning tackle. : 8-)
  13. Just like Double Mint gum: double your pleasure, double your fun! Plus, if you had found your first post we would not have seen your pet dinosaur! 8-)
  14. I like that idea, a lot! If you decide to go with the G. Loomis, the 783 will have more of the backbone you are looking for. As a sidenote, I believe the SJR783 is their most popular spinning rod. And one more suggestion: Although your screen name implies a preference for the GL3, the IMX series is where you want to be, if you can. Purchasing either of these rods doesn't really require a trip to BPS. You will be happy with whichever you choose. 8-)
  15. I wouldn't fish Iron Silk if someone paid me $20! This line is so poor, I think Berkley has discontinued the product, or at least I could not find it on their website. Stay away from Iron Silk! >
  16. Me, too! I just stumbled across the site. I had never joined a forum of any kind before. 8-)
  17. Don't know anything about the rod, but I was one of the first to buy a U.S. Reel. Others have stated that the current models are pretty good. (I think Randall posted a glowing report featuring a DD bass he caught!) However, my experience with the original would prevent me from ever buying another. 8-)
  18. ** MODERATOR NOTE ** Must have overlooked this one recently. Anyhow, off-topic and referenced posts have been deleted. Muddy's was left up just because it strikes me as funny! Let's stay on-topic, please. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  19. Man, that's the ticket! Try it before you buy it. 8-)
  20. Mrs. Matstone, Most of our boys have nothin' on you! That's quite a collection. 8-)
  21. Welcome aboard! I think you will feel right at home. We have a few Texans around here! 8-)
  22. Most of us face a different issue. : "I'm not overweight, I just need to be 6 inches taller!" 8-)
