  1. Woo-Hoo! Man, I haven't been this excited about a new television series in decades. Terminator, T-2 & 3 are my favorite movie series. I guess The Terminator wasn't kidding, "I'll be baaack!"
  2. Maybe these threads will help: Fat Ika: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141053342 Kreature: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1180909581
  3. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  4. Nice report, nice fish and GREAT pics! 8-)
  5. I have a Fenwick Techna AV AVS70MM matched up with a Shimano Sustain 2500. This is EXACTLY what you are looking for. I actually bought it to fish jerkbaits at night, but have only used it a few times. If you're interested, I would sell the combination for $300 plus shipping. p.s. Although the rig is virtually brand new, I had ReelMech service the reel last year when I sent in some other stuff. I don't think it's been used since then. I have two spools for the reel, too.
  6. I HIGHLY recommend a rubber net. This will get you started and then maybe you can find someone to add the bling-bling! http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_30227_100011006_100000000_100011000_100-11-6
  7. Most members of the Shimano Possee think the Symetre is the "best value" in the Shimano line-up. I'm sure you will be very happy with this reel.
  8. I suggest only buying lures that are recommended by people you know or trust. Here are some ideas: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1143177139 Here are some other suggestions when you are starting out: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1182371999 One more: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1180501296
  9. I would recommend a 6 1/2' or 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action spinning rod.

Well, right NOW probably isn't the right time for anything in your area. Fishing a jig is generally slow and can be tedious for a lot of fishermen. I would suggest holding off jigging or any new technique for a few months. If there is something that's working for you right now, stick with that for the time being.
  11. Well, here's the long version: I have been fishing Ultra Soft #12 on all my baitcasters for about two years. After a few casts, the line has virtually NO MEMORY. Strength is a non-issue unless you think it is a little too strong. (Like Alpster, I have had to cut the line when fishing in a kayak). The only issue I have had is kinks that occur sometimes when you get a nasty backlash. The line is a bonded (not coated) fluorocarbon/ nylon copolymer. When the line is severely creased, I think the fluoro cracks which creates a visible kink or weak spot. You need to be aware of that and replace the line at that point. (I'm an "add-on" guy. I only fish about 80-100 yards of line on top of backing, I rarely respool totally). So, what I have found is that on rigs I rarely backlash, the line lasts indefinately. On others, I add-on occasionally. Now, something new. I found a super sale on original formula Hybrid, 1 lb (3,000 yards) of #15. This line has memory and retains a lot of it initially from being stored on a reel. However, this stiffness resolves itself when using heavy lures. Also, thicker line does not backlash easily and does NOT kink! I am experimenting with this set-up on three rigs and so far it's working. To answer your question: I think #12 Ultra Soft is all you need, but #15 will probably eliminate the kinking issue and will still have very little memory. However, if you go to #15, it will be VERY difficult to break, so take that into consideration. And one final note: I just spooled up #6 Ultra Soft in green which looks like braid and is why I have always used clear. As it turns out, in the gin clear water of my swimming pool, this line is TOTALLY invisible! I'm amazed, green with this diameter (.010") is a PERFECT match to water. I think this might carry over in the thicker lines.
  12. Congratulations to all and a VERY SPECIAL ;D ;D ;D ;D WOW! ;D ;D ;D ;D to Catt. 8-)
  13. I don't think treble hooks will work that way. I store mine in Plano plastic boxes arranged in the tackle bag.
  14. Well, I REALLY like Sammy's! So, my next suggestion is the 3/8 oz Cavitron Buzzbait. I had particularly good luck with the black on black combination, but it was the only one I fished!
  15. When pale white people start popping up all over the place? When "old people" start showing up at YOUR favorite buffet around 4:00? :
  16. Welcome aboard! George Welcome guides on Stick Marsh/ Farm 13 and is a Senior Member of the Forum. If you are looking for a guide, he is HIGHLY recommended. If not, you might send him a message and I suspect he will give you some suggestions for the area. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1199453494
  17. First of all, Welcome aboard! +1 8-)
  18. Never had smoked gizzard shad.
  19. Well, if you are fishing for BIG fish in the Mid South, on the Mississippi River around Memphis, you need a pool stick! BPS carries "Big Catfish" designed by James Patterson. That is a 100 lb fish rod! If you're just after "Yankee" fish, under 50 lbs, any heavy rod will work. I catch lots of 20+ catfish on the Tennessee River when I am fishing for smallmouth on a MF spinning rod and #4 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. With a little patience, catfish are *******.
  20. I think the Beaver Double Wide is a FANTASTIC jig trailer! 8-)
  21. No! We're not. Great fish, great pic! 8-)
  22. Another name for a "kitty cat"? 8-)
  23. Nice fish...This time of year in New England! : 8-)
