Trout Pictures
When German brown trout get over about 5 lbs, they are stronger ounce for ounce than a smallmouth. Size matters! 8-)

What makes a good fishing partner?
I invite mine. It's an ongoing joke...she doesn't fish. : 8-)

Shallow crankin reel?
If you want to consider a round reel, the Shimano CTE200GT is 5.0:1. I have this reel on a deep cranking rig and on my jig rig. It's small, smooth, powerful and virtually indestructable.

Really good spinnerbaits?
I like the original Terminator T-1 (titanium-framed): http://www.terminatorlures.com/06site/t1_open.html

Octopus Hooks...
I fish #6 Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hooks exclusively when fishing live shiners for smallmouth. These are fished on a split shot rig, with spinning tackle and #4 Yo-Zuri Hybrid. However, when fishing circle hooks you do NOT "set the hook". When the fish strikes, you simply raise the rod tip and reel- the fish sets the hook. Even if the bait is initially taken deeply, the hook will slide up the inside of the mouth and usually (90% of the time) lodge in the side joint of the fish. Occasionally the hook will set in the roof of the mouth and sometimes on the lip. The advantages of circle hooks are three fold: 1. You will hang up less often because you don't set the hook on limbs and rocks. 2. The hooks are "fish friendly" and rarely result in a gut hook. 3. Once hooked-up, fish cannot throw the hook. Landing percentages are well over 95%.

Affordable rods, spinning and baitcasters..what are some of the good ones??
Well, right now the rod line that stands head and shoulders above the crowd is the St. Croix Avid. If you can find the rod you want, some of our members (Fish Tank?) picked a couple up for $65. Anything around $100 would be a great deal!

Rod for jerkbaits
I fish a St. Croix Avid AC66MF which has a soft tip. You might find this rod on closeout for as little as $65.

Perhaps, "Suddenly, I saw the light". :

St. Croix Rod...Deal..or.....No Deal!!!!!!
Shop around and find an Avid on clearance. One of our members found them for $65, but lots of guys have bought them for less than $100. This is by far, the Best Bang For The Buck!

What makes a good fishing partner?
Compatibility. My partner likes to fish as much or more than me; drinks beer all day; used to smoke, now chews; cares about BIG fish only; fishes high-end gear and owns a boat I helped pick out. I let him operate the boat so long as I am always in the perfect spot. He bought a cabin for himself and his family, but I have my own room. We also have kids that are almost the same age and grown. We both like to eat large and drink wine and/or whisky at night. Coincidently, we even have comparable homes, cars, trucks and SUVs. I get along better with my partner than my wife!

You know what grinds my grears
If the woman were to lose control of her vehicle which resulted in her death and killing those children, do YOU want to be responsible for that kind of tragedy? Seriously...DO YOU THINK THAT'S FUNNY?
-
You know what grinds my grears
DUDE! That is dangerous behavior and TOTALLY unacceptable. >

Favorite squarebill crankbait and y?
I caught my PB largemouth on a Norman Fat Boy. I also like the Bomber Square A. I bought several of the Lucky Craft RC 2.5 & 3.5 on sale last year during the BPS Fishing Classic (spring sale), but I haven't actually gotten around to fishing them! 8-)

Would it be worth the effort...
I think that's flechero's main lake. If he doesn't respond to this post, send him a PM. When I fish for lake striper, we fish over deep water where schools of baitfish are being shadowed by striper. Generally, this is in open water, sometimes in what appears to be the middle of a cove or an arm of the lake. Rarely (never) is this type of fishing associated with cover or structure. Under those conditions, I think it would be a complete waste of time to fish for bass.
