Rat'l Trap
Well, who can argue with KVD? Still, I think "where" you fish is far more important than "how" you fish. I have good success with a steady retrieve around stucture and/or cover. My experience has been that the "speed" of your retrieve is important, sometimes slow, at other times fast. When fish are active and aggressive, burning a lure back to you can be very rewarding.

On average, 25.5" would be around 10lb 4oz. Print this chart out for future reference: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9222.html You'll notice 25" = 9 lb 10 oz. The difference between 24.5" and 25" is 10 oz. Adding the additional 1/2", 9-10 + 10 = 10lb 4oz, but that may be slightly underestimating actual weight. At any rate, a GREAT fish!

Is Fuji really the I Ching of rod components?
I kinda of dreaming about a "very special" blank on a custom. How much for the Gold Cermets? :

decisions, decisions....
Welcome aboard! For me it would be a no brainer: G.Loomis and a Shimano Curado are a match made in heaven. I think is is more important to focus on quality, not quantity. Build your arsenal one at a time. The Loomis/ Shimano combination is one that you will fish the rest of your life. 8-)

Lightest High-speed baitcast reel
I don't know, I have a Shimano Calais, but it's 6.2:1. I'm planning to buy the new Core which is one of the reels you might want to consider: http://fish.shimano.com/catalog/fish/products/group_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302053093&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181270&bmUID=1189765930794

Looking for some good Line, low visibility
Original formula Yo-Zyuri Hybrid comes very close to pure fluorocarbon in terms of visibility. I has very little memory compared to the Vanish you have been using. I would suggest the green for clear water, it matches most water very nicely. spinning tackle: #6 (11.9 lb test) Baitcasting gear: #12 (19.5 lb test)

HUMBERTO
Well, to lighten up the conversation... I don't wish the destruction on anyone, but hurricanes are nature's way of distributing heat and moisture around the planet. I am ALL ABOUT a few hurricanes sending some rain up my way, and I AIN"T KIDDING! Bring it on... The forcast here is 1-3". I want a twice that and the same amount next week; and the week after that; and the following week. We need rain!

Why a Baitcaster.....Snaps- Leaders
I know... Today's high-end equipment gives everyone the opportunity to fish EXACTLY what they like.

Why a Baitcaster.....Snaps- Leaders
Only sissies use spinning equipment! Okay, that was suppose to be funny. Some people only fish one style of equipment. My take is: Spinning equipment = finesse fishing Baitcasting gear = power fishing I don't use snaps, but lots of guys do. I think lighter lures and lighter line are easier to work with on spinning gear. I use this equipment for all soft plastics, too. On the otherhand, heavier line works well on baitcasters and they are much more user friendly when fishing "moving" lures. In general, baitcasters are stronger and feel more stout than spinning tackle. As I noted, I use both and like them equally, but I do have a STRONG preference for one over the other for specific techniques and lures.

Ky lake fishing report
I'm pretty excited about throwing that bait this fall up river a piece. It just looks like something those brown fish would like. And congrats on your 5.1, even if was a green trout! Thanks for the report. 8-)

I suck at cranking.
When you are on or near structure and/or cover, sometimes you can just chunk and wind. My PB was caught on a Fat Boy with a straight, steady, parallel retrieve along a drop. This area could also be described as "open water over structure." Bass were staging in the deeper water picking off bluegill that ventured a little to far from the bank. The strike was a solid feeding bite, violent and aggressive.

Ideal rod for the Ikas.
Everything I see posted with a comment about the BCR enthusiastically supports this rod series. It's something I would take a really close look at before buying another MBR. That said, for the application you are talking about, my GLX MBR844C is a VERY effective tool. However, I fish nearly all soft plastics, including the Fat Ika, on spinning tackle: St. Croix Legend Elite, ES70MF matched up with a Stella 2500FB, Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft and Gamakatsu or XPoint 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hooks.

Bitter Rivalry?????
I graduated from Missouri. We used to have that kind of rivalry with the Jayhawks (KU), but for the last 30 years or so, neither team has been worth fighting for! Prior to '03, Missouri hadn't beaten Nebraska in 25 years (1978). My wife and I attended that game with local Husker fans in Lincoln. The Cornhusker fans and our hosts were very nice, my wife wasn't. My wife is "Banned For Life" from Nebraska. :

Best bass rods and reels
There is not an objective answer to that question. Like Reelmechanic said, budget is a good beginning. There is no "best" just "favorite."

Fat Ikas......Where to Purchase?
Well, if you are looking at specific colors and Brad can't help, GYCB direct may be the only answer. These are the colors I fish: Watermelom w/ black flake Watermelon w/ red & black flake Green pumpkin w/ black flake Black with blue flake That's not to say that other colors might work as well or better, those are just the ones I fish.

Funny way to promote this
Clever. That reel has been well cared for or at least "has a lot looking over it."
