  1. Welcome aboard! New subdivision ponds are not promising. You are going to have to find out if the pond was stocked and when. There is no point fishing if there aren't any fish or any fish big enough to bite a bait. Also, try to find out what the average depth is and if any structure was created when the pond was built. If this is just a holding pond for run-off, I'm afraid you may be out-of-luck. Now, for a gereral start. At the top of the page you will see "Fishing Aticles." Inside this topic category is a section called "Beginning Anglers." It will take some time, but read them all and take a few notes. Everything you need to know to get started is there. Then come back with questions and the members will gladly help you find some answers. Good luck!
  2. Welcome aboard! Copolymers are a blend of more than one monofilament (nylon) or fluorocarbon component. For example, Yo-Zuri Hybrid is a bonded (not coated) nylon/ fluorocarbon blend. Hybrid Ultra Soft has a higher proportion of nylon which makes it softer (less memory). Copolymers tend to over-test (breaking strength), but are often stiffer (more memory) than single component monofilaments. There always seems to be trade-offs when searching for the magic formula. p.s. I know you originally placed this post in the Professor's section. To ask him a question, send a personal message (PM) as Glenn describes here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1165888992
  3. Lures get popular very fast when the pros start admitting to winning tournaments with them. I expect to see that shortly. I suspect that happening now, but it's still quiet. We'll see.
  4. Most of my biggest largemouth, except my PB, have been caught on a 6" Senko. My PB was fooled by a Norman Fat Boy, bluegill pattern. I expect to catch my next 10+ on a Fat Ika, they have been my best overall producer for big bass the last two years.
  5. Still alive and well. This is the first I have heard about message problems, we'll have to look into that, too. The "ex member" problem popped up two days ago and we are still working on it. Sometimes I'm "ex" and sometimes not...it's still a mystery. I'll post the chili receipe later today or tomorrow in "Everything Else."
  6. Great story, beautiful fish. Congratulations!
  7. Excellent!
  8. nboucher, You sir, were a perfect gentleman. Your post is exquisite, but your personal friendliness and wit exceeds that which is easily written. For someone I had never met and only socialized with for brief periods of time, you presented yourself with charm and style. Your's is a great post, it speaks volumes for my exact feelings about the camaraderie at Lake Fork. Fishermen and women from all parts of the country and many walks of life getting together for a "Trip of a Lifetime" with no preconceived agenda other than fishing. Man, that's just too cool!
  9. Alive and well... The odd thing is, sometimes I'm "ex" and sometimes not. Gonna get the bull whip out and fix this thing! I suspect it's either a Daiwa, Garcia or Pflueger bug in the system... These guys have been getting way too much play lately. :
  10. Hi!

  12. Plus, your third PB spread 21 years apart! CONGRATULATIONS! I think ya got two more in-ya...
  13. I actually fish a few other colors, but watermelon with black flakes could probably cover it all. Black with red flakes is color specific on a couple of lakes and some variation of white seems special sometimes. That said, color is WAY overrated.
  14. Yes, but that's only part of the story. I'm not going to spoil it by saying anymore, but you'll get a kick out of his story.
  15. Triton21 has a great story to tell. Look for it shortly.
  16. So, do you need some suggestions on where to go and what to fish? : I hope to see another picture of a new PB! ;D ;D ;D
  17. ** Moderator Note ** I have removed a couple of posts. ReelMech is one of our most esteemed members. I know you guys were just having fun, but for members that don't know David, I think these comments are inappropriate and have been deleted. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  18. Surprisingly, I would opt for the Shimano. :
  19. Although I am not faced with zebra mussels, the Tennessee River is lined with the Rocks From Hell. I find Yo-Zuri Hybrid to be just as tough as Trilene XT and Big Game, but far more managable. Give it a try, it might solve your problem.

    Excellent! Congratulations to you.
  21. I think you will find the 7' rod to be just as manageable as the 6 1/2' Loomis you are now using. Initially casting accuracy may be an issue, but that will come with time. Casting distance will improve slightly. The overall "feel" is comparable.
  22. If you are just beginning to build a tackle box, start out with a few time tested lures. Become proficient with them, then experiment with others. Here are a few ideas to get started: 1. Original Floating Rapala 2. Zara Puppy (black & silver) 3. Norman Fat Boy (bluegill pattern) 4. Terminator spinnerbait, a) white with silver willow blades, chartreuse & white 5. Rat-L-Trap (chrome & blue), maybe a crawfish pattern, too. That's all you need right now. All of these lures are excellent producers that can be fished with a basic cast and retrieved. When you are ready for finessee, the 5" Senko and Fat Ika are next on the list.

  25. So, for 2007 Shimano introduces their new, redesigned, state-of-the-art Curado for $199. Abu Garcia introduces their top-of-the-line Revo @ $199 and Daiwa reduces the price of their premier TD-Z to $199. Ain't that somethin'? The Daiwa Steez is intoduced at $449, plus $60 to the Shimano Calais at $389 to make a statement. Obviously the TD-Z was never really comparable to the Calais, so Daiwa kicks it up a notch and prices their new reel with some one-upmanship. Now the "hot" reel is the Steez so they place the TD-Z up against the Revo and Curado for awhile and probably discontinue the model that would otherwise be cannabilized by their other product introductions. Man, this is too cool and everyone benefits! Maybe Shimano will reprice the Calais to $199 and reduce the Calais DC to compete at the same pricing point as the Steez. For everyone interested in high-end reels, this is heaven. What I am really anxious to see is how the market receives the Steez rods priced at +$95 to top end G.Loomis GLX. I will be very surprised if that works out.
