  1. Take a look at these sites: http://www.infisherman.com/PondLinks/index.html Iowa is a good example and has fairly staight foreward suggestions, but some of the othe DNR sites will (obiously) be state specific. Baically, fish removal is a function of the carrying capacity of a given body of water. Some lakes and ponds can handle greater density than others.
  2. Congratulations!
  3. Your choice of equipment is a function of the size of fish you expect to catch. I fish a split shot rig on medium power spinning tackle and #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid for smaller fish (<20 lbs). When fishing for the big boys, heavy power baitcasting gear, #12 Hybrid. Live bait is the ticket on my river, but some guys pick up a few on Sassy Shad, silver spoons and bucktail jigs. Big Zara Spooks, Pencil Poppers and almost any minnow shaped jerkbait are effective when they are busting topwater. For trolling, Mann's 20+ will usually produce a few stripers. On the Tennessee River the bigger stripers tend to be holding deeper. We use a three-way swivel, 3 oz weight and a #2 Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hook. For spinning tackle, 3/8 oz split shot and the same hook. In turbulent water, the split shot rig tends to stay in the upper 2/3 of the water column.
  4. Must be a "bad batch." The line cannot be broken by hand, or at least I can't! It is strong and tough. If it was (generally) anything like you described, that would be TOTALLY unacceptable and I would never use it for anything. The spool you received had to be defective for some reason or another. When you get your new line I think you will like it, I do.
  5. This is a later thread that addresses specific applications: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1170467828/1#1
  6. Maybe we should make that reference thread a "Sticky." For now, I'm going to attach it to: Rods- "Power and "Action" Defined" (which is a sticky in the upper portion of this section.)
  7. That's a beauty! You're driving me CrAzY...
  8. BPS still has Silver Buddies, I recently bought a few. A very similar lure is the Cordell Gay Blade, also available at BPS.
  9. These are some great suggestions. I'll add a couple: Fat Ika (T-rigged, weightless & weedless) 3 1/2" Mizmo tube, Kent's Classic (squash green) GYCB Hula Grub (jig jead), Laminated Lizard (T-rigged, 1/8 oz weight)
  10. Welcome aboard!
  11. It's all about how we define "selective harvest." I am in TOTAL agreement with Fish Chris. Selective harvest is not for big fish. Keeping smaller bass is generally positive for most waters. Keeping big fish, especcially bass, is NEVER in anyone's best interest.
  12. Welcome aboard!

  15. Smooth, strong, silent and reliant. I have been very happy with Shimano reels. I fished some other brands over the years, but now Shimano is all I have. Although I have given away several of my reels over time, as far as I know every one I have ever owned is still in use. What has surprised me the most is that even though the reels are perfect right out of the box, they seem to get better with age. Last year I had ReelMech service two CTE200GT. One is my striper reel and has had significant use, the other was virtually brand new. I asked if he could tell which was which? He told me no, there was no sign of wear on either reel. I suspect I will be fishing these same reels for awhile.
  16. I fish Smithwick Rogues, Rapala Husky Jerks & X-Raps and Lucky Craft Pointers (78, 100 & 128). Catt's suggestion is a universal winner and the Rogues are relatively inexpensive. My favorite is the LC Pointer 100 (Baby Bass), but my biggest producer last year was a Rapala X-Rap (08) in white. This is my favorite lure category, so I have a few. 8-)
  17. I just finished packing. I have everything loaded except my shaving kit with toothbrush... I'm not leaving until Sunday morning! Nope, I'm not anxious, just a little excited.
  18. Fish_Chris has documented that this is, in fact, the SAME FISH he caught two days ago!
  19. WOW! This story just keeps getting better.
  20. Original Yo-Zuri #6 or maybe Gamma Copolymer (not fluorocarbon). Although I have NOT fished the Gamma, it is HIGHLY recommended by KU-Bassmaster. He fished the Yo-Zuri for a year or more, but has switched. I trust his judgement.
  21. That is really a matter of personal preference. I prefer Medium Power. Fish under 5 lbs are more fun to catch, but the Medium Power still has plenty of backbone for big bass.
  22. For deep cranking and all big treble hook lures I fish a Lamiglas SR705R glass rod. This was designed by Skeet Reese as a very technique specific rod: Heavy Power/ Slow Action. The rod components are top shelf, but surprisingly the rod is relatively inexpensive. List price was $210, but I was directed by Lamiglas to a dealer in their same building or nearby that sold me the rod for $160, to tax and no shipping charges. I don't recall the name, so if you decide to pursue this, you'll need to call Lamiglas.
  23. I HIGHLY recommend #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft for spinning tackle. #10 original is NOT going to work well for you. BTW, both original and Ultra Soft are bonded fluorocarbon/ nylon copolymers, they are not coated.
