Brand New To Bresource/1St Post/buying New Gear This Weekend ( Baitcasting & Spinning) High End (Opinions)
Sounds to me like you are a candidate for a couple of Mike's DVT custom rods. Ask him about building with RainShadow blanks from Batson. Maybe the Eternity or Immortal blank, Toray reel seat and Alps titanium guides. I think you can build the perfect rod for less than $500. http://www.delawarevalleytackle.com/ http://batsonenterprises.com/

The Wife
Talk to her about a personal budget for both of you. Neither of you should need the other's permission for occasional small purchases.

Action Changed To Power Rating???
Geez bill, do I need to pin your post so you don't ask the same or very similar question every week? Raul gave you a very simple explanation on a couple of occasions, I have posted this more technical piece more than once: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/35514-rods-power-and-action-%C2%A0defined/

Top Shelf, Newest Thang, Bargain, Last Years Model Fishing Rods?
I guess it is a matter of perspective. It seems to me we have a handful of "enthusiasts", but the overwhelming majority of our members fish "affordable" gear. My guess is that 90% of our guys are fishing combinations costing $100 or less AND fishing from the bank. The next 9% are +/` $250 and may have some kind of boat. Based on everything you (bigbill) post, I don't consider you frugal, just silly. I hope our younger guys take a different approach than yours and buy "better" equipment that they can build on over the years. I have spent 18 years acquiring 19 combinations or about one addition per year. Although there is quite a bit of overlap, I have technique specific gear for everything, but never actually carry more than 8 rods. When I fish ponds it's just one or maybe two at the most.

Lefty Or Righty?
Posted August 22 2007 - 11:37 AM Let's get technical, as there are in fact reasons, not just some lame holdover from days past that put the handles where they are. What will move the fish during retrieval is placed to the strong hand! A baitcast is designed to be used as a winch, so it is the reel that retrieves the fish. Hence if you are right handed the handle is in your right hand. A spinning reel is designed to pick up unloaded or loose line, not retrieve the fish. Hence it is the rod that does the retrieval, so it is the rod that is in your strong hand. If you are right handed then the pole goes to the right hand. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/36646-why-is-the-reel-handle-on-the-right-hand-side/
