  1. Fifty years ago, before I had ever heard of a Rapala, this was my #1 lure. I'm going to give it some focus this year. Does anyone else fish the Devil's Horse? http://www.lurenet.com/brands/smithwick-lures/smithwick-devils-horse
  2. That the thing with Shimano, set it and forget it. If you are only using one rig for everything, small adjustment may be needed, but for the most part, one and done!
  3. Well, I remember vividly how the Carrot Stiick was introduced. As time went on the rods broke easily, replacement and customer service vanished and the hype around some mysterious carrot particles disappeared. Maybe some of that this has changed now, but their reputation in tarnished. For those "collectors" that already own all the tackle they really need, experimenting with Kistler or any other brand it no big deal. However, for those that view the purchase of a new rod a BIG investment, I think there are better alternatives.
  4. I now have three Pinnacle rods which I have mixed and matched with the Pinnacle Reels I have reviewed, Shimano Core and Curados plus a heavier round reel, CTE200GT.I am please with the balance. The rods are responsive and crisp. I have no issues with the reel seats or any other components. I think Tournament Series is on par with G.Loomis IMX Series at a significantly lower pricing point. Let's throw in the St. Croix Avid Series, too. I am a big fan and consider these rods a great value.
  5. Really? The Pinnacle Tournament Series rods have received great reviews and they are well priced for about $160. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/pinnacle-optimus-xlt-dhc-review.html
  6. Simple example: Braid for mainline, fluorocarbon for leader. The advantage is very strong, manageable and long lasting braided line connected to nearly invisible, highly abrassion resistant fluorocarbon line. Also, when you need to break-off the florocarbon should break when braid would not.
  7. Ouh...That's a fatty!
  8. Candy's dandy, but liquor's quicker. PM anytime.
  9. That dog will hunt!
  10. Since it sounds like the knot is not going to come into play. I would use a simple blood knot. http://www.animatedknots.com/bloodknot/index.php?LogoImage=L
  11. You're set, congratulations!
  12. My wife and I are big time gardeners, but we only grow flowers and flowering shrubs. When I lived in Colorado we had a VERY well lighted laundry room and I built raised beds with artificial soil on our southern facing porch. We grew exotic tomatoes from seed planted in January in our sun room. We like jjuicy, highly acidic fruit, soft not meaty. You can't buy the varieties we grew at market, they don't ship well. However, the plants themselves are hardy and will do just fine in your garden.
  13. Well, I don't know about live snakes, but in all the years I have been a BR member I don't recall anyone every reporting catching a bass on a snake lure other than those associated with marketing the bait. If it worked I would think some of our trusted FL and LA members would know.
  14. If you want to start out with a simple and inexpensive program, this is my suggestion: Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 Baitcasting gear: Hybrid #12
  15. I have seen this statement often and my response is always the same: Although there are no industry standards. I consider Ande to be a proxy. Ande is IGFA certified and accounts for more World Records than all other lines combined. Yo-Zuri Hybrid line diameters match up VERY closely. #6 Hybrid .010" Ande .010" #12 Hybrid .013" Ande .014" If you are aiming for "line records', you should be using Ande exclusively. For a Certified World Record DO NOT use any filler, the heaviest line is what counts. For all other fishing, Hybrid offers a MUCH stronger line: #4 = 8.5lb breaking strength #6 = 11.9 lb breaking strength #12 = 19.5 lb breaking strength
  16. Rage Tail Craw, both PBJ and June Bug.
  17. Great advice! I would add the Norman Fat Boy to the mix.
  18. Rage Tail Menace is THE BOMB!
  19. I have tried InvizX on spinning tackle, but it just doesn't work for me. I currently have Yo-Zuri on two and Tatsu on another spinning rig. Hybrid #6 is very user friendly.
  20. Nice fish, GREAT story!
  21. My dedicated jerkbait rod is an Avid AVC66MF with a soft tip.
  22. BEE-U-TEE-FULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. I pay a lot more attention to my line and retie often: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/68635-huge-disappointment/
