  1. George Welcome Posted August 22 2007 - 11:37 AM Let's get technical, as there are in fact reasons, not just some lame holdover from days past that put the handles where they are. What will move the fish during retrieval is placed to the strong hand! A baitcast is designed to be used as a winch, so it is the reel that retrieves the fish. Hence if you are right handed the handle is in your right hand. A spinning reel is designed to pick up unloaded or loose line, not retrieve the fish. Hence it is the rod that does the retrieval, so it is the rod that is in your strong hand. If you are right handed then the pole goes to the right hand.

  3. Square bills and jerkbaits in the fall: Square bills:Nornam Fat Boy, Bomber Square A, KVD 2.5 Jerkbaits: Smithwick Rattlin' Rogue, LC Pointer
  4. Points, creeks, rip-rap, steep banks & cliffs, dead trees, grass, lilly pads, islands and ridges.
  5. I bought the original rod & reel package from Ray Scott. It was a POS, but a couple of our members swear by the newer models. The original reels were built in St. Louis, but I think they are now outsourced to China.
  6. And doesn't it drive you crazy when their last comment is "Whatever".
  7. BassResource.com has always supported this organization and our members are significant contributors. I believe we raised over $900 for the group at this year's banquet during the RoadTrip. The Moderators have designed custom jigs for Siebert Outdoors. Mike donates 75 cents for every Storm Series jig sold.
  8. Shimano has built a reputation as The Gold Standard in this category. Depending on your pricing point, the higher end Pinnacle spinning reels have had rave reviews. http://www.pinnaclefishing.com/shop/s-7-Spinning.aspx
  9. Sounds great. Nice pics, too!
  10. I don't fish light lures and my lighest jig is 1/4 oz + trailer, probably at least 3/8 combined. 3/8 + trailer gives you a lot more distance.
  11. Now back to what's really important in the SEC: http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/092313aac.html Mizzou-rah, Mizzou-rah, Mizzou-rah...rah, rah, RAH!
  12. I recently bought a Pinnacle Optimus XLT from one of our members on the Flea Market. The majority of my Shimanos were puchased from members as well.
  13. That's a slippery slope... You are not going to like your other reels as much as you probaly do now. I have both the 50 and 100. I prefer the feel of the 50 size. My 50 is saddled up on a G.Loomis MBR842C. As tomustang noted, I think the Core really shines with moving lures. This is my dedicated swim jig/ small swimbait rig.
  14. A friend of mine carries these for clients and I have used them fishing a Sabiki Rig for skipjack (bait). I think the reels are at least 5 years old and have never been serviced. It's a fine reel in it's category.
  15. Great people to work with!
  16. Take them back, new reels should be PERFECT.
  17. But despite what the elitists say, the "bass snobs" LOL, you can still catch many good size bass on spincasters. Well, that's true and you can catch fish on a sturdy stick using kite string and an old hook you find on the ground. However, I think most guys would agree that better gear makes the "fishing" more fun! Spincast reels are for kids, pan fish and people that don't fish regularly. The fishermen that are trying to advance their game are generally fishing baitcasters and/or spinning tackle.
  18. You just need to experiment and see what you like.
  19. I agree and would add that hiring the right guide can be the best thing you will ever do to rachet up your game quickly.
  20. Congratulations!
