  1. Ray Scott is an avid fisherman, but he is also a business man. He had a vision for B.A.S.S. and how to turn a hobby into a sport. To fund the new sport required sponsors and lure companies were a natural target. A little later a guy from Flippin, AR brought a boat he had custom built to a tournament in Alabama. Today we think of Forrest Wood and his Ranger Boats as the original bass boats. Ray Scott grew his dream and drew the top fishermen in the Midwest and Mid South to his events. Those Young Guns are today's Ole Tigers. Well beyond their accomplishments as fishermen, most of the original "pros" turned this hobby into their business. So, the "sport" has been built one brick at a time. Artificial lures are part of the tradition and lore. Fishing is much more today than just bringing food to the table. Did you know Ray Scott is responsible for that, too? He came up with the concept of Catch & Release, novel at the time.
  2. The Saint's won't do squat. I hope Saints fans kept their Ain'ts sacks. The punishment isn't enough for me. $500k... How 'bout their share of the entire season?
  3. For most treble hooks I am using Yo-Zuri Hybrid, but for jerkbaits, monofilament. Specifically Sunline SuperNatural #12.
  4. Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 Baitcasting gear: Hybrid #12
  5. I don't know, this whole deal smells fishy... If Denver is so smart, than how stupid are the guys in Indianapolis? Too stupid to tie their shoes I would say. So, the Colts traded their franchise player, most popular athlete in the history of the city and perhaps the future Governor of the state! Jezz!!!!!!!! You just cannot be that retarded. Or maybe they don't believe he can play anymore... If Peyton does not play, Denver has nothing.
  6. Hmm... I like fishing jigs so much I will usually fish one even when I know something else would be a better choice!
  7. As a longtime Bronco's fan, I am extremely disappointed in this decision. T-Bow brought excitement not just to Denver, but throughout the NFL. A man of character and grace, I wish him the very best!
  8. If you have a minute, tell them what you did to supertune my Curado's.
  9. http://des.nh.gov/organization/commissioner/pip/factsheets/bb/documents/bb-49.pdf The short answer is that a pond allows light to penetrate to the bottom, a lake does not.
  10. Yeah, but I only got one color!
  11. I suggest ultra-light gear, split shot rig and crickets. When you run out of crickets, use "parts", which will work just as well as whole bugs.
  12. My best color is Chrome & Blue, but you gotta have Red, too! Although I have had great luck with the XCalibur Xr50, the Red Eyed Shad has taken it over by a large margin. If you are using a steady retrive or ripping through grass, the XCalibur is fine, but the forward dropping action of the Red Eyed Shad trumphs any other brand using a yo-yo retrieve.
  13. I'm hearing tremendous reports about The Rig on Table Rock, but not much about Bull Shoals. I was over there two weeks ago fishing with ghoti., Long Mike and our long time friend and guide, Tim "Hotdawg" Curtis. Dawg said the lake fishing was REAL slow, but we slayed the trout on the river!
  14. You need a rod that loads easily. My suggestion is a spinning rod, 7' MF or MLF and #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid.
  15. It's not just the LFT Live Magic Shad, I haven't had any problems using RI Skinny Dippers, Hollow Belly or Shadalicious. In the middle I have also experimented with a larger Magic Shad, Keitech Swim Impact Fat and flutter spoon. No issues with any of these.
  16. Well, generally speaking you won't necessarily feel a bite until you move the bait and something just feels "different". That's the reason so many fish are gut hooked using this technique.
  17. Hmm... I wish they would tell us about the conditions, how they were fishing and what they were using.
  18. There are other issues, too: #1 is gut hooking the fish. This is VERY common and almost unavoidable, #2 is casting. The longer you leader, the harder it is to cast the C-rig. I think a T-rig is much more suitable for anyone just starting out.
  19. Well, I don't think you can have too much, but I don't think you need 1000 of the same thing. I still have 5 or 10 years worth of GYCB plastics, but hardly fish anything other than Rage Tail and a few different brands of small swimbaits.
  20. By far the best year in history in the Mid South. More double digit bass have been caught the last four months than in the last four decades combined! State records are being broken and the numbers are simply ridiculous. 25-30 lb bags are common in local tournaments. Someone posted a Guntersville catch of 36 lbs! Equally important has been the precipitation. Lots of rain, but no serious flooding. No shad kill this year, either. The girls have all they want to eat and more! On top of all this is the widespread use of The Rig. Still, EVERYTHING old is working. For me that mostly means small swimbaits, jerkbaits and Red Eyed Shad right now. Others are having great luck with the Rage Tail Shad, Smokin' Rooster, Space Monkey and of course, the Craws. I really should be throwing some other stuff and trying a variety of other techniques, but it's hard to change when what your doing is working so well!
  21. The fish are tiny. Both ponds dried up during the drought two years ago. I don't know if they were restocked, but I never fish them.
  22. Outside hooks: #4/0 Gamakatsu Offset Worm Hooks (light wire) The baits do not "helicopter". I guess the lead weight on The Rig is heavy enough to keep this from happening, but I'm not sure. It has never been an issue.
  23. "Some say it is easier to detect bites on a carolina. Is this true?" No, whoever told you that just messed up and got it backwards. Consider both, but start with a Texas Rig simply because it is effective, easier to put together and casts better.
  24. Nice fish, but "somewhat ticked" at a 5 year old? Why didn't YOU check the pic and HELP him take it again? I don't think digital cameras run out of film. p.s. It's a great picture of you! Your nephew "captured the moment".
