Rod, reel choice, looking for opinions
For most guys 6 1/2' or 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action with a fast reel. Mine main rig is an Avid AVC70MF/ Metainium. For heavier spinnerbaits (3/4 oz Ledgebuster), St. Croix EC70MHF/ Calais. 8-)

Hair Jigs for smallies
Memphisballer and I spent all day Saturday fishing nearly every class of artificial lures and no live bait. I expect to catch everything that swims on minnows and shad, but not on crankbaits and jigs! The drum were my specialty last weekend...

Swarming Hornet/ 3 1/2" LFT Live Magic Shad
This was a hit on the Tennessee River. Both green fish and smallies seemed to love it. The key is in the retrieve: Cast and let the lure settle, then reel quickly and let the lure fall back to the bottom on slack line. Repeat until you fell you are "out of the zone". The blade lifts the lure when you reel. If you work the Hornet by pumping your rod, it just moves the bait forward. Reel fast, stop and let the lure sink straight down on slack line. The strike always occurs on the fall, but you won't feel anything until you resume your retrieve. When you feel ANYTHING, set the hook! 8-)

Hair Jigs for smallies
Fished the NorthStar Hairy Jigs on Saturday. Mine are 3/8 oz football heads, black on black and brown on black. Trailers were Rage Tail Baby Craws or Uncle Josh Pork. Didn't catch a monster, but caught a few. 8-)

Well, the exposed hook is an issue on the Tennessee River: If you use 'em, expect to lose 'em. That said, I'll be using and losing this Saturday! Can't wait... ;D ;D ;D

Is One Soft Plastic Brand better than any other?
Hmm... I totally disagree with those who think "they're all the same". Soft plastics vary dramatically. If you don't think there's anything "new", you haven't tried Rage Tail soft plastics or some of MegaStrikes new offerings. 8-)

New reel poll (REVO added), I'm getting a citica
Hmm... Now with Abbadabbadoo added, the Citica is still favored by more than all other listed reels combined. I wonder why? I'll bring you an Abu Garcia STX to try out tomorrow. ;D ;D ;D ;D
